One of the comments you made reminded me of the movie "Speed". That is a movie you should watch also. People will tell you different orders to watch these films. I suggest that you watch them in the order of theatrical release, that is IV, V, VI, I, II, III.

I would definitely recommend watching Star Wars parts 4,5,6 and then 1,2,3. Some people recommend the "machete" order (4,5,1,2,3,6) but in my experience it breaks up the flow too much as the movies were made in very different times and with different styles.

The reactions of others who went Machete Order are solid evidence that it enhances the viewing experience and makes the reactions so much better, AND make Episode 6 a lot more emotional a film. Plus it solves the problem created by the Special Edition changes, and it retains the finality of Episode 6. That movie was intended to be the grand finale of the Saga, and the Machete Order allows it to keep that position, and serve as an even better finale, due to now having seen the Prequels too.

From the reactors I have seen do the machete order, one of their main issues afterwards was that 1 was such a jarring change from 4 & 5, and then 6 was such a different style from 1,2,3. I just feel that the machete order is better for rewatching instead of the first time through.

For the '77 release, yes. But they changed the movie countless times over the years, starting as early as 1980 (at least). In the '90s they used CGI, too. E.g. they replaced Jabba who was played by a human actor with the CGI animated slug modeled after the character from _Return of the Jedi_

It was one of several scenes cut from the final because at the time, they couldn't get a satisfactory effect for Jabba. The scene where she remarks about software (the chess game) was all stop-motion animation and in-camera FX. No CGI whatsoever.

@@3dartstudio007 Room-sized computers is more of a late '50's - early '70's think. IBM's 4004 was released in 1971, The aAtari 2600 was released in 1977 (the year "Star Wars" came out), and by 1980, PCs were affordable for the middle class to upper middle-class in America.

“I wonder what software they are using in the 70s?” None. There was no software nor personal computers. They built very rudimentary computers to handle camera movements but all other special effects were done using stop motion, matte paintings and other film (actual film) illusions like blue screens. Most of the modern effects we see today all started because of this one movie and the company that was founded for this movie: Industrial Light and Magic (ILM)

That said, updated visual effects using CGI have been added to the film over the years. But what they were able to accomplish with 70s technology was mind-blowing for people at the time.

Games for the Ages and funny enough the updated CGI doesn’t hold up as well. The SFX that they accomplished in this movie changed Hollywood forever and we have to thank Lucas for opening up his effects company to all of Hollywood. We wouldn’t have movies like Avengers today if not for this film. ...plus the word “blockbuster” 🤪

and considering that the entire making of the movie, including everyone's pay, was made for only $10 million. even back in the 70's that was considered low budget, and with that 10 mil, George Lucas changed film making forever. This was George's attempt to thumb his nose to the "Corporate" film makers as this was independently done. 20th Century Fox was only the distributor for the movie. and, no one took it seriously until it was released to audiences, then the "corporate" film makers took notice.

Just incase you didnt know "A Long Time Ago In A Galaxy Far, Far Away..." is a play on the phrase "Once Upon A Time in a Land Far, Far away..." Star Wars is Space Fairytail. George Lucas intented it that way. There are wizards and Magic, a boy becoming the hero, and the beautiful princess ready to be saved, along with some friends to help the hero.

Just to point out. Leia had her planet destroyed in front of her eyes, had been tortured and imprisoned. And then a storm trooper comes into her cell, and her first instinct is to mock/sass him. She then proceeds to take charge of her own rescue, which is starting to go hellishly wrong. Shes a bonafide badass and i love it.

I watched it during the last weekend of the original film run in the summer of 1978. Think of that: a movie having a theatrical run of over 1 year which you will never see today. Everything about the movie from the text crawl to the opening sequence of the seeing the bottom of the star destroyer to the final battle sequence was amazing. Granted, I was 9 and it was the very first movie I had ever seen in the theaters, but it was nothing compared to anything I had ever seen on tv or movies on tv. I've watched a lot of old movies made before Episode IV, and even if I had watched thousands of movies beforehand, I think I would have still been left in awe.

I watched the original Star Wars (A New Hope) when I was 6 and it first came out. My mother took us to the drive in and laid us on a blanket on the ground. She put the speakers near our heads and we watched it unfold above us "in space". It was like watching the ships right overhead. I've been hooked ever since.

Look forward to more :) My personal advice for viewing order for a first time viewing would be in the same order as they were released in cinemas (Theatrical Release Order). Reason being that the original filmmakers made storytelling decisions for each new film based on the previous film released, and so you won't get unintended spoilers or accidental reveals, and there isn't a big jump in visual style. It does mean large time jumps in the Star Wars universe between each trilogy, but that's only confusing for younger kids. Also don't read IMDB/other reviews before watching the other films - too many spoilers! You start with the Original Trilogy (OT), then go to the Prequel Trilogy (PT), and end with the latest Sequel Trilogy (ST) [There are two other non-mainline Star Wars movies (Rogue One & Solo), which fill in backstories, but aren't necessary, and can be watched anytime] Theatrical Release Order Episode IV: A New Hope (1977) Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi (1983) Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015) Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017) Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) At the time, people had to wait 3 years between each film in a trilogy, and there was no home computers, no internet, no smart phones, tiny low resolution TVs, few multiplexes with multiple big screens, so very limited entertainment compared to today. Going out to the cinema was more of a special family treat, and after the first Star Wars film, each new episode was a much anticipated HUGE event!

You've made a lot of older SW fans happy doing this saga! First time I saw this was with my family in our station wagon at a drive-in movie theater the year after it came out; I was about 4 years old. I just remember the opening firefight on the rebel ship, and then hiding under my father's old Navy blanket when Darth Vader came on the screen. (obviously I'm over that fear now). Of course the sweeter story was when my dad took my two older brothers to the theater to see it when it came out (they were 6 and 5 years old, respectively); and the 5 year old, upon seeing the "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away..." text, stood up and began to read it and the opening crawl out loud for all the theater to hear ( you know: in case there were blind audience members that day :-) ).

@@firstenforemost The Special Editions AS THEY ARE NOW are after the prequels, how else would you explain Hayden Christensen in VI? The Extended Machete Order, aka, the Flashback Order gives the best reactions. By far. Watching Despecialized Edition? sure, go chronologically. Watching the Special Editions? Go Machete order. it is a much more compelling sequence of reveals, and tells the overall story better. This order improves VI (The weakest of the OT) and not knowing the conclusion improves the Prequels by far.

The machete order is all about improving the prequels at the expense of the the original trilogy, which is the heart of the franchise. I was 6 years old when this came out. I remember waiting in line with my dad. (This movie invented movie lines that wrapped around the block) I still remember audience reactions, I remember seeing that giant ship filling the screen at the beginning. The blue milk, Luke's speeder.. It all looked and felt so real. It all blew my little kid brain. It was instantly the coolest thing that ever existed and I NEEDED more. Anything with a Star wars image stopped me in my tracks. Every friend got the toys. I had a lunch box and sheets. 3 years between movies then. No internet rumor machine. It is actually pronounced Princess Lay-uh Throughout the series sometimes people pronounce it Lee-uh, but that's not right.

Right there with ya Shawn. (same age too in fact. 6 or 7) Heck, I've even been getting Star Wars themed Christmas gifts up until 2-4 years ago! Sadly, it was SO popular, that the ONLY show my parents & I could get into was the 9pm showing. (past my bedtime) So I fell asleep partway through the movie. :( But even THAT didn't diminish my (obsessive) love of Star Wars! :)

Disagree. Release Order doesn't work for Special Editions. Machete Order of 4,5,1,2,3,6 works a lot better, and is the best compromise between release order and George's intended chronological.

There are 2 ways to really watch these films correctly 1) chronological: 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, Rogue One. This method is to see them as audiences experienced them. 2) the "machete cut" (it maximizes the twists): 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6, Rogue One. Lots of people get first time shocks if they view it this way. Dont watch 7, 8, 9. They're horrible, disrespect of the characters, and the films are manic due to two waring directors (film 8 spits on everything 7 set up, 9 spits on 8 for spitting on 7).

It's what makes the entire Star Wars franchise great to all of us who grew up watching it. The so-called "Machete" Order gives away too many secrets too early. It becomes confusing to someone watching it for the first time. Whenever I see someone watching the saga in Machete Order, I don't watch anymore of their videos. Star Wars was presented in a saga of 3 different trilogies - each meant to be watched in that sequence. The original sequencing of movies made Star Wars great. That is why most true Star Wars enthusiasts recommend to view them in the original order of release. That is 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9. It gives the full effect of the generational experience.

The problem with those who don't like the new trilogy is the fact that they don't like change and they haven't watched any of the expanded universe (The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, Resistance, etc). Episode 8 was a decent bridge between Episodes 7 and 9 to those of us who actually understand the significance of what is occurring. That will be revealed in time as many people begin to appreciate Episode 8 more. Remember, the original trilogy was released with a 3-year gap in between each movie. The same 3-year gap existed between each prequel movie. There was only 2 years separating each of the movies in the sequel trilogy. The new sequel trilogy is marred by all of the opinionated views of out-of-touch fans on KZbin, something that wasn't an element with the original and prequel trilogies. Give it some time to absorb the information. Only then will you understand the true grandeur of Star Wars. I will always suggest the original order of release for the Star Wars Saga. Rogue One and Solo can be watched upon the completion of the entire saga of 9 movies. If you're a film person, you may be interested in "The Hidden Fortress", a Japanese samurai movie that inspired some of the plot and several of the characters of this. Also "The Dam Busters" a WW2 movie about a real-life raid to blow up a dam in order to slow down the Nazi's progress on the atom bomb (which kind of correlates to the Death Star). See, they had to land the bomb ju-u-u-ust right or it would just impact on the surface instead of...you get the idea. And you should react to "Hardware Wars", a short fan-made film that came out just a year after this one. There are several versions of it here on KZbin.

This film isn't exactly based on anything specific but George Lucas drew a lot of inspiration from Akira Kurosawa and especially his film 'The Hidden Fortress' (1958) and also from the old 1930s 'Flash Gordon' film serials.

I saw the first film in 1977, while I was in high school. Me and two friends skipped classes so we could see the matinee, then stayed for the second as well. When the death star exploded, the audience literally gave a standing ovation, the only time I've ever seen that during a film.

For the love of god, PLEASE just watch these in release order. Some people will tell you to watch the prequels in between Eps.5 and 6, but that will spoil some plot twists in the next film. The two trilogies have their own style and feel and interrupting the original trilogy with a 7 hour flashback is really disruptive. I think it's best to get the same experience the rest of the world did as these were released. It's great to see a director's style change over time as well as the state of special effects technology. Great art should always be experienced as closely as possible to how the artist intends, not how some fan boys want. Just go by the year of release.

@@pseudonymousbeing987 We still use "old film" terms in digital filmmaking - for example in editing software, folders are still called "bins" in regards to how you used to have physical bins to organized different batches of film. So with that in mind, in compositing, we have different blending operations when combining images - for holographic looks, it's usually "additive" or "screen". I'm assuming they followed a physical process along the same mentality of how we currently do it digitally -- "screen" in particular works by projecting the image to the one below it and bypassing everything black. So I would think they did the claymation against black, and then somehow did a physical "screen" operation. Just guessing though!

@@KitsyX Part of the reason of the janky stuff is that the frame rates are all different from film, to VHS, to Laser Disc, to other digital formats as well. Trying to get a smooth copy with no loss or blurring of image, or degradation of smooth movement is near impossible. I saw something some time ago about the difficulties a fan who decided to cut together his own clean copy of the original, was going through. And, Han shot first.

Getting Despecialized isn't an easy process and the simple search for it puts them at risk of encountering spoilers. It is a testament to these films that they are 50 years old now and people are still getting engaged in them. The characters feel real and you can quickly figure out what each one is about, the storytelling is very easy to follow (it's a straight up Hero's Journey, but there's a reason that story format has lasted for centuries), the effects while groundbreaking for the period did not try to overextend themselves and thus hold up really well, and while this wasn't the first sci fi movie, it was a gamechanger for cinema in terms of how sci fi stories were viewed by the general public

I saw the film as a 5 yr old in 77'. It really was unlike anything in cinema. Just a sea of people trying to get into a movie house. Sci-Fi films had never had such effects. It was jaw dropping, stunning and amazing. You left completely assaulted by your senses and full of excitement that you wanted to rewatch it right away. The only movie experience comparable to me was 1989 Tim Burton's BATMAN.

This version of the movie is the Special Edition re-Released in 1995. with some updated graphics and scenes. In the original the Jabba scene is not in there but in the SE they reinserted old unused footage of a stand for Jabba as Han is talking to he walks around the sand in. When the CGI Jabba was inserted they had to make it look like Han stepped on his tail. There is a wolfman that is removed from the SE and replace with another alien. In the Original (1977) Han shot first and Greedo never did. I can go on and on but you can look it up if you haven't already. Thanks Mary

I've been scrolling through the comments and I'm kind of surprised by the lack of comments about people say to NOT watch certain movies, but I'm sure there will be plenty eventually. My opinion is to just watch a movie and judge for yourself. Some people are just very hateful and if they didn't like something they try to make others not watch it. Also, I've noticed a few already have suggested the Machete Order of the films. I'm going to put one more vote in for watching it in release order. The perks of watching in the strange order just don't seem to overpower the way it was supposed to be seen. I won't be super upset if you choose the other way but I don't suggest it.

The problem is release order isn't the intended order. The Special Editions (and the damn Episode number titles) prove that. The intended order was chronological, but of course that has problems due to spoiling things from 4 and 5. So the Machete Order is the best order, as it's a compromise, allowing George's intentions to be retained in the ways important. In fact, the very first draft for the first movie was subtitled "Episode 1: The Star Wars", not "Episode 4: A New Nope" which wasn't even added to the opening crawl until a few years after the movie's theatrical release. For the first two decades of Star Wars's existence, release order was the intended order because they were the only movies, THE Star Wars trilogy, which all Star Wars fans like but only some like the prequels.

The making of prequel trilogy post-dated the original trilogy by a decade-and-a-half, and the prequel trilogy was written in a context where one could assume that the audience had seen the originals. Before the prequel trilogy came out, the "special edition" original trilogy was re-released in theatres to catch people up. Heck, Star Wars wasn't even planned as a trilogy. The "Episode IV: A New Hope" subtitle was added a couple years after the debut release. The trilogy only became one after Star Wars saw massive success at the box office, and Lucas set his sights on telling a grander story than Kurosawa meets Flash Gordon.

The best way to watch it is by release order, as there are elements both story and impact of effect that would otherwise be spoiled. As it is, some of the effect of the massive scale being a new thing is belittled by much more recent movies that have done so well with, what StarWars has pioneered. Lucas made StarWars not knowing if he'd ever make the whole story, so he took the heart of the story and started there. It is said that he had 12 episodes. By the time Empire Strikes Back came out, the word was that it was refined and there were 9 episodes (a trilogy of trilogies, when it seemed everything was being made in to a trilogy of some sort). During the period of producing the prequels, Lucas tried to deny he said anything about there being any more than the first 6 episodes. (I guess he didn't want to have to weather the burden of responsibility to finish the full run, or the slings and arrows of some fans that would never be pleased, as he was getting on in years) He had fallen on some dark times with the fans when he refused to release the original three movies on digital format in their original theatrical release form. Plus he was taking some heat as the prequels had also developed a split in the fandom, and as social media became more of a thing, he had to admit there were more episodes and he eventually sold to Di$ney. Di$ney is a whole different story that united many original and prequel trilogy fans and created a greater rift in the fandom, but as I said, a different story.

In my own opinion, NOTHING will beat the original trilogy to me, but I still liked the other movies just fine. Solo probably is my least favorite one but that's not to say I didn't enjoy that one as well. The franchise is not "ruined" because plenty of people are still dying for more Star Wars content. People said The Matrix was ruined because they didn't care for the 2nd and especially 3rd movies, yet there is a lot of hype surrounding a 4th Matrix movie in the works.

@@athens_1psvr31 It all depends on what kind of person you are, and how you watch a certain movie/genre. If you love and care about World building, continuity, common sense in which characters act matching the world they are in, following the rules of the created world from past movies, etc, you are most likely gonna hate the sequels because you can't stop thinking of how stupid scene x is, how scene or dialoge z makes no sense and it ripps you out of the movie and experience. If you don't care or don't think about the above mentioned parts, and you are able to simply enjoy the special effects festival and flashy scenes which looks really good, you are gonna have an amazing time. Just don't think about it to much is the key to these movies. For me it was the same with the prequels, i really liked them back then when they aired, even after i grew up for years watching the original Triology on VHS mulitple times every year. And i still like the prequels today, Episode 3 is my favority star wars Movie. But today i can see the flaws and sometimes world/continuity breaking scenes these movies had and can understand how someone who realises these flaws while watching them, lessens their enjoyment. I am still able to overlook the flaws and simply enjoy the prequels. I am also able to overlook a lot in Episode 7 and enjoy it most of the time, there were some great moments and some dumb moments, but it was mostly fun. Episode 8 and 9 feel like i get kicked in the nuts every few minutes and it just hurts watching these movies and how they sacrifice everything i mentioned in my second sentence, for special effects and flashy stuff and cheap Nostalgia emotions/references. So specialy people who are quite new to a franchise, and are not so deep into the lore and world, are more easily able to overlook the flaws of a movie and simply enjoy it, without thinking about the meaning, logic or deeper stuff. I wish a would be able to simply enjoy them and have a good time, it's so much more fun this way. I am sorry for the long post, just felt like writing my opinion to it and hope no one is offended by it.

Merry had a dagger that he found in the Barrow Downs on their journey to Bree (which was not in the movie) that was forged in Numenor, or "Westernesse" for the purpose of fighting evil. His strike is what made the Witch King vulnerable. The famous lines that so many love are only in the movie, and wasn't Tolkien's writing. That came from Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

I would highly recommend watching the series in theatrical release order. The prequels are more enjoyable once you have the full context of the original trilogy. Although the story connects, the films themselves are very different in terms of pacing, so to just skip around usually throws people off. I think it is best to appreciate each trilogy as they are.

When you said about seeing this on the big screen back in the 70's it brought back my first experience with the movie. I was 15 back in 1977 and my older brother came home for Arizona where he was going to a trade school. He was all hyped up and said you got to see this movie. It is amazing. I got all excited and asked which one are you talking about. He said, "Star Wars." Well immediatly my excitement faded cause I had seen the trailors and it didn't look good to me at all. I said naaa it's ok. He said, "oh no, your going to see this movie. I know you will love it." I said no thanks again because I didn't care to see it plus the lines were huge. Stretching a half a mile. He grabbed me by my shirt collar and said, "Your going to see this movie." Standing in line for 2 hours and the whole time complaining about it. The whole time my brother kept smiling and saying, "Just wait, calm down." Then he said " How about we make a bet?" Then he said, "If you don't like the movie, I will give you $40." Well $40 back in 1977 for a 15 year old was a lot of money. Knowing I wouldn't like the movie I quickly agreed. Not worrying about what I would have to do if I liked the movie. So finally we got seated and waited more time. Then the lights went off and the movie began. I thought the way the movie started with the script rolling up the screen was pretty cool then the music got real calm. Obviously in space and near some planet. Then the rebel ship flies by and it is obviously being shot at it. Then, it happened. The theater began to rumble. The sound was so loud I swear I could feel this huge ship like I was standing right next to it. Then as it appeared on the big screen and started to fill up the whole screen. I just sat there, my eyes as wide as the screen was. My mouth dropped open and that was it. I was hooked from that point on. I heard my brother laugh and say, "I told you." What he didn't know was he unleashed one of the biggest Star Wars fans ever. When Empire came out, nobody had a clue that the most epic line spoken in any movie ever would come from this movie. No, I am your father. Of course everybody knew about it by the 3rd showing and definitely by that evening. All the news channels had it covered. So most people weren't so surprised when they saw it in the movie. That is unless you were able to see the first 2 showings of the movie. Those few lucky people got to feel the shock of their life time. I was one of those lucky people being at the second showing. I experienced something I have never felt before or after. When Darth Vadar said, No, I am your father. Everybody at the same time as if it came from just one mind all said together and loudly, "WHATTTTTTT???" Everybody had the same, open wide eyes and mouth on their faces and then the most amazing part of it. Right along with Luke on the screen, we all yelled, "Nooooooooooooooooooooooo." Like I said, it was like all of us had the exact same feeling and thoughts and out came the exact same words as if it all came from the same mouth. These theaters were packed too. We have all had different experiences watching movies in theaters but this one was so very different. All those people saying the same thing at the same time not once but twice. Like I said the second one we all said the same thing at the same time as Luke did on the screen. The 3 loudest uproars I have ever heard in a movie theater was during Star Wars movies. First one was when Darth Vadar picked up Sidious and threw him into the reactor in episode VI. The crowd blew the roof off the theater. The second one was when the Captain of Padme guard was asked what the droids number was who just saved the ship in Episode I. When he said, "R2D2" the crowd exploded. Then probably the loudest was in Episode II when Yoda opened the side of his robe and his lightsaber flew to his hand. Oh my God the crowd started screaming and everybody jumped to their feet like they were at the World Series and the home team just won game 7 in the bottom of the 9th inning. We were about to see Mr. Bad Ass jedi master himself fight with a lightsaber. Some very amazing times to witness and experience. Talk about getting jacked up!!!!!!!!

Hi Mary! Great to see you enjoying Star Wars! I've been a life-long fan myself, in fact I was 12 years old when Star Wars (it wasn't called A New Hope back then as Lucas didn't know he would be making more) came out and I was in the first audience to see the film when it came to my town. If you COULD time travel back to that time, I'm sure you'd be like so many of us who were BLOWN AWAY right from the start of the movie. Imagine seeing that Star Destroyer flying over your head, only on a HUGE PANORAMIC SCREEN. Our eyes widened and our jaws hit the floor as it flew overhead, never seeming to end. My brother, sister and I went back to see the movie well over 25 times that summer and we still love it to this day. BTW... The version you watched isn't the same as the version that played in theaters back in the day. Although it's MOSTLY the same, there was a lot of CGI added and sound effects changed in the late 90s, when the original trilogy was re-released. Oh... and in the Cantina scene when Han kills the Bounty Hunter (Greedo), HAN SHOT FIRST! Enjoy the rest of the movies!

Please watch them in Machete Order. Almost all reactors watches them in release order. It would be nice if you don't go the traditional route and watch them in this unique way that I and many others feel improves the story telling.

No one seems to want to warn her that doing that ruins one of the major twists from Return of the Jedi. If you want to watch it that way the next time through, that's different, but for the first viewing, watch the films in the order they were made.

1977 . I was 7 years old. From birthday parties to going out with family and friends, I think I saw this movie in theaters 4 times. And I remember seeing the remastered version in 1997 with my adult friends. We all got to re-live our childhood.

Fun reaction! The effects were mostly stop-motion animation, paintings, miniatures, models, makeup, costumes and camera tricks. It was mind-blowing back in the day. The version that you watched had CGI added to it (like those dinosaur creatures the Storm Troopers were riding in the desert). :) Looking forward to seeing the rest of your reactions!

Of course Chronological has problems due to spoiling things, so the Machete Order was made as the best compromise and every reactor who's gone this order has had a much better experience and reaction.

Disagree on Rogue One before Episode 6, its famous *hallway* scene really damages the story told in Episode 6. It's better to go from 3 to 6 because 3 serves as the introduction of that concept then 6 pays it off.

Glad you enjoyed it! I grew up with the original Star Wars trilogy in the 80s/90s and watched the prequel trilogy in cinema's in my late teens. Love it! Enjoy watching episode 5 and 6. You can also opt for the machete order which is episode 4, 5 and after that watch episode 1, 2 and 3... and after that as the finale watch episode 6. The release order is great too... it's how I experienced it. :)

Mary, This is only the second video of yours that I've watched. The first was your reaction to Dogma. I actually came to your channel hoping I would find a View Askewniverse playlist. I didn't find one but I'm still new here. I was 5 years old when Star Wars was first released. I don't remember seeing commercials for the movie. I remember seeing the massive lines in front of theaters on the news. At 5, all I needed was peer pressure. Why are all of these people standing in line to see a movie? I must see it too! For me that meant getting dad to drive us for an hour to get to the city where it was playing. That didn't happen often. In the theater I was blown away. I had never seen anything like Star Wars. I had never stayed awake for an entire movie before. I was also at the age where fantasy wasn't that far from reality. It was so easy for me back then to become emotionally invested in the peril of the characters on the screen. The movie became the standard by which all future movies would be judged. I've been passionate about many movies, but none of them have topped what I felt then.

My family waited in line for 4 hours on opening day for Star Wars. The line wrapped around the theatre 3 times. It was a cultural phenomenon that has only been seen 2 other times... when Empire and Jedi came out (tho Avengers Endgame came close)

I saw all the Star Wars movies in the cinema as they were released. We had to literally wait years for the next part. Lucas's company Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) was created to produce special effects in movies, and they continue to be the cutting-edge of SFX to this day.
