When you are a scientific observer, always provide the observation and algorithm used that led to a probable conclusion. Often enough, people end up with the wrong conclusions if they missed part of an observation, for example: the technological level of the inhabitants. (Low suspected as based on Wesley's conclusion that a planet not listed as populated would always be low technology and not a new (illegal) colony ... this information isn't provided in this vid...) Also, referencing to the algorithm makes it easier to compensate if it gets outdated. Although, the algorithm used that led to the conclusion "campfire" in this vid would probably be referred to as "common sense" or standard starfleet manual information.

It's actually *NOT* what Data said 🙊 Campfires, after all, are _intentional_ "small areas of thermal radiation and CO2 emissions." Like, ask yourself: would it be possible to have those things _without_ it being campfires? I can come up with a few other options.... But, if the absolute worst that a ground team might encounter would be the great tragedy of marshmallows melting off their sticks and dropping into the fire, then saying "campfires" _actually does_ add extra/useful information.
@MrNicoJac Жыл бұрын
Like, if you dropped a phosphorus bomb (or one with cluster munitions), or there was a massive wildfire nearby whose winds sucked up small burning branches and dropped them a couple of miles downwind, then you'd have the same phenomena. (the life forms being either soldiers or firefighters) And, on the scanners, you would presumably be able to tell these options apart, further.
