Thanks for showing this. This is the best Star Trek I've seen since 1996! The man with the silver eyes at the beginning is Lieutenant Commander Gary Mitchell played by Gary Lockwood in the third episode of Star Trek called "Where no man has gone before". In that episode he became the most powerful man in the universe and Kirk had to fight him. McCoy said, " Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely!". Great episode. Mitchell is looking into Kirk's future which is what this is all about. Very clever connection to the original series.

I saw Robin Curtis (Lt. Saavik Star Trek III The Search for Spock and ST IV The Voyage Home) who played the older version of Saavik here that in the script of Voyage Home it stated that after Spock's Ponn Faar they shared in ST III that she became pregnant with Spock's child and this indeed is their Son. Robin became emotional with the realization that her character of Saavik had a long healthy life and had raised a son. This year marks 40 years since Search for Spock was released in theaters and ties off her character arc quite nicely. William Shatner stood in as himself and they used AI and CGI to make him look as he did in all 3 past time frames. Also it is 30 years since ST Generations this year too and Gary Lockwood who played Gary Mitchell in Where No Man has Gone Before and is in his 80s reprised the role to stand in for Gary also. You will notice the camera focused on a table with a drink but also a compact case next to it. That case was held by Zachary Quinto as Spock in ST Beyond and when opened had the full bridge crew publicity pic from ST V The Final Frontier that older Spock had in his possession and gave to his younger self before passing on. This will most likely be one of the last times we see William Shatner himself although anti-aged playing Captain Kirk and we are so blessed he did this for all of us as he is in his 90s now but still looking great for his age and has all his mental faculties intact. Thank you William Shatner, we have and always will love you as Captain Kirk.
@thomasnieswandt8805Ай бұрын
To get Gary Lockwood back, would have been awesome. To get Robin Curtis back, would have been awesome. To get William Shatner back would have been impossible and awesome, for any ST production over the last 20 years. To get them ALL in one Film together , Gary after (nearly) 60 years reprising his role, Robin after 40 and Bill after 30 ....thats such a huge moment in cinematic history, not only ST but cinema itself

We're grateful for the decades of wonderful performances you gave us all.

The subtlety of the acting is what really sells this. Kirk's mannerisms and how they are different yet totally accurate for each stage of his life. Spock on his deathbed on New Vulcan struggling to breathe and still giving that faint eyebrow raise. Wow! This whole 765874 project has been amazing - Memory Wall, Regeneration, and now Unification. Lots of inside Trek here. JM Colt and her time journey and her mind meld with Spock showing him the future in Memory Wall. the aftermath of Generations and Spock haunted by these future visions shared with him by Colt in Regeneration. And now Gary Mitchell in his omnipotence knowing Kirk is crossing over, Saavik and Spock's son from Vulcan's Heart, and Commander Yor from Discovery somehow getting Kirk to cross to the Kelvin timeline from the prime timeline in Unification. Super cool stuff. If you haven't seen Memory Wall or Regeneration - you need to watch all three now in order.

Wonderful comment. The lack of dialogue threw me, as I was missing some context. I was thinking that somehow Gary had shunted Kirk to New Vulcan so that he and Spock could be together as Spock passed away. But is Kirk dying too???? Who are all those people in the meadow? (I do recognize Saavik), and I assumed the man near her was Spock's son, but are they dead? Alive? This bit confuses me.

The majority of people that have had NDE's say in the afterlife, there are no spoken words verbally, only telepathic communication.I believe that this is what is what they are attempting to convey here. The body language, eye movement, etc will intuitively tell you everything that they are saying (communicating) to each other. It's a spiritual language which only the soul can feel, see and hear. Beautifully done.

I showed my 83 year old mom, who introduced me to TOS when I was a kid and I could tell she got a little choked up. As we both agreed, no words were needed. The reason I enjoy TOS, and to some degree TNG and the new take on the TOS characters so much is because of the depth of the characters, their friendships and connection to one another. It's the quiet moments they have, the dialogue, not all the glitz of the battles that make Star Trek. TOS was known for tackling tough subjects, and how we look at life & death. I loved this short film as it gave fans a better send off for both of them, one they deserved. Although I admit, I had trouble determining if Kirk was alive or not...guessing he was "regenerated." Although I think another take could've been cool if all those unknown people with Savvik & the son could've been CGI / AI versions of all the rest of the TOS crew, Bones, Scotty, etc, his son David, etc. It would've been neat to see Kirk acknowledge all his old friends before he goes to Spock to be with him at the end. Altogether very touching and fitting. I loved seeing the younger Kirks in the time transition section...the facial expressions were so spot on! Oh, and the music was perfect...really brought on all the feels!

If you haven't already, then go watch Star Trek Continues... if you want to see genuine heartfelt Star Trek. Much, if not all of this reminds me of how many people describe their near death experiences. They describe a profound all encompassing love beyond anything we experience in this earthly life. Virtually all say that no words needed to be spoken, communication was telepathic instant knowing and understanding. Everyone I've ever heard said the following, "I immediately knew I was home" and "our language simply cannot adequately describe the beauty of heaven". I don't know if this is what they were going for or whether it just happened that way because somewhere deep down, buried in a place we cannot consciously reach while we are here, exists a profound truth of who and what we really are, eternal and infinitely loved.

Star Trek Picard. Kirk's body at the Daystrom Space Station being experimented on by Section 31. Project Phoenix. While in a stasis chamber there are life signs. Fast forward to this, Gary Mitchell kirks' friend is a man who gained god like abilities. Is hanging out in the Ether. Gary decides to fully resurrect his friend Kirk. Somehow someway people instrumental to Kirk and Spock are brought together. Yor the time soldier gives Kirk the ability to cross time and space to be with his Friend his brother in spirit before he passes on. This wasnt something in the Nexus. Gary Mitchell actually brought Kirk back. Kirk goes thru the Memory wall. And sees aspects of himself at different points in time. Not even time and space could keep them separated. This was simply closure for 2 friends. Terry Matalas said he included Kirk in season 3 that future writers might be able to bring kirk back. Star Trek OTOY did that.
