Only after a couple of viewings and reading the novelization did it occur to me that Yoda may be strong enough in the force to prolong his life for a time. It could even be what he hinted at by responding to "You can't die" with "Strong am I with the force - but not *that* strong." I think now he was using the force to hold himself together just long enough to see Luke one last time, knowing Luke was going to come back.

I always assumed she was talking about her adoptive mother (i.e. Jimmy Smits' wife), and that Luke either didn't know the moms in question were two different people or didn't care, since he always knew his caretakers were his aunt and uncle and therefore never had any actual "motherly" memories like most kids.

I'm more concerned when 3PO says: "Lando Calrissian and poor Chewbacca never returned from this awful place," and yet the wookie arrives after the droid. Maybe 3PO should've just said: "Lando Calrissian never returned from this awful place."

It's wholly because of the fan base and the Expanded Universe, which expanded the character exponentially to turn a handful-of-lines throwaway character into one who was being touted as having his own film. That's the power of good storytelling....
