The Akira class will always have a special place in my heart. That ship is just gorgeous. My two main STO captains command Akiras. The U.S.S. Avenger and the U.S.S. Jupiter.

Uss Warspite. Most badass royal navy ship ever. This battlewagon took hit after hit yet kept fighting. Even refusing to be scrapped. Warspite beached herself.

My favorite Star Trek ship! For a long time my main ship in STO was an Akira named USS Endevour. I even have one of the gen 1 hand painted 3d printed models on that one. After years of frontline service she was showing her age and now fills a supporting role with a new Legendary Akira USS Kusanagi. This time I kept with the anime theme.

The Akira class people have long wished to see as a hero ship in its own series. It certainly has the street cred. Fast, powerful, designed to fight, has its own fighter wing. Still does peaceful exploration if possible.

Little story actually, I had an Akira class hero ship in a comic I drew way back in the 90s called the USS Destiny, coincidentally that name showed up in DS9 for the ship that Ezri Dax served on after I drew my comic, so I always pictured that Ezri served on my Akira class USS Destiny.

I love the simple elegance and well thought-out hull plan of the Akira class. I'm also loving all the replies here using Warspite, which is absolutely one of the most badass ship names ever used by the Royal Navy. However, I would choose to honor legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa and his frequent leading man, equally legendary actor Toshirô Mifune, by christening mine the USS Sanjuro in honor of the ruthlessly efficient yet cunning and strategically brilliant mercenary character they brought to life with Kurosawa's direction and Mifune's acting prowess in timeless 1961 classic samurai film "Yojimbo". I'd be honored to take on the Borg or any other threat to the Federation in a ship bearing that name. Maybe her Ship's Colors could be the War Banner from Kurosawa and Mifune's other great classic, "Seven Samurai". Then the Borg would know just what kind of resistance to expect.

It's such a shame we never got a proper showing of the Akira in the shows. Sure it was shown, but it only fought like all the other ships did and couldn't overshadow the hero ship. I'd put up the Akira and its fighters against anything. The fighters give so much versatility in combat and were never used properly while the capacity for a massive torpedo bombardment gives it that big stopping power.

I had this long standing dream for a Voyager fan fiction, where starfleet managed to create an tempoy artificial wormhole to aid the USS Voyager. However, people couldn't survive the transit. Starfleet sends an Akira class unmanned to replace Voyager. Of course some of the crew have an emotional problem with abandoning Voyager for the far superior Akira.

My choices for an Akira Class ship: Andromeda, Apollo or Aquiles. For the record, the name Andromeda has hisoty in space opera. If was the flagship of theEarth Defense Force in Space Battleship Yamato (second series of the original run, and in the reimagined Yamato 2202. Plus, the Kevin Sorbo series in the 90s (?)). Aquiles and Apollo were ships of the same class in Yamato 2202.

I love these, basically heavy destroyers designed purely and only for outright war when Starfleet needs something destroyed completely and utterly, I'd name them something aggressive like the USS Ares or Mars after the Greco/Roman gods of war respectively or something aggressive like the Longsword, or name them after modern day ships bred for war like take the Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyers, names like Defender, Dragon, Dauntless etc

Couldn''t take on a Borg cube alone(First Contact), couldn't take on the protostar alone(Prodigy), in one situation helped the Borg (Picard S2) and in another was taken over by the Borg (Picard S3) but somehow is a Borg killer????

Carriers.... I despise that idea of any Star Trek ship to be a carrier for tiny fighters and stuff like that! The weapon systems in Trek are so advanced the shred any fighter ina microsecond to pieces! There is simply no need for carriers in Trek!

Your thinking is limited, first those ships can carry ordnance enough to destroy a ship , second ad survival isn't a reason against it and your forgetting they have emergency transporter technology, on academy training ships ,, shuttle and runabouts , And if you were fighting the borg they would be a great idea, or in a one vs ne ship battle y launch several dozen of them divided enemy fire and they can inflict massive damage, Several of the were asylum able to disable a cardassion warship , and that was before hey had quantum torpedoes, ,

@@shanenolan5625 TNG Episode "Mission ohne Gedächtnis" clearly showed, that I am right. The Enterprise D annihilated a whole bunch of fighter sized vessels in less than 3 seconds. The whole concept of fighter sized vessels in ST is just obsolete. The only reason why they were introduced during the Dominion War was just because the makers of the series were misguided.

@ralfhtg1056 those ships were made by a civilisation that didn't have warp or shields, , those ships didn't have phasers or torpedoes, , it's a bad example to use and is not conclusive, especially as my example was after that , and federation level technology, , let's not forget the other examples, they were used to great affect in the dominon war , against cardasians and against jem haha fighters , I wonder if you have the same objection t9 run abouts, ?
