As an 80s child, this was chock full of nostalgia and I really enjoyed it! Loved the design of the home interiors, and Neel is already my fave in the group, but I've enjoyed all their characters so far! One small detail I liked is how after Fern's tale about hearing people banging on the door to be let out if you listened close enough, the group themselves end up doing that when the ship's doors slam shut! Glad you liked it too, John!

Stating with the pirates is exactly like starting with the Fratelli's break out in goonies, teasing the danger to come for our group of kid heroes, great stuff. Good points about the planet being 'stale' and destroying individuality.

I think Brutus was the same species as the werewolf looking character in the original theatrical release of Star Wars where there was a character with a off the shelf werewolf mask in a bar. I forget the name, but it starts with an S. Supposedly Lucas hated it so much, he got replaced in the special editions with a cgi alien.

Thanks for this reaction, Rocha. One aspect of these SC crew reactions I’ve seen is that the reaction to the various parents have varied widely. Some of them have absolutely hated on Wendel and Farrow, etc. While i do suspect something (clearly) with At Attin and the government/system, I don’t know that they are terrible people like some of the other reactors have said. It’s been fascinating to see everyone’s various reactions to them.

Wim is more Luke like, naive but he yearns for adventure. Fern is more like Han, cynical bullshitter, looking out for herself but also escaping boredom. The other two are followers that I can't quite fit in to existing StarWars tropes, except for cyborg girl reminding me of Lobo, but that's purely because of the augmentations, not the character.

I'll give it this - I finally understand why I detest these kind of stories, and always have. Something I'd never been able to work out before. i find it impossible to connect to characters that are actually innocent children, because I didn't grow up like that. I scoff at a tween who still needs bedtime stories (seriously, he can't read? Who needs to be read to past 3yo?). I get irritated by a 'tough guy' front from a pathological liar. A twee best friend is just an annoying trope... At that age I was dealing with very different problems, and they weren't at all 'childish'. Don't get me wrong though - that's on me, not the show. I'm dipping because I'm already frustrated enough with the characters that I'm hoping they won't survive. Not a show for me. But I'm super glad that it seems to be hitting really well with the vast majority of Star Wars fans, and I hope that y'all enjoy it very much 🙂
