Her species is well tuned to temporal issues so things like time travel and alternate timelines wouldn't be unusual at all. Not to mention, they had a level of tech beyond 24th century Federation even at this time.

Jerry Hardin who plays Samuel, Mark Twain, Clemens went on to play the same character on and off for 15 years in a one man show called “Mark Twain: On Man and His World”. Two of the producers on TNG suggested this to him. Apparently opening night the theatre was about 2 thirds full. By the end of the week they were queuing round the block to get in.

Data's sense of smell is also extensively enhanced, he should have smelled Twain that second time (especially during that era of American hygene) at least minimally before the damning discussion arose. Also, Data would have known Guianan's species language and easily communicated that way to wholly prevent this kind of conundrum. To Twain, he would have presumed it as some African dialect. But then, the drama would have been totally altered.@@scottrackley4457

These two episodes makes things interesting for the TNG crew. Now, if they did the season 2 Picard series a bit like this episode it would have went better because that Guinan would have remembered the crew especially Picard from this episode.

It is just called 'Picard', as it has nothing to do with Star Trek, it isn't canon. The fanbase decides what is canon and the fanbase has spoken, 'Picard', 'Discovery', and 'Lower Decks' are the antithesis of Star Trek and do nothing but shit on the lore and slap the fanbase in the face. #WithoutRespectWeReject

I had missed the various references to the allurians (sp?)across the different shows. I remember the guy on deep space nine being referred to by Odo as a allaurian or listener, then Dr Soren referring to it as the nickname of his race. It's clearly an important word as Guinan says outright that she's not done "listening"

An alien race that is from the Delta Quadrant and most likely travelled the stars for millenia will teach such stuff even their school kids. And before you ask, why the Borg were able to overcome them: they fought, that was also the reason Guinan was in the Delta Quadrant in the 23rd century, but lost.

The way Guinan blended into Earth society for so many centuries, makes me wonder if in real life there are aliens blending into Earth society today. I mean given the number of planets in the Milky Way galaxy alone, the math is in favor of life beyond Earth and if so, some of them could have the ability to blend into our society and study us without us ever knowing.

The only plot hole I can find in this episode: Data would have realized that Guinan wouldn't know who he is. He would have realized it immediately.

Seems weird that 1. Guinan wouldn’t have remembered Data from the past, as she did Picard and 2. She’s an El-Aurian so she shouldn’t be surprised to hear about spacefaring alternate species from the future

Nah. "Mark Twain" is terminology used on steam boats on the Mississippi. They would have to measure the depth of the water, to make sure they didn't run aground. And they would call out the depths. Twain is the number two. And they would "mark" the depths of the water. Mark twain would be the measure of two fathoms. He took it as a pen name when he worked for newspapers in Nevada, after having worked on steam boats himself.

well the majority didn't agree w/you bc after his role in this episode the actor who played clemens went on to play the role elsewhere for the next decade and he was very popular

Pure bunk. The primary implication of time travel is being in two places at once, which is an obvious impossibility.
