What they really want is for everyone to validate who they want to be rather than just accepting themselves as they are. When say that the system is mysoginistic, what they really mean is that not everyone agrees with them 100% of the time. True self acceptance is being self assured rather than needing assurance from other people, and not minding what other people are thinking about you. The stories they want to create are about characters who are raging narcissists like themselves, and most people do not identify with that because only a small percent of the population are narcissist.

From what I heard the whole ethical perspective was a huge problem and easily rectified. The idea that a misunderstanding can lead to great tragedy and terrible choices is worth exploring. The backstory of the Earth-Minbari War on Babylon 5 is such an example. However to portray choosing the side that causes untold death and destruction without any hint it's a tragedy is a bad move. One of the best shows in recent years even if a lot of time nothing really happened and it was purely character interactions. I loved every minute of that show!
@Noqtis4 ай бұрын
If you do good character building you don't really need a story since your characters are the story. And works like Frieren understand very well that people watch them to see characters developing instead of some crazy resolution or plot twist. That's why it's so good. It understands what it is, never tries to be anything else but just be as good as possible in the direction it naturally flows. People like also frieren so much because what frieren does was once the foundation of Hollywood entertainment. The green mile and all those great movies of the 90ies are all just character development pieces and rarely about some grand narrative. Hollywood once loved to "fake" the lore and give us just some character in a strange situation. Alien for example is like that. If you think about it, there isn't much story in the first movie. It's just some people happening to end up in a crazy situation. If tolkin would have done alien, he would have written the whole human history til that point. But Hollywood liked to make it look like there is some grad story, just not where the camera is filming. And later they would expand with sequels. Terminator is also a great example and shows a bit the difference between old and new hollywood. Because the new one is trying to solve all mystery not understanding the mystery is a feature. Like when you watch terminator wondering how the future looks like the Terminator came from is a feature of the movie. They know it and make it very vague. When new hollywood looks at this and says: wait lets resolve this, this will me amazing. Show not tell, right? Let's show them. Well, but that takes away from the experience of the first movies. Because you don't wonder anymore. It becomes kinda lame knowing too much about the world the terminator come from. Wondering about what could be, how something is, is part of a good movie experience. Like when ned stark gets killed. The scene is only so good because we kinda have an imagination of what will be and this imagination gets destroyed by his death, so we naturally ask ourselves: wtf what will now happen? Especially since the death affects many lives of characters we care about. That's great story telling.

I must say that Acolyte had one positive aspect on my life, let me explain before judging. I did not watch Star Wars until I was 19 (I was more of a Harry Potter fan, then LOTR fan) and when I finally watched it, it was forced on me by my at-the-time boyfriend who loved Star Wars to death. He also ridiculed me beforehand for not having watched it yet and being indifferent about it and then for not liking it as much as I should have in his opinion, both in private and in front of people. I just don't like being forced into anything, who does? My ex was kinda abusive and this was only one of the many things he has done. So one could say that my relationship with Star Wars was not great. I understand why people love it, don't get me wrong, I just had a bad experience connected to it which greatly coloured my perception of it. BUT now with years of healing and the Disney Star Wars being so bad, Acolyte was the catalyst that actually properly aroused my curiosity about the original Star Wars and I want to re-watch the films to compare how bad things have got and be able to argue why and how Disney has gone to sh*t. The Acolyte made a person who was at best indifferent towards Star Wars to stand behind the originals and wanting to re-watch them to learn to appreciate them. Well done. :D

I don’t know how a CEO of a company watched that “the power of maaaanyyyyyyy” scene without throwing somebody out of the window of a skyscraper….

Unironically, I was hoping for Disney to give us more. I wanted to see just how deep they would dig that hole for themselves. And it was glorious to see my favorite channels pull it apart like warm bread.

My fear is that Kathleen Kennedy will use that " win " to try to stay in charge of Lucas film therefore prolonging our suffering.

I see so many people on Twitter claiming this shitshow needed a second season to "grow into itself," and its just disgusting how awful these idiots are.

Disney won’t learn anything. They’re now in the business of telling us what to think.

I thought for sure they'd shove a season 2 down our throats just to spite us... that's what they usually do.

That's great news. And now, Shad, please review and analyze ROP season 2 that will come out in 9 days! It might end up being as bad if not worse than the Acolyte.

I almost feel guilty asking shad to do that. Almost...It entertains me greatly, but I also worry for Shad's sanity...

3:55- They'll only learn from their mistakes if they give the company back to George Lucas. Lol.

George Lucas is over the hill, he has said so himself, he deserve some peace. Same age KK has demonstrsted a very successful failure rate, no redeeming features, so question is how is she retaining power, blackmail, a planted catpaw? She is a sure thing if you want failure. How long will her gravy train go on. Maybe there is another IP out there she can ruin.

Disney didn’t learn from Willow, didn’t learn from The Dial of Destiny, why would they learn from this ? And just as with the last Indiana Jones movie, they chose someone with zero experience or success in this genre of adventure films, and in the case of Star Wars, adventures (a western) in space and science fiction.

They have no talent whatsoever so I believe them when they say they don't understand why it failed. As for $22.5 million an episode? They're creaming money off of this They're just ripping the shareholders off.

I thought this show was universally hated, but sadly, I have met people irl who actually liked the show. It’s just weird when it even has fans of any kind, especially on such a monumental level of low for Star Wars.

I'm still confused as to why they haven't released an actually good star wars TV show yet. There's a entire ocean of content to work with.. and we get commentary with politics?

Any publicity is good publicity if your product has any redeeming feature. When that saying was coined, most products had an upside. Even the bad thing was at least cheap. The Acolyte has no good side to it.
