People who didn’t realize this didn’t understand the point of the prequels. The council sucked at their jobs and allowed palpatine to take anakin and turn to the dark side. Qui Gon was the only one who understood this kind of stuff and Yoda/Obi Wan didn’t realize it until it was too late

Qui Gonn was trained by Dooku, he was aware of the reality of where the Jedi were headed. He isn't like other Jedi because he is closer to the middle, qrather than the dark or the light, and will do whatever he thinks is right despite what the Council says.

Think about Duel of the Fates. There’s a reason it’s called that. Qui-Gon is not only the wisest and most open minded but one of the best Jedi to ever exist. He was the one that rediscovered the secret of becoming a Force ghost, and shared his knowledge with both Yoda and Obi Wan, but most importantly he would have been the only person to prevent Anakin from becoming Darth Vader had he won that fight against Maul. Hence its name. Qui Gon could’ve single handedly saved the Jedi and prevented the rise of the Sith and the Empire.

@@KingAsa5 how is it corny when it relies less on dialogue and more on action and pacing? If you actually like the 2008 show then it makes sense, you have terrible taste. That show is corny, adds in unnecessary retcons, makes bad decisions which contradicts the plot of ep3. Takes liberties where it shouldn't, and expands on things that have no consequential value to the succeeding episode. It is just a kids show with cheap animation, it was never amazing nor deep but kiddy fans lapped it up because they're suckers for pretentious hack writing. The 2003 show actually respected the characters, didn't impose at all on the narrative nor did it attempt at retconning anything. It was a seemless transition between ep2 to 3 with a great arch for Anakin. I honeslty can't believe you would say I've got it the other way around. The fact anyone would prefer the incoherent mess of the 2008 show over the 2003 version makes me scratch my head in disbelief. But it does appear to be the case that people prefer surface level things that try to appear deeper than they are.

As always Rob on point. Qui Gon is the OG and the GOAT. In one movie he had more of a character than the entire cast of the sequels. The quintessential masculine character. True father figure to Anakin, true mentor to Obi Wan and the truest of all Jedi. Very underappreciated character. And on Jar Jar, he isnt worse or better than any of the other comedic relief character. The culture around his character should be example number one for the phenomenon of herd effect and people being sheep. They hate him cause its the norm. They know they have to hate the character before they even watch the movie for the first time. I never even bothered with the character enough to be annoyed by him. Cant wait to watch all your reactions to the OG 6.

FUN FACT: changes were to the original trilogy. These prequels haven't been touched. You have to realize that Star Wars was breakthrough technology at the time. Lucas created Industrial Light and Magic, a company to do state-of-the-art special effects. The reason Lucas waited until the last 90's to film the prequels was because that was the soonest he felt the effects caught up to what he wanted to have in a film. Just like in the late 70's he had to push special effects to the limit of the time. The prequels have been up resolution for 4k, but they have not been updated at all. It really looked this good when I saw it in the theaters in late high-school.

another reason darth maul seems so OP is because he was played in the movie by martial arts master Ray Park, that dude is a weapons legend. the vader swordsman from the first trilogy was an olympic fencer at the time thats why theres such a contrast in saber fighting styles on screen but its not even arguable that vader has stronger force powers BY FAR. maul has the better design tho

While most force users couldn't breathe underwater (sea-dwelling species such as the Mon-Calamari and Nautolan exempted), there was a force technique that would allow one to hold their breath for ridiculous lengths of time. It's called Breath Control, and you can kinda see Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan using it at the beginning of the film when the gas starts streaming into the room! It also shows up in KotOR 2.

Interesting fact that Darth Maul isn't a fully dedicated Sith. He's more of a Mercenary Jedi under the employ of the emperor. For Maul, this is just another job.

I remember when these first 3 movies came out people were trashing them. Like my two uncles, big original star wars fans, completely hated this movie. Felt it was flashy with no substance. They Hated Darth Maul because he wasn't a talker like Vader was. Me personally I was never a Starwars fans, so this movie when I was a Kid was fire, then I watched the original and I fell in love with the movies.

I might be wrong but i dont think this was remastered. Lucas - starting with ep 4 pushed the boundaries of special effects and is a huge reason of why we have what we have today. You should watch the extras after the movies.

If you guys watch the star wars rebels episode titled THE TWO SUNS where Darth Maul and Obi-Wan have their final confrontation. You'll see Obi-Wan use Qui-Gon's battle stand and Maul tries to use the same kill move to Obi-Wan that he succeeded against Qui-Gon.
