You're complaining that the awards films aren't "mainstream" and yet you make no mention that it's all the fault of the studios. In the mid 2000s, they went all-in on IP to chase billion dollar movies because they all became owned by giant conglomerates who want to move their stock value. That eliminated the mid-budget movie, many of which were the "awards movies". So the indie studios scooped up that market. That's why guys like Nolan, Cameron and Villeneuve are so valuable because they can give you awards caliber films that also play like blockbusters.

Kristian I think you put too much emphasis on the idea of making it so that actors when they accept their awards should just “go away” after they say thanks. The point of awards is to say thanks but also if they want to say something that can be inspiring to their own experience that shapes how other people become fascinated by them then they should be allowed to say that. One of the greatest Oscar speeches ever was when McConaughey won his Oscar and that was a longer speech by normal standards and has stuff in it that you might not want said because it slows down the pace of the show. Also, the whole “Female Actor” and “Male Actor” point you made is a bit weird but we’ll agree to disagree there.
@iansmart41582 күн бұрын
Yeah most actors never get to be in that stage or get that kind of recognition. If they wanna say something they’re passionate about, why not? You may never get an opportunity again!
@OrionInSpace2 күн бұрын
@ exactly that’s another great point, and so with Demi her having not won any of the major awards is a major accomplishment and one that she absolutely deserves to celebrate for a few minutes by thinking people, but also be inspiring to others who can do stuff like this and recognize that no matter how long you were in an industry you will still eventually potentially get recognized for your work.

I love Knights of the Old Republic. It's one of my favorite video games of all time, but I do not want this being made under the current regime of Lucasfilm. So we will have been waiting years and years and years for KOTOR and then they do it, it tanks, they cancel or keep raking us through the coals with their piece of crap version and that’s the end of that story. The premise of Kotor definitely could be god tier if they adapted it right......They could spend a decade creating amazing stories/films /games without even getting into the plot beats of the first game.....meaning "Group of Jedi Knights disobey Jedi Council to go and protect the Republic in a massive war against The Mandalorians" being the 1st half of the story...... Then the 2nd half of the saga would be dealing with the Sith who emerged from that war. There could be so many cool Mandalorian/Jedi/Sith toys spawned from a proper Kotor adaptation...Merchandising could be a MCU-sized gold mine if handled with the proper scale and care.

I’ve been a fan for more than ten years and I gotta say the “Oscars need to reward popular movies” bit was really embarrassing. It’s the Academy’s job to reward the best movies, not the biggest movies. Sometimes they overlap - look at Oppenheimer. But, if you feel left out for not seeing smaller films, then make the time to see them! The Brutalist, Sing Sing, Anora, and Emilia Perez were all better than Deadpool, Gladiator 2, Moana 2, and most other blockbusters this year.

A couple other issues that will rise with KOTOR. Since Revan could have been male or female and any complexion in the videogame (just like the Jedi Outcast in the sequel game). Star Wars fans will scream woke and DEI hires if Revan or any Jedi or Sith are female or look "ethnic", which will cause the series to not be received positively. Also, big issue with Star Wars from the Prequels to the Sequels, the technology of the eras should have shown greater disparities. Whether a series is set 1000 years or 4000 years earlier, the technology has to be extremely primitive compared to the tech displayed in the main Prequel, Original and Sequel movies, else it will be very unimmersive for me. I gave them a pass with the games, as I had no idea how they could differ much but keep it "Star Wars". Nonetheless, it was an issue for me when the games first came out, 4000 years and the fashion and technology mirrored Return of the Jedi technology?

My concern for years has been this "need" for Lucasfilm to shrink time frames down. KOTOR being placed 4000 years ago may have seemed insane in the day. However, considering species like Yoda's existing for centuries, I think a time frame surpassing more than 2000 years would be safer. As the evolution or devolution of the Sith species, to the Sith Empire to the early Rule of 2 days all the way to the era of Yoda where the Sith were barely an after thiught. The screwiness of the Prequel trilogy necessitates that Revan be pushed back to the point that it is more legend to the Jedi rather than a bit of history. I've been loving Star Wars since 1977, the current regime are many who were around during the prequel era of George Lucas. The issues to my sad reality started at The Phantom Menace and it kept eating itself since, with a few occasional wins. Truth is uglier than just the Disney era.

Dave Filoni should be doing a LUKE SKYWALKER focused animated series (post ROTJ) similar to Clone Wars & Rebels and show us Luke still young, at the height of his powers and on his adventures leading up to him creating his first Jedi Temple. Let Dave Filoni create new lore in the animated realm in a timeline and on a character we haven't had a lot of focus. The OG man himself. For TV.. if they are going to do Knights Of The Old Republic as a live action series or movie series they should absolutely let Benioff & Weiss write the entire treatment from start to finish and treat it seriously. Let it be deep and engaging hour-long episodes. Let the movies return to Rey and FIX IT, you gotta fix what you did there.

Wicked part 1 doesn’t actually step on any of the canon at all. The Wizard of Oz leaves a lot to be explored and desired. The sequel books are written like sequels that were created because the original was so popular that they just had to do it - for the money. The writing gets progressively worse each book and the stories get progressively weirder (not in a good way). It becomes a chore to get through them. Wicked is presented like a story that is showing the same exact story but through a different lens. It seems that what you remember from the wizard of oz is through the perspective of whatever age you were when you last consumed anything from that world. Oz has no power. He’s a fake. He says it himself. He stuffed the scarecrows head with some mash and nails or something. Scarecrow’s head was all bulging and lopsided. In the movie he gives the scarecrow a diploma as if that proves he must have brains. Anyway, I could go on and on but the point is, it’s not what you think. The cleverness of Wicked is that it is telling a new story without stepping on the beats of the original. Its goal is to fit into the canon of the franchise if need be.
@IndianaJake3 күн бұрын
Oz is a phony but he was never evil in the original movie. That's objective fact. He actually seemed like quite a nice guy. You had me interested at the idea of a KOTOR tv show, but it was lost when it was iterated that they’d tell their own story and mix in old characters. Lucasfilm has the track record of making their versions of older stories to be worse than the original ones. Changing elements of the Plagueis novel for the acolyte didn’t work, the Kenobi book is better than the show we got, and a majority of people feel like the EU did a better job of continuing the OG characters development than the sequels, as just a few examples. I doubt they’ll make something even comparable to the KOTOR game. It’s to the point where it’s not worth investing in a new show or movie with Star Wars if it’s going to change the stories of the games and books I grew up loving when they turn out inferior. Last of us works so well because the show adds to the story, and doesn’t change it up to be different for the sake of being. They either need brand new characters with a whole new timeline slate, or remake the things that were great, and include the things that made it great, not just pieces.

We know that KK always wanted to put Brie Larson into Star Wars universe (as she is her big fan) and Brie herself pitched some ideas that were dropped in choice of Acolyte and Mandalorian. There was also a rumour that she would be playing a well known character (which name was not specified but everyone thought it is Revan) was when Captain Marvel was in cinemas and that more info will be provided by leakers in future but then Disney witheld that project alongside with Waititi's movie.

The thing that made KOTOR great was that Bioware created characters that people could feel for and didn't create a plot that was dumb in ways that interfered with the consumer's ability to feel for and care for the those characters. KOTOR's plot (I played the original one and the Sith Lords one that came after it. I don't know anything about the MMO or anything else) was relatively standard SW quality. Definitely not Shakespeare or something, just, y'know, serviceable and decent, and that was fine, because all it had to do was just stay out of the way of the core characters feeling really good and the redemption arcs feel very noble and uplifting. Redemption arcs? No? Y'all would want to see Sith versions of Revan and the Exile? Don't hold your breath.

Kristian talks about awards being snooty and not voting for sci-fi epic Dune. When they gave best actress to Demi Moore for THE SUBSTANCE. Which is it? Also most box office hits are not amongst the 10 to 20 best films of the year. It’s very rare. Also in the 90s that’s a time when ppl actually watched movies for adults. Now they only watch Deadpool and Wolverine. That’s not worthy of any awards.

I love this show and have followed you guys since the beginning but I think your perspective on these awards shows are a bit misinformed. These "hoity toity" films like "Nickel Boys", "Emilia Perez" and The Brutalist" are genuinely some of the absolute best of the year and I think some of the rhetoric is a bit dismissive. I promise I'm not a troll or a hater at all. I barely comment but I think these award shows are specifically meant to highlight these incredible films outside of blockbuster fare. The people who consistently cover awards season love Dune and Wicked! But many other films come out and I don't necessarily know if you've seen enough of the nominees to speak on the choices made by some of these awards bodies. I might be wrong, and again I'm a super fan, keep it up and I hope you have a great 2025!

I personally think "Saturday Night" and "The Apprentice", films that are being relatively forgotten by these awards shows are both much more deserving than "Wicked" and "Dune 2", but thats just my opinion! These consensus's aren't always going to line up with our personal picks. I don't think commercial or independent backing really has anything to do with it because clearly most of these groups disagree with me. Giving awards to bigger films would only help get more views, but the small films are consistently highlighted each year alongside movies like "Top Gun" or "Barbie", which I think is honorable rather than pretentious. There's always the Peoples Choice Awards, MTV Movie Awards and many others that cater specifically to studio hits.

While Kotor is my 2nd favorite Star Wars story, I don't trust the current leadership to make it. And if they "Andor" it, I will definitely be ignoring it cause no matter how much y'all slob on Andor the fact remains it's boring and barely anyone watched it. I'm convinced they'd get someone who's never played Kotor and who has ZERO knowledge of the EU stories of the time that made people fall in love with the era. Someone who's only interest is not to make a series faithful to the lore, but to "subvert expectations".

NO!!! Don’t touch the Kotor era!!! Not this iteration of Lucas Film! Now if Kennedy and all the social justice peeps were gone …yes!

I just don’t trust Lucasfilm to do KOTR any justice anymore. I like Skeleton Crew but it’s barely Star Wars for me. I did not like Acolyte. At all. I think Rogue One and Andor have been the only great things Disney has done with Star Wars. Everything else has been pretty good but not great to just straight up garbage.

I’m just glad Star Wars is gonna tell more stories not connected to the Skywalker saga.

I don't think Filoni works without George or someone else like that guiding him, but he was not the problem with Acolyte. That show was trash from top to bottom. Everything about it was garbage and antithetical to Star Wars. That should have been a faithful Bane or Plagueis adaptation. Instead, it was Headland's Hang-ups the series.

Nikki Glazer was awful. Tamest jokes. Insult celebrities. They are terrible people and they have skeletons in their closet. No one will ever beat Ricky Gervais he raked them over the coals and they all deserved being made fun of

I love the Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 games. However, after the garbage series that was The Acolyte, I will not be excited about the Knights of the Old Republic series until Kathleen Kenedy and Dave Filoni are no longer in charge of Lucasfilm.

On my opinion Star Wars legends is better then canon Disney bring legends back to canon because they don’t know what to do anymore and the sith and Jedi history in legends have a better back story because the old republic era and dawn of the Jedi where great and awesome because the sith and Jedi had a better story
@wolfinstedd3 күн бұрын
If was me planning the old republic I go Season 1 with a young raven and malic friendship Season 2 young adult raven (which keep masked, keep the twist for new fans in season 3 ) in the mandoleran war Season 3 old revan cover the video game Season 4 is his Return travels to Sith empire and face emperor. Season 3/4 has same actor for revan.

Dune 2 just isn’t as good as Kristian thinks it is. The characters are dull and the themes are bare bones thin. Greg Fraiser is great but I don’t consider Denis snubbed at all. It’s subjective of course but he doesn’t need to become a conspiracy theorist to cope about it. Lol
@LazyEyeNZ3 күн бұрын
Yeah I've tried to get into the Dune films but I just can't. I gave them both a shot in the cinema and just wasn't able to connect to the story or the characters and just found both experiences to be quite dull. I know my opinion is in the minority but I appreciate that most people love these films.

I've never wanted to see a character made into live action more than Darth Malgus. And if they do this, they had better do him right or I'll be swearing off star wars forever. He's always been my favourite character in the franchise and he deserves to be treated with the utmost respect.

I have no faith in this leadership at Lucasfilm making KotoR a series, literally the current leadership at Lucasfilm and Star wars in general is like the New York Jets horribly ran clown fiesta of decision makers. KotoR is for a certain generation of people "their" Star Wars story in my opinion its Lucasfilms LAST hope to save the IP from just absolutely being a laughing stock and this current regime cannot be trusted to make it

For the love of God if this is real stick to the source material and don't Disneyfy the KOTOR series.

would never happen because according to KK "there is no source material"

The vibe I get from (other) people talking about movies and TV shows is pretty well summed up by The Offspring with their song 'It's Cool To Hate'. I wish someone wrote a song with the title 'It's Cool To Be Just OK '.
