Wait a minute... Who in their right mind puts space battles above lightsaber fights?! I mean yeah, they're up there but lightsaber fights are like one of the defining characteristics of a force user! The one fight that everyone thinks of when people think of lightsaber fights is Qui Gon and Obi-Wan versus Darth Maul!
@scp--2973 жыл бұрын
@@BossVolt What's really throwing me off is why do they like the spaces battles? I do but that's mostly because I just love seeing the Separatist generals' think of plains to defeat Ankain or Watching Ankain think of a "plain" to pull on the Separatist. Watch them is fucking awesome because it shows the flaws and pro of their battle tactics. However, I'm a history nerd, I like battles and seeing fights so no shit. I would like it better then the lightsaber fight (to explain, before I knew Star Wars. I knew fantasy rps, fantasy games, and d&d. So unless your use more then just your sword. I didn't find anything interesting until I got to the prequels movies/ series which I'm still finishing. Also the game.) But I wanted to know why other fans would? From I hear and seen from the new moives. None of the battles are interesting! There is no battle formations nor battle tactics. No real plains but "shoot until the plot says we won!" Or "Flee, we're losing!"

I don't mind an occasional genre switch from the Star Wars brand; I basically don't assess it as 'Star Wars', but rather as the sub-genre it's trying to be today. I didn't mind Rogue One so much because it was a war film, written like a war film, shot like a war film, directed like a war film and it plays out like a war film. But I wouldn't say it felt particularly 'Star Wars-y.' By the same token, I don't mind Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars books (though *only* when written by Timothy Zahn) because I very much like (and infrequently hobby-write) military science fiction, and reading about this military genius gives me ideas and I have fun with the naval bits. It also helps that Timothy Zahn (usually) knows how to tell a story without nose-diving into deep-lore bull. But I come to Star Wars for the spinny laser sword fights, and I stay for the spinny laser sword fights. When kids play Star Wars, they play with lightsabers. Everybody I've ever asked has a favourite lightsaber duel. Most even have a favourite lightsaber - the one they want to swing around. When they were filming the prequel trilogy, they kept having to re-shoot scenes because the actors got so into having fun swinging lightsabers around that they started *making lightsaber noises on set,* which was throwing off the audio. Nobody I've asked, not even most of the deep-lore nerds, have a favourite blaster or a favourite stormtrooper shootout. Also, gay jedi/sith romance is the best Star Wars romance, and I will hit anyone who says otherwise with my plastic glowy spinny laser sword.

I didn't think Rey was a Mary Sue at all the first time I watched the sequel trilogy movies... there are a few moments where she feels weirdly overpowered, but that's not so much a character flaw as an overall story one. As for her parentage... I was disappointed. The first movie made it SEEM like there was some sort of hidden importance to Rey's parents, giving us only the fact that they left Rey behind and disappeared, and she's still waiting for them. Since our main character is still waiting, it feels like we should be waiting for them as well. In that context, the only satisfying payoff will be if Rey's parents are important or recognizable. If they'd just been random people who died on their ship, just make Rey see it, convince your audience it's true by showing on screen, and make her backstory that much more interesting!

Hmm, one wonders. I got caught up in comparing the standards set out in the other movies beat-for-beat to Rey's arc in the new ones, and perhaps I'm missing the point by doing so. I suppose I haven't given it much thought, but off the top of my head, when I think 'Mary Sue' I think of a character who goes from point A to point B without any effort. Such a thing would represent a loss of potential, if nothing else. Unless it's part of the point. With Rey, not only is it kinda part of the point, but it's not actually what happens. When she beats Kylo it was only after she made the effort of recognising her connection to the Force, allowing her to beat an injured man, and create the question of how she is so powerful. She makes an effort to convince Luke to help her, plus train herself and deepen her connection to the Force to stand up to Kylo, whom it was implied she was born to match. Then she had to make an effort to not fall prey to her darker emotions and recognise the greater good to beat the emperor. So, unless I'm missing something, I've been pretty unfair to the sequels and am now gonna - slightly - amend my review of Episode XI. Thanks for that kick in the pants, Lily. Lesson learned.
@LoganProductions544 жыл бұрын
A big issue with the sequel trilogy is the re-hashing yes. But the fact the Sith are dead, and now we have the Not-Sith (Snoke and Kylo) and in Episode 9('s novel, from what I've been told, I refuse to get it), Palpatine promises to make Kylo a Sith Lord like his grandfather for... no real reason? Why is that something you'd offer on TOP of the Final Order Fleet? Pre-Palpatine revival, Dark-Empire-but-not, it was just two Jedi, Luke and Leia vs not Sith. The two orders were all but dead, again. I know Disney didn't want to risk pissing off people still in "recovery" over the Prequels were there were thousands of Jedi at once, but for God's sake, at least make it where Luke was at least able to have a dozen or two successfully mastered students and not just LEIA who "cut herself off" because she was afraid of a vision where her son died because she completed her training. (Again, novel, I didn't read it, friend did. If it's not true, sorry). As a bit overdone as the Jedi vs Sith feud is being re-treaded, seeing "Jedi are about to die off, and evil is conquering, and only ONE person can stop it' is far more annoying to see, and it's doubly so in Star Wars with the Rebellion Trilogy, the Resistance Trilogy, the KOTOR games (Hey thanks KOTOR 2/REVAN novel for making it where Revan saved the Order, and Meetra doing so as well completely pointless), and the LEGACY Era where Cade, and like, three other Jedi are all that remains against the One Sith Empire.

Look I love space battles (X-Wing is literally my favorite fictional vehicle, bar nothing), I love loads of periphery material like Rogue One, and the Mandolorian, I even love digging into minutia, but if you look at Star Wars as a whole and come away thinking that the core is somehow NOT varying iterations of Space Wizards trying to murder eachother with magic laser swords, you might wanna check you skull for termites. Even when they jettisoned literally decades of works from the canon they effectively came back to that core which is good, because keeping a consistent core idea for what your franchise is, is vital to keeping it alive. Having preferences and personal takes on the execution of that core is one thing but trying to convince yourself that the core is something else is another thing entirely, namely an incorrect thing. Hell if anything the Original Trilogy is the anomaly with there only being like 3 active force users. There can be and should be room for variety, but at the very least can we not kid ourselves as to who's in the driver's seat of this fictional universe? Phh asking Fandom not to kid itself... Sisyphus has it easy.

I would have liked if they had to enter a more "equal footing" (though they should technically even have the upper hand) war with the Empire's remnants without the assumption of instantly losing. Like, the New Republic is so damn weak that the First Order just blitzkrieged them into oblivion without the jedi. Am I supposed to believe that would happen? It was always a deal breaker for me.

The bounty hunter, operative and trooper in swtor had great stories. Showing how non force sensitives effected the world. Especially if you went choose light side options in an empire class. While the Jedi and with make big moves it wouldn’t be possible without the work of their underlings. I think your mixing stakes of a story with quality. @LtZerge4 жыл бұрын
I think it's especially odd here, because it goes far far beyond basic intuition. Before the force raised your base stats a lot, your coordination and reflexes would seem super human even with minimal training, but actually using it to specific effect took effort and training to do. It's the difference between young Anakin pushing random buttons in a parked starfighter to blow up a hangar bay, and Rey piloting the Falcon 10x better than Han with no knowledge of the ship or flying at all. Even then Anakin's character and actor got so much hate it reached legendary status. Being magically better at everything than everyone else isn't as satisfying or relatable as a character who earns things in a believable way, even if there still has to be some suspension of disbelief or simple throw-away explanations. Like using Luke's experience with game hunting in a T16 as a setup to his miracle shot on the death star. Simple scene, but it's enough, the audience has something to fill in the blanks with.

Hey there! Just found this video. I love almost everything you had to say, with one exception. I think it's perfectly fine if you want to play as an Imperial Agent or a Smuggler, etc. They may not be the core of Star Wars, but they're still a part of the overarching universe, and to deny the importance of a character like Han Solo or Thrawn is to deny certain kinds of characters that make a truly interesting Star Wars story. Also, while I'm not sure if this was the point you were really trying to make, I don't think that lightsaber battles are really the 'heart of Star Wars.' I do think, however, that the character dynamics behind those lightsaber fights are the core. It's why I the fight against Maul in Episode I was boring. It looked flashy, but there were no character stakes involved. In the original trilogy, the actual fights were far simpler from a cinematic perspective, but the duels were as much with dialogue as with weapons. It was the characters fighting each other on psychological and philosophical levels in addition to the martial fight that was happening. It's why I can still adore the silly stick-swinging in Episode IV, because I care about Obi-Wan and Vader and their dynamic. Also, yes. Jedi ladies loving Sith ladies should totally be a thing that happens more often. How cool would it be for Obi-Wan to suddenly be tempted by a Sith woman whose surname is literally a anagram of his own? More than that, she's not a power-hungry mad-woman, and she's actually sensible and even compassionate? Force forbid a Sith could be a three-dimensional character, right?

7:30 the problem with that whole section of the movie is that: 1. It does very little to really advance the plot. The entire purpose of the trip was made mute by logic breaking light speed ramming. It's just fluff that sidelines a really interesting and fun character (Fin) away from the real plot. 2. It had an escaped kidnapped child solider being lectured on the horrors of slavery. If they wanted to have that conversation in the movie, Fin should have been the one talking. 3. The weird rushed forced romance between Fin and Rose. Fin has way better chemistry with Poe than Rose, and fuck heteronormativity

It's always weird to me that writers pick sith to actually explore what it means to living in a setting with the force. I would say that a Jedi, escaping the confines of their strict dogma, and actually exploring the world for the first time in a way that isn't cucked would 8e a gr8 way to give us some insight.

From my experiences, the people who care more about non-Force users are the same ones who fixate on lore and worldbuilding guff the most. How anyone can look at the Sith and Jedi doing cool shit with laser swords and space magic and think "That's enough of that, gotta get back to those bounty hunter people!" is baffling. A part of it probably relates to how modern fandom views deep dives into lore as "analytical" when really it's just pantomime. Star Wars has always held spectacle in its forefront. That's the means it's used to convey how important characters (read: Jedi and Sith) are. The Force is there to bring us cool shit, not the spice-runners or Mandos or whatever. Also, I've been shipping my Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior dudes from SWTOR, so I am 1000% on board with sapphic Force users being gay in space. :3

I've been writing Star Wars fiction and fanfiction lately, featuring main characters who are neither light nor dark. They're raised in a force-sensitive family that believes the force is a tool to protect others. Peaceful means are always preferred, but don't be afraid to get violent if need be. If one must act like a Sith to protect others, then act like a Sith. Philosophies about moral high grounds and power mean nothing when innocent lives are on the line. They don't fit in with the Jedi or Sith And I find it curious how my friends who are Star Wars fanatics tell me that that's impossible. Everyone must be either light or dark, not in between. The dark side is a slippery slope that once you start, you can't come back. I find that hard to believe. Of course in the Jedi culture that has many weird rules, all it takes is one personal attachment to trigger the snowball effect that'll make a Jedi turn Sith. Yet my reasoning is that if someone was raised in a culture where emotion is okay when controlled, released at some times yet restrained at others, they won't turn to the Sith or Jedi Kinda like how conservative cultures teach sex is vile but won't educate the kids on how to deal with sexual urges, then the kids become the most promiscuous people on the planet as they've never been taught how to healthily deal with sexual urges

It has interesting plotlines for almost every class, you can choose how you want to play out your character in Bioware fashion and the quests don't feel like fetch quests or mindless grinding, and that is true from the start. They leave that feeling for bonus or side quests only, and even most side quests can be interesting in one way or another. It also has quite the lifespan in game time. Each story has around 15-20 hours of gameplay I'd say, plus the expansions after the class stories. If you liked KOTOR, you'll probably like this one.

Are the majority of those video game clips from star wars knights of the old republic online? I thought it was an MMO, but it looks like it has a story.

I've recently gotten into play Star Wars the Old Republic (SWTOR), and I'm really loving the Light Sith (Inquisitor) side. I've never been into the Star Wars movies or comics, but I know at least 3 people who are hardcore Star Wars nerds, and those 3 people say that the new movies are absolute shit and I shouldn't waste my time or money. One thing I'm kinda sad about SWTOR is that in the original first tier (don't know what to call it, there are 3 'tiers' and I'm still a beginner), your romance options are limited to opposite-sex. Only in the 2nd and 3rd tiers is there a possibility for same-sex relations as most every character is default bisexual

ok i'll admit i was one of the fans that believe rey was a mary sue because her being able to do badass jedi stuff i such a short time period. yeah shame on me and i'm sorry for that lily. i still think the rey being the grand daughter of palpitne is BS as to who would want to have a child with that guy? and the bigger question is if she even wanted to make a child with him or did he pull off some force trick?

So this is gonna sound stupid but, what game is a lot of the footage she brings up from? Is it old republic 2? Because those graphics look pretty alright for a game that came out in 2004 and I wanna play it
