uncut reaction: www.patreon.com/posts/uncut-full-star-40345102 someone commented: "Didn't she mention she knew who Luke's father is @ 5:30 in the Episode IV video?" I had to go back to that video to see what they meant because i was sure i wouldn't have said that, since i literally didn't know that was his father before watching this movie. to break it down for everyone: "a guy named luke finds out he has a father [comma , {there's}] someone named dark vader" i was listing things i knew and i meant that i know that there is someone in this movie named darth vader. none of my family or close friends watched star wars so i didn't grow up knowing that fact. anyway, thanks for watching~ - notes: in order for me to do uncut reactions, i switched to the brio 4k webcam (my 70D stopped every 30mins or needed a battery change/SD card emptying), i tested the brio cam with green screen and it just didn't look good, so for now, no more green screen. i added subtitles so it helps with any sound discrepancies so apologies for that, trying to work around copyright as always. but if you want to hear it best, listen with headphones. i edited the whole thing with headphones and was good for me :) also, i tested a new style of editing so I can make the screen a bit bigger.

Here's a thought that's going to fester: why DID Kenobe tell Luke that Vader murdered his father? You're right, it is a love triangle. "I love you" was an admission from Leia; Han spent the first half of the movie wanting her to return his feelings. She ran away after the kiss because of her inner conflict over it. "I love you," was the moment her conflict was resolved. But it was also goodbye because everyone thought Han was going to die. I definitely think the remastered version isn't as good. The conversation with the emperor run s the subtext that Vader was hunting for Luke in secret, and that the Admiral and Vader didn't see eye to eye on it. The admiral wanted destruction, Vader wanted his son. "...and I'm sure Skywalker is with them." The conversation with the emperor was an "oh shit" moment, a confession, and a negotiation to save his son. Glad you picked the release order. You get all the twists and surprises without the spoilers. The acting and characters are better, and the special effects aren't CGI.

My dad never offered to rule the galaxy with me as father and son. :( Seriously, though... my Dad played with us as kids, drove us to fun activities, read to us, listened to us, and formed a mutually supportive parental team with my Mom. So I was joking above, but in reality, I'm very grateful to my parents for everything they did for us. :)

Yeah. It's sort of really hard to hold back spoilers, haha!!! I really want to say something. Plus what is being hold back, everyone kind of knew going in to Return Of The Jedi. Well, I wasn't alive back in the day, but I heard a lot of people were theorizing stuff back in the day during the 3-year wait between Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. The movie ended up confirming stuff. So it wasn't too much of a surprise or spoiler. And there is that one line too in Empire Strikes Back that made them trigger the theory when theorizing.

They tried having Han say “I love you too” multiple times, but it just wasn’t working. So Harrison Ford improvised what he thought Han would say, and it was perfect. I saw a watch along that had Sam Witwer, who is in some star wars stuff, and when the scene happened, he said that it’s a moment of growth for Han because he looks at her like “I know, and I’m so sorry. This is gonna be hardest on you.” He’s worried about her and how what’s about to happen to him will affect her. That blew my mind! I never thought of it that way.

I actually find it more sweet and sensible to say "I know" considering the circumstance, saying "I love you" when he might be dead just seconds later would put some more weigh and more pain on her, saying "I know" is acknowledging that it's going to be hard and painful for her and more understaning imo. Never understand why people are pissed that he"s not saying I love you back.

Han's "I know" response wasn't an "I'm too cool and emotionally detached to reciprocate your professed affections", as so many seem to interpret it. Rather, it was a succinct way to tell Leia he knows there are so many things they left unexpressed to one another and now they've suddenly, unexpectedly run out of time (as these might be their final moments together). He reads and perfectly understands the anguished desperation in her "I love you" being all that she can think of (or have time) to say, and is simply reassuring he that he knows there's so much more she wants to be able to say to him but that she should not agonize over not being able to say it because he already knows everything in her heart because he feels the exact same way about her and about things being left unsaid. In short, "I know" means "I know exactly how you're feeling right now because I feel the exact same way, so nothing more needs to be said."

Fact: Han said “I know” instead of “I Love You” was intentional. The hibernation scene took 16 days to film, and the movie could have collapsed all together because there wasn’t a real script for that scene. They had to make each part as they went along and everyone on set argued intensely how it was suppose to go. When it came to Leia saying I love you, Han did say I love you too, but both Harrison Ford and the director Irvin Kirshner thought it ruined the 16 days of dramatic filming it too to make the scene. Ford came up with the “I know” as it was more fitting for Han’s character. Kirshner loved it. When it was replayed again, the cast on set loved it to. It was history after that.

The cave on Dagobah. Darth Vader was in there because when Luke says "what's in there?" Yoda says "only what you take with you." Luke took his weapons in there, and so he had a fight. Yeah and speaking on a deeper level, what he "took with him" when he went inside the cave was fear - which leads to the dark side. I think this is less about Luke or Anakin in particular and more of a metaphor that can be applied to anyone: We have the power to choose how to orient ourselves in the world. If we choose the path of fear, aggression, resentment, we shape the world around us in a certain way and potentially open ourselves up to horrible things.

3:46 - No no...they're not "together", she did it to piss off Han. There are more female characters in the other Star Wars trilogies. You just gotta be patient, yes... The prequel trilogy (episodes 1-3) is basically the "backstory" of Darth Vader, obviously a very tragic arc. Han Solo is not conceited, he's the "bad boy" character. Luke is younger than him, which is why he calls him "kid".

Now you must make the choice of whether you want to do the "machete order", inserting the Prequels (episode 1-3) as an enormous flashback between episodes 5 and 6, OR just go on watching them in release order, watching Episode 6 and then delve into the backstory provided by the prequels. There are advantages to both, and no matter what order you do them in, half the people in the comment field will be yelling that you are doing it wrong and "ruining" your experience as a first-time viewer. Inserting the prequels as a three-movie flashback can be said to disrupt the flow of the original trilogy (and you must wait to find out what happened to Han). On the other hand, as other reactors have discovered, now getting the full backstory of what happened to Luke's father surely makes the final resolution in Return of the Jedi far more emotional, since you will KNOW Darth Vader in a much deeper way, and also get to really know the TRUE antagonist and super-villain of the Star Wars saga: The Emperor, Vader's master that you only glimpsed in a hologram in this movie. It was he, DARTH SIDIOUS, who destroyed Galactic democracy to set up the Empire, and who corrupted Luke's once-heroic father to make him join the dark side of the Force. Do as you want, but it must be said that if you watch them in release order, you will be ending your experience of the George Lucas canon with the darkest, most tragic and gut-wrenching movie in the entire franchise: Revenge of the Sith. Saving Return of the Jedi for last, the movie where the whole two-generation story resolves, will at least provide a more uplifting finale (and since you are watching the remastered versions, there is actually an actor from the prequels that has been retroactively inserted into Return of the Jedi; it is probably possible to guess from the context who he is even without watching the prequels first, but knowing them surely makes it more emotional to see him again).

The aliens are essentially the minorities and in actuality remember this is not earth or our solar system, it is "A Galaxy Far Far Away" so even the humanoids are alien. You really have to see it from a different perspective, it's one of the reasons Star Wars is so beloved, it's about adventure, escapism and immersing yourself in a galaxy of wonder. If you're a reader or like audible, Star Wars has many books that were written after The Return of the Jedi and includes loads of different characters, worlds and plots, it was called The Expanded Universe before Disney kicked it to the curb. But you can still find them and several of them are on Audible, just steer clear of the Disney ones until you get a good footing on the lore created before Lucas sold it. Have fun.

I think, even though the "I know" line from Han was sort of an improv, it also works great in context. Not just because it fits the character but in that situation it really was exactly what Leia needed to hear. He doesn't need to tell her that he loves her. His actions throughout the movie already make that abundantly clear. Instead he tells her that, despite her efforts to hide it, he had already realized her true feelings toward him, thereby relieving her of any guilt she might feel for not saying it sooner. He tells her that he felt her love during their time together and can die happy because of it. Or maybe I'm reading way to much into a simple improv. What do I know?
@darylabrams2

No you're absolutely right. Harrison said that Han just saying I love you too didn't seem right. Han had already shown Leia that he was in love with her. She had basically brushed him off in the film but he let her know at the end that he did know she loved him. Women seem to get hung up on this scene because they want Han to say it back. But look this movie is like 40 years old now and we still talk about this scene so I guess they did it right.

•Don't worry about the iconic Leia hairstyle; she's only wearing that style in A New Hope. •Mark Hamill was in a crash and had some surgery either before this film or the next one (I forget), so that explains why he may look different. •Yes, Lord Vader is known to kill subordinate officers who fail or make him angry. Want to join the Empire now? •There were other women in the command center and the Rebellion has a female Chancellor. There will be more women shown later on. •With the Sith, there can only be 2: a master and an apprentice. Vader is the apprentice, while the Emperor is the master. •Lando Calrissian is the first and the prominent character of color in the Original Trilogy. •Til the next movie, but that's all I'm gonna say. •Well to quote A Few Good Men, "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!" •This film is often regarded as the best Star Wars film. It's my personal favorite too.

"Lando Calrissian is the first and the prominent character of color in the Original Trilogy" And what, toedy, many won't notice, rather progressive in 1980. He's the Administrator of Cloud City AND his flirting with Leia is not considered "weird" or "socially unacceptable"... Han is annoyed because it's LEIA, not because a black guy is flirting with a white woman. "Yes, Lord Vader is known to kill subordinate officers who fail or make him angry. Want to join the Empire now" in most cases he executes incompetent Idiots like Kendal Ozzel, though both canon and the good old EU that habbit has been blown quite a bit out of proportion... well written, he usually executes only idiots, Traitors, etc. Matter of fact, the Stormtroopers liked him quite a bit, because Vader was willing to get down and get his hands dirty, sharing their danger, rather than sitting in a Star Destroyer and ordering them around.

The first and the prominent character of color? What do you call Yoda?

I would call Yoda a character of color. Don’t be racist.

Super interesting to see your real-time reaction to learning that Vader is Luke’s father!

Whoa I've never see anyone come into this not already knowing the "I am your father" line just from general pop culture! That is wild. Looking forward to the next review.
