Palpatine just wants the strongest apprentice possible. He didn’t care if it was Dooku or Anakin. That’s why he constantly put them in situations to battle one another. Grievous, Ventress, and Dooku were all tests of Anakin’s strength and to see if he’d give in to anger.

That whole exchange of "Urgh, my heart!" "How does she know it's his heart?" Is just... peak Shane energy, right there. Though honestly you could equally ask how Onaconda himself knew that it was his heart lol, but maybe Rodians have very sensitive internal nervous systems or something.

So, as far as I can tell, there's a separate vote in each of these three Politics-heavy episode; 1. In the first episode, with Mina Bonteri and the peace proposal, they were voting on whether or not to de-regulate the banks. This vote passed as a result of the separatist attack on Coruscant. 2. In the second episode, with the bounty hunters, they were voting on whether or not they should borrow more money from the now de-regulated banks in order to fund EVEN MORE clone troopers. This vote failed because of Padme's big speech. 3. Then in this episode, Padme and her alliance bring forth a further vote to, apparently, end Clone production ENTIRELY (which is a little insane if you really think about, considering they're still actively at war), and this vote ultimately fails. So the end result is that the banks were de-regulated, but the Republic hasn't opted to borrow any further money (yet), and they haven't increased or decreased the clone production, they just kinda left it where it was originally. Also, you're correct in saying that each planet has its own system for selecting Senators. In some systems the Senators are elected, either directly by the people or by some planetary council/Parliament, whereas on other worlds the Senator is directly appointed by the head of state. This is the case on Naboo, for example, as Padme was directly appointed to the Senate by the Queen who succeeded her. That's right, Naboo elects its Queens, but directly appoints its Senators, because fucking nothing on Naboo makes any sense. Also yes, there is a Wookiee Senator for Kashyyk. He's kinda gray and older looking, and you can see him in the background of like Episode 1 or 2.
@andre33285 жыл бұрын
Why is it weird that an elected official appoints a representative in the galactic senate? Surely it makes sense that the planetary leader and representative in the senate should be on the same page?
@Wolf61195 жыл бұрын
@@andre3328 It's only weird in that Queens are nearly always (though there are exceptions) appointed through royal inheritance while "Senator" almost always refers to someone who is elected to their position, so it's just a little funny that Naboo has it exactly the opposite way around.
@acdragonrider5 жыл бұрын
If we were comparing them to a historical movement, Padme and the other senators were kind of like the Copperheads. They wanted peace at the potential cost of union.

Isn’t that similarly how the British pick there prime minister? The British people vote for their representatives for parliament and it is the parliament itself that votes/picks who will be their prime minister usually by the majority party.

I don't understand *Calvin's* concerns at the beginning. He's going by the assumption that everything *_we've_*_ already seen_ in the films is planned out. And I'm talking about _everything._ If all Palpatine wants is Anakin, it doesn't matter if Padme is alive or dead. If she's alive, he'll use that. If she's dead he'll use _that._ As I see it, her death helps him in many _more_ ways, because she's getting in the way politically. And her death _before_ Episode 3 just leaves him free to manipulate Anakin without her influence and while he is in despair.

The true genius of Palpatine is the way he moves and adapts effortlessly. He does have a core plan, but as to how (and when) he will ultimately execute it - that's never 100% set in stone. He's absolutely terrifying and I shake my head at everyone who says that Vader is the greatest, most evil villain. It's clearly Palpatine.

Senator Deechi is an Umbaran, I believe. And Sly Moore, another Umbaran from Revenge of the Sith, is one of Palpatine's aides. Though I don't believe she has appeared in this series. You get a very good look at their world later on in The Clone Wars. The world the Umbarans evolved on is very dark, so pretty much every living thing on the planet is nocturnal. Hence why Deechi's likes having such a dark office.

I don't think Anakin was Palpatine's ultimate goal. I think he was just one of many contingencies that were put in place. this remains true even if you believe the (mostly confirmed) idea that Anakin was Palpatine's son. If anakin died I doubt it would have been of a set back for his over raching plan of galactic control. and I think he could have turned Anakin sooner is he wanted to, but was waiting for other things to play out. Plus had a road map to the empire he was following.

Not my favorite episodes, and I never really understood what Padme and others were trying to accomplish. "Okay, we are going to stop the production of more clones because war is bad and stuff." And, then what? Hope that Dooku and the Separatist leaders get bored and pull back their forces? Surely Padme out of all those politicians should know that Dooku and the rest of the Separatist leadership are utterly corrupt, cruel, and power hungry, and as long as they lead the Separatists, there will never be peace. You would think that better alternative to more clones would be trying to turn the Separatist planets against their leaders, tell them that they have been lied to, and show them all the war crimes the droid army has committed, but they don't do that for some reason. Can't wait for next episode though!
@Wolf61195 жыл бұрын
Well, the actual intro to the episode makes it sound like Padme is trying to prevent an ACCELERATION of the Clone production, which would be a reasonable stance to take since we know the Republic is already on the verge of bankruptcy, so dialing the arms race up even further would be economic suicide. But then at the end of the episode they make it seem like the vote was meant to decide whether or not they would keep producing Clones AT ALL which, yeah, it'd be pretty crazy to just suddenly stop cold turkey and hope the separatists do the same out of good will.
@HIPEOPLE18875 жыл бұрын
Beltims I mean, she also sees the clone army as somewhat unethical. It’s not just stopping troop production, it’s stopping production of essentially child soldiers who’s only purpose is war
@brandonlyon7305 жыл бұрын
And what else are they going to use to fight the droid armies? I think more people would be pissed off if they were forced to draft people once the supply of clones run out which will no doubt make the economy worse when a good amount of the population is forced into war.
@TheKat123644 жыл бұрын
I think every time Padame tries to get a vote through it is twisted by Palpatine and other senators like the trade federation and the banking clan. I think Padame was trying to stop the acquisition of funds from other places. They have a budget of x credit towards clone production and than x amount for social services. But to continue the war the money for social services is being used for the war. Padame is trying to get them to stay in budget. But again other influences are twisting the sentiment behind the vote.
