@Jimb0 Lmao you say that like episode 1 and 2 are consistent AT ALL. There was zero overarching story and I'm tired b of being told that. They were building to Darth Vader....that's literally it. They threw a bunch of s**t at a wall and none of it mattered as long as Vader popped up at the end. I never said it was perfect or amazing...but Its light years ahead the prequels in every way but music.....prequels had some bangers. So how about you just pretending that movies 1-3 were about anything else other than selling toys and video games because that's where the real money comes from.
@BabysitterSky5 жыл бұрын
@Jimb0 Are toys and merchandising involved? Absolutely. Were they made FOR that purpose? I don't think so. You know how many star wars games were made for force awakens? 0. You know how many were made for and were out BEFORE phantom menace? 3. You know why Padme changed clothes 12 times in Attack of the Clones? Because that's 12 different toys you had to buy. Why was there a new villain in each movie? Ooohhh because more toys and t-shirts. Have I made my case yet?

@Jimb0 What was the point of phasma? What was the point of boba fett? Hey let's stop Episode 1 dead in its tracks for 25 minutes so we can have a space NASCAR scene. Star Wars fans are some of the biggest crybabies on the internet. Seriously, what the fuck? This movie is great... And as for Rey knowing the force and knowing how to fight... She wasn't doing front flips, force pushing, or doing crazy light saber moves? She had melee training with her staff(those 2 thugs she owned) My favorite star wars movie, 9/10 IMO
@FermiToll9 жыл бұрын
+Elias Gonzalez Suuuure a staff is the same as a light saber, in theory a weapon EXCLUSIVE of jedis that requires training since childhood, She is also super good as a pilot, super good in mechanics as Han Solo, super good aiming with blaster pistols, she does everything super fine without even trying... So much you can learn being an orphan inthe desert. GIRL POWER! SWJs be happy. The truth the movie is not bad but i don't see anythign amasing or surprising.
@tealGalaxy9 жыл бұрын
+FermiToll Ability with a staff doesn't directly translate to skill with a lightsaber, but a melee weapon is a melee weapon and certain things overlap. More importantly, however, it's always been made a point by Jedi that the force has a lot to do with skill with a lightsaber. The ability to gain glimpses into the future allows increased reflexes and faster action, so when you add Rey's obviously powerful connection to the force and her ability with a staff (and the skills that would overlap), you get an obvious reason for her to be skilled with a lightsaber. I mean really, even watch what she does. No flips, no flourishes, basic parries and thrusts for the most part with a few swings. Anyone with a basic understand of melee combat can do that. As for her ability in other things. It's established early on that she has a great interest in flying. She has an old rebel helmet -- a sign of her passion, obviously spends a lot of time taking apart and fiddling with aircraft due to her status as a scavenger, and is shown piloting various craft before the reveal that she's a talented pilot. As for the ability with a blaster, please. Point and pull the trigger. She's not doing any sharp shooting, all the targets she hits are within a few feet of her, and when she makes her first few shots she misses. Of all the things you may question in this movie, Rey's ability and her talents aren't really one of them. As for the stupid passive-aggressive "SWJ" comment. 1) SJW, if you're going to get on the bandwagon please get on properly, and 2) if your response to a strong female character with an established number of strengths is to instantly cry "SJW corruption", you're the problem.

Josh B I think some blame falls on Abrams. He tried to act as if TLJ was a concept he was told to loosely follow instead of a part of the franchise, so he tried to make 2 movies into 1 and as a result it didn’t feel like the finale, it was, rushed, there were confusing ideas, it was mismatched and it would’ve just been better to continue from TLJ, so he could make a coherent story and most of the blame would be on Rian Johnson.

The prequels have not aged well at all over the years while on the other hand, TFA will age very well over the next couple decades. To add on, although there was a lot of reused ideas, TFA succeeded in creating a fairly good story. I cannot say the same for the prequels at all. It's certainly not as good as the originals, but give it credit. Come out of your cave of nostalgia.

I feel like starkiller base would be better pulled off if they saved it for Episode 9 and have rumors of it being built being revealed by Finn in episode 7. Then Leia would be able to send off Poe to investigate and we could have had a cool subplot for Poe to return to throughout the trilogy, leading up to a Starkiller base finale which would also set the stage for the final confrontation between Snoke and Luke and Kylo and Rey. I feel like that would be a better application for the Starkiller base storyline.
@Slamjim9 жыл бұрын
Agreed that would be a better use of Starkiller base, but I feel in Episode 9, the payoff wouldn't be too exciting. Everyone would just be like "oh its just another Death Star". I say get rid of the whole "Death Ray Base" thing and come up with a new weapon.
@jazzx2519 жыл бұрын
+domxthexdon "A New Hope" successfully introduced the Death Star and had it beaten in the same movie, with the most epic space battle scene (and arguably any type of battle scene since "Zulu Dawn"). The whole movie was about the terrifying Death Star, and how the rebel alliance was possibly going to bring it down. And it was touch-and-go all the way until the end. The final battle was a masterpiece that will probably never be bettered in Star Wars. Apart from Poe, I didn't get to know any of the other pilots as they assaulted the "star capacitor" (my term) ... whereas in New Hope .. you got to know Wedge and Biggs and Red Leader, just from that one scene - because it was long enough and involving enough to care about what they were doing. I agree with you that sucking up a star's power is such an immense technological achievement, that it should have been a slow burner (no pun intended!) - something as immense as that should have been the entire focus of maybe the second movie, and our heroes must try to stop it etc.

I feel like it wasn't really necessary to have a bigger newer Death Star, but I would've been ok with it if instead of blowing it up again, they destroyed it's weaponry or something like that. Then the Resistance would be on a race against the clock to recover Luke and kill Snoke before the First Order rebuilds the super laser. Leading up to a very sweet final confrontation in episode 9.

+Mykill Molina Thank you! A lot of people are saying Kylo only killed Han for the shock of the audience and that it didn't have any build-up. From the moment he was talking to Vader, we learn he's still struggling with the Light side, and that shot with his face divided in colours really pays off.

Chris, did you hear the theory about why they built what was functionally a new Death Star, with the same weakness as before? It basically states that Snoke built it in order to have the same thing happen to it that happened twice before - to draw Luke Skywalker into trying to destroy it, therefore revealing himself during his exile. It makes the whole idea of rebuilding the Death Star quite brilliant.
@thomashall67339 жыл бұрын
+Darragh Tate actually that is a really good theory. but the problem is that it's not 100% reliable because han was in the base and even without luke, it's possible that the rebels could have figured that out on their own.

***** Wasn't the point of it to run on the OT's coattails? What with all the mythologising of the OT's events and everything. Besides, they introduced enough new storylines for the next two movies to have little to nothing to do with the IV-VI. I know why you're angry, remakes are utter crap, but this is not a remake. The characters are new and not ripoffs, time has moved on, things are noticeably different. Only the very basics are the same like the droid with the message and the Death Star.
@DarthRushy9 жыл бұрын
***** I agree with you on the fun watch and pretty exciting, but I wasn't disappointed at all in the end. To me, the characters felt new, the story was more of a continuation than a remake(in fact, if you think about it, Return Of The Jedi is a remake too, yet nobody says so). It introduced enough new things for me to be really into it, the Han Solo death scene was magnficient and I really liked the cast. Considering how crap blockbusters tend to be nowadays, TFA did an amazing job bringing Star Wars back with panache. It felt new again for me, whilst the other movies, as great as they are, are burned into my skull.

+Candy Vegetables and darkness No, but R2 units can scan for specific lifeforms and/or objects (R2 scans for Luke's lifesigns in _The Empire Strikes Back_) It's more than likely that Luke used the Force to tell R2 to shut down until he detected Rey or detected Luke's lightsaber in close proximity. It's the only way Luke could be certain his whereabouts would be revealed to the right person.

After seeing it 3 times, I love the new cast. That was by far my favorite aspect of this film. Especially Rey and Kylo Ren. I love how Kylo (Ben) was so powerful in the force, but was clearly young, arrogant, bratty, and over confident in himself. The final lightsaber battle between Kylo, Finn, and Rey was top 3 lightsaber battles in all of Star Wars. I love the use of the old characters, especially Han. I felt that Han's exit was handle brilliantly. I really liked that Kylo has that constant battle of light and dark going on within him and his dynamic between Hux and Snoke. I rank it as my 2nd favorite in the entire saga, tied with A New Hope. I genuinely felt like it was the best possible way to enter back into this world. And no, I'm not Phantom Menacing this. I've seen it 3 times and have judged it as fairly as I judge any film. My only problems were the fact that Starkiller base was just another Death Star and that Phasma was underused. Beyond that, it's a near perfect film
@sinisterkiid23019 жыл бұрын
And I just have to say that I HATE when people complain about how Rey was able to basically defeat Kylo. Kylo was clearly very powerful but not trained with a saber very well and was already damaged from Chewie's blaster. Also, I don't believe he was trained well with a saber. If I had to guess, I'd say that Luke teaches mostly about the force and how important it is instead of with a saber. Also, they established on Jakku that Rey was skilled in combat when she took those guys out with her staff.
@sinisterkiid23019 жыл бұрын
(God there's so much I have to say about this movie) and also, I loved that they didn't just blatantly explain everything about the first order and the resistance and Luke and blah blah blah. They didn't need to. They didn't in the originals do I don't get why I'm hearing some complaints about them not explaining enough. They're playing the long game and if they gave us everything in episode VII, there would almost be no point in an episode VIII. And the final thing I will say, is... that was hands down the best final scene in ANY Star Wars movie.

Did everyone miss that the title of the film is "The Force Awakens"?. In summary, to me, it means that suddenly the last Jedi was no more. The force awoke inside living beings to create some sort of balance. That would be why Rey and Finn felt some sort of force within themselves. Without training. Like "Cavemen", they knew, but was not finalsed.
@legendofthefall70828 жыл бұрын
Fronz Clownz That's not how the Force works though. People who are "force sensitive" simply have the potential to connect with the force and attune themselves with it, but the actual connection is something that only comes with practice and training. It has always been like this. If you're going to change the most fundamental elements of Star Wars then stop calling it Star Wars.

Re-watching this after watching the Rise of Skywalker, I have to agree that Force Awakens is the best motion picture of the this trilogy. To be honest I didn't particularly like any of them. However, I still have a major problem with something you say in this review. The way you brush aside the complaints about the similarities between this movie and the originals as people "not making up their minds" is so easy and unfair. I disliked this movie because it was too similar to the originals in terms of STORY. I, like most people I think, wanted something similar in terms of TONE, PACING, FEELING, VISUALS, etc. but that doesn't prevent you from writing an original story instead of re-hashing the same one we've already seen before. There were a million directions they could've gone in while maintaining the elements I mentioned above but noooo. They had to bring back the Falcon and another Death Star and another Cantina scene and another kid stuck on a desert planet and so many other beats and story elements. I don't like it because it's a waste of time and a missed opportunity.

I think what's even worse is how it ruins the legacy of the original trilogy. Think about it, what was the point of the rebellion defeating the empire if thirty years later the galaxy would be just how it was before, with an organization with TIE fighters and stormtroopers being the main power in the galaxy and a rebellion movement with x wings and y wings fighting against it. It makes zero sense because why would the "ashes of the empire have a weapon 100x the size of the death star and HOW THE HELL WOULD THE NEW REPUBLIC NOT STOP IT. And also what's the point of the resistance if there's a new republic? They sacrificed any sort of sense and creativity just so they could rip off the original. And for that reason this is my second least favorite SW movie. Only above The Rise of Shitwalker.

+MaJuV My theory is that R2D2 was in hibernation until Rey's Force Awakens. I have to see it again, but I don't think he woke up until she was gaining power. I'm pretty sure Rey is Luke;s daughter. R2D2 had the missing piece needed to find her father and only she could trigger him to wake up. Luke knew that when the force awoke in her, trouble was ahead and it was time for training. Luke left when Han and Leigh had Kylo. He could feel the weakness in him and knew he had to die or train until the Force Awakens and defeat the dark side.
@Curt_Randall9 жыл бұрын
my theory is that Luke planted the lightsaber with Maz as a test. If the force called to anyone and brought them to it, then he would know they were worthy of training. That person of course was Rey. After that happened and Rey realized the force was strong in herself, Luke allowed R2 to open the door to him.

We need a strong female Jedi? Why? A Jedi has to be female for other women to relate to her? Very close minded. Star Wars isn't about race or gender, but from the looks of his interviews JJ doesn't realize that. Political correctness will be the downfall of cinema. I don't need a black Jedi to feel empowered. I don't need a male Jedi to relate to a character. Rey is a badass character who happens to be a female. Stop bringing focus to gender/race

+il100374 Its just nice to see minorities in such roles rather than a full white cast, and males as the leads, like most American movies used to have. I don't think he means they included rey and finn just to appeal to minorities. But America is supposed to be a melting pot and its nice for heros not to all be white males all the time because that's not the ideals of America.
@Kalleosini9 жыл бұрын
+il100374 I can't like this statement enough. if people can't relate to a human being on screen because they don't look like themselves, it's not the movie that did something wrong, it's just the person being narrow minded.
@befru9 жыл бұрын
Billybohilly Variety is good since it keeps things interesting. The problem is that many people are going out of their way to include at least 1 of each minority type when making advertisements or movies just so they can be politically correct. I'm sure they intended for the main character to be a strong female from the very first day of writing the script. It actually worked really well in this movie.
@befru9 жыл бұрын
황원 The pro-minority are racist if they only support someone just because the person belongs to a minority race. My point is that discriminating for someone because of race is just as bad as discriminating against someone. People shouldn't get special treatment or privileges just because they are a minority. Everyone should be treated equally.

1. I don't agree with Han Solo's death. I would agree that Kylo Ren should kill him but I think their relationship should've had more depth! Not just "I saw him. That's Him. BEN!!!! Help me. DEAD!" All that about Harrison Ford being old and he not wanting to be in it anymore, I mean... those are justifications outside of the story. I'm in to see a story, I don't care that "well, he was old we needed to kill the character however we could because you know, he's 72 now." Make him OLD in the movie then! Don't try to bring him back as the same Han Solo we knew from the older movies! Don't Just KILL HIM without building depth into the story of Kylo and himself! It's a big f'ing deal that Kylo is his SON!!!! 2. I loved Rey, I just thought she was using the force too quickly. Lack of character development in my opinion. That scene where she's fighting against Kylo and finds the force... I mean. Come on? hehe... That was cheesy. 3. Loved the reveal of the Falcon. Awesome! 4. I wasn't and am never a fan of comedy during big action sequences as in Marvel movies and this movie has it. I HATE IT. I am not against comedic relief in movies, I just hate them when you are in the middle of almost getting killed!!! 5. I don't complain about being too close to a New Hope, BUT... really? this is the 3rd movie in which the final sequence is about exploding _____ STAR! Overall I liked the movie. It's fun. Well directed. Looks beautiful. I like the ending. I like that Luke is this mysterious character now. The actors are great. A bit over the top at times, but yeah... I wouldn't give an A. For me it's a solid B. (PD, I'm not a Star Wars fan at all... I just watched the entire saga for the first time a couple of weeks ago, so my comments are very objective.)

+Francisco Sanchez BTW, thanks for the reviews. You're awesome.
@thibaldus39 жыл бұрын
+Francisco Sanchez THat's not the only thing that was unoriginal, predicable and underdevelloped. The plot is a complete duplicate of Episode IV with a "rebellion" fighting an Emperor-like ruler of an "Empire" with a planet destroying mega ship that has one weakness to destroy it. This is not a continuation. It's a repeat. Let's recap, shall we? There's a new Empire, only it's called The First Order. There's a new Rebel Alliance, now called The Resistance. Han Solo is a smuggler again. Leia is a rebel leader again. A cute robot is given important information and everyone is after him. Again. A young, disaffected, orphan resident of a desert planet learns Jedi skills. Again. There's a weapon that can destory a planet. Again. Again. Because Lucas already did this twice. In order to gain information they go to an alien filled cantina. Again. And for some reason, Gollum is the supreme evil in the galaxy. The hero meets a wise old figure (Obi wan/Han solo) who has a very close relationship to the main villain (Vader/Kylo) and the villain kills him as a twist. Zero originality The "new" material? Meh. I like the idea of a stormtrooper who can't take it anymore and deserts, but the way that role was written didn't work. Finn did not seem like a character programmed from birth to kill. He seemed like someone's whacky cousin from a Will Ferrell movie. The film alternated between un-involving acton set pieces and utter creative bankruptcy. There were bright spots, like the acting for example. All of the new cast members are terrific. But even the best actors can't make old material new again. Maybe the most disappointing "sequel" I've ever seen. I guess the best way to catter to fans is to give them exactly what they've already seen.

I just don't see why others must tell you you're stupid for either liking it or disliking. Why take the enjoyment out of others?
@jakandratchet99308 жыл бұрын
Shinji the Dog who knows? The Star Wars fandom is honestly quite embarrassing to be a part of. I don't understand why people can't keep an open mind about their opinion. They also need to be fair and realistic about it. If one enjoys the movie, they enjoy it. But if one finds it disappointing, they find it disappointing. Nothing wrong with either of that. But when people start bashing others for having a different opinion, telling them they shouldn't like it, or rudely insults others, making rude, and uncalled for remarks about it, that's when it gets unbelievably stupid. Some of the reasonings also feel petty, such as Kylo Ren's facial appearance under the mask, I even found someone calling Adam Driver a terrible actor for Kylo Ren, just because of his appearance. I didn't see one criticism about the perfomance or portrayal itself. No critique about the facial expressions, tone of voice, nothing like that. If someone is gonna criticize an actors perfomance, or more fairly critique it, they need to brings some points about the perfomance for what it was. Such as facial expressions, body language, tone of voice, etc. Those are things that one should critique about during any performance, if one is to talk about something like that, not the physical appearance itself. But for more examples, of how unbelievable some claims are, I recommend checking out I Hate Everything's video regarding some unfair hate it's getting, and how even more unfair hate people who may like it are getting. He has a lot of good points he put out there, such as that it's fine to like or dislike The Force Awakens, and some things he could understand that may take them out of the movie, or not like about it. I'm also really glad I watched his video, it also inspired me to understand those fundimental basic details of filmmaking (pacing, cinematography, writing, acting, the way the score is used), most of those I really liked about the film, but I never understood the basics of the details, till I tried to understand some of what he meant. Either way, I was definitely glad I watched that video. I never really understood why Force Awakens got some overhate, and I never realized how far it went till I saw that video, and showed some examples. But after watching that, I watched the movie again, and despite the recycled plot, I still really enjoyed it, and thought it was quite well done. It's something I really enjoy watching, and like looking at each time. I like doing the same with all Star Wars movies, good or bad. Anyway, I'm probably rambling on now, it happens a lot, but I'm glad I get it off my chest when needed.
@shinjithedog24998 жыл бұрын
Yeah I watch I Hate Everything as well. I hater the movie for the recycled plot,boring protagonist,BB-8,over abundance of comedy and how Disney said the expanded universe(books,comics,videogames) are no longer canon yet still took those ideas and made them there own. I just won't be seeing any of the new Star Wars movies as I know I won't like them.
@jakandratchet99307 жыл бұрын
Shinji the Dog I really like the movie for its acting and blend with the old and new cast, the facial expressions and body language in my opinion have never been better in a Star Wars movie, the cinematography, how the settings are made and how they look, to me it also had a charming sense of humour even if it's found overused, and finally I love the new characters. They have the right personality traits and nice introductions, and the actors show them, and capture them nicely. The combined elements of the cinematography, acting, and how the score is used, and sound quality, the combined aspects really can make a scene. They can add a suspenseful tone to what's about to happen, and how it does happen. Along with a heartwarming tone in certain scenes where the characters are seeing new things, such as Rey, Finn, and Han making a stop, and Rey seeing how lovely the planet looked. Along with Rey and Finn reuniting. I personally disagree with BB-8 though, while I respect that you don't like him, I personally find him adorable. The way he can move, uses all of his little gizmos, how he shows his mood, by being able to move his head in addition to the cute little noises he makes. I just found his personified gizmos cool. Though these are more on how it's made. The best elements in my opinion are the cinematography, settings, acting, balanced sounds with what's going on, as well as acting the scenes and situations out. I also find the characters likeable and relatable, for their situations, and others interesting with their motives. Finn being frightened at seeing how cruel and merciless the First Order is, and deciding to turn a new leaf, and help Poe out. But after believing Poe is dead, leaves off with nothing else to fight for, until he runs into Rey. Rey shows a strong willed and independent personality, who can stand up for herself, but is also compassionate and empathetic. While others have her mixed feelings about her, I think she has the right personality traits, and that Daisy Ridley shows them really well, especially when the character is in an emotional situation. I personally find that she had the best performance in the movie. I thought all the main stars were good. Sure the panting by John Boyega in his first like 10 maybe 15 minutes was a bit excessive and distracting, I know he was anxious and all, and emotionally traumatized, so granted him in that situation is understandable, even if it was distracting and excessive. But later on, he kept it to a minimum to focus on the other things he was going through. Especially as he faces his fears, against that Stormtrooper, and Kylo Ren. He was mostly at his best during the last half, he was also good around Rey, where he was starting to meet her and with her to escape. Oscar Issac was good too, sure his lines may have sounded kinda monotone to me, or slower paced than I felt could've been, but I still thought he delivered some of his other lines fine, especially the enthusiasm and compassionate and friendly side of the character. But his strong point to me was his body language and facial expressions in the situations he was in. Like when he was captured, and going up against Kylo Ren. Like I said, I think the facial expressions and body language were at their best in Force Awakens by most.

Honestly, that scene was still pretty bullshit. Kylo is a trained force user who's presumably been training nearly his entire life. Rey is a scavenger who is holding a lightsaber for the first time in her life. There is no way she would overcome him as easily as she did just by being reminded "the force exists." I mean she's just such a bullshit character. She outmatched Kylo in his whole mind-read thing in their second encounter without any training. Mind you, he's been doing that shit for ages probably. Then she learns Jedi mind-trick in less than minute, something that Luke three movies WITH TRAINING! Then she wrestles the lightsaber from Kylo's force grip with the Force. She's just so perfect and infallible it got seriously noticeable on repeated viewings, even in between all the fan-service and great acting. Rey is just bullshit, and they better justify some shit in the next movie.

+SmashBrosSieger Nope. I hate political correctness and I hate feminism, but I can tell you are wrong on this. JJ Abrams just likes female characters. He made Felicity and Alias, both super popular series featuring female characters. Literally every other character who does something significant in the movie is a male. Captain Phasma hardly counts as she has almost no screen time. Rey does not need training to do things well because she is naturally stong with the force, just like how Anakin was able to pilot pod racers when no other human on the planet could.... and he was age 10. It is not bad writing, it is in fact very thoughtful writing. I for one, am glad that we have a main character who is actually strong for once. Having your main character be weak and stupid and slowly growing to become strong is soo cliche and overdone.

+shmaveyea Rey is the definition of a Mary Sue. In A New Hope, Luke was a complete liability until the end of the movie. He was saved at least 6 times, and didn't do anything significant until the very end of the movie (even then he was backed up by two of arguably the best pilots in the entire SW universe). Luke had two skills that he was moderately good at. 1. marksmanship and 2. piloting. He sure as hell couldn't do half the things Rey could do.

A New Hope set up a world and introduced us to new characters so well. Going back to Chris' review of ANH, he mentioned that he thought it was a great idea to not introduce Luke until later in the movie, like they did here with Rey. TFA borrowed the element very cleverly, I thought. These are just my thoughts, but I don't think TFA should be as heavily criticized as it is for being similar to A New Hope. Great review as usual, Chris!

At first I thought that how Kylo Ren got defeated was lame. But now that I think about it, I agree with what you say. To those who say this movie is racist because Finn is such a 'coward'. Not every character has to be perfect. Look at where he started, he was a strormtrooper who didn't agree with the first order's ideals, he already has a very cruel life. He wants to quit, but he is forced to join the fight even though he doesn't want to. Some people might argue that Rey is a stronger character than Finn because she is a girl, look where she was. She is an orphan who was forced to lived on Jakku who always had the sense that she could do more. She is forced to be independent and collect scrap for food. When people compare Rey to Finn, you have to think about where the characters were at the time. Finn was in a more emotionally disorganized state than Rey when they first met. But in the second act, Rey too is becoming emotionally challenged in a sense. And at the end she stops running from Kylo Ren and uses the force in a way that Kylo Ren can't, in a calm manner.
@Bryan-dr5qy9 жыл бұрын
And in the end Finn changes as well, Finn also stops running and stands up to Kylo Ren even though he knows he can't win. This is his character arc. It's ok to havea character this way so long as they evolve at the end like Luke in the original trilogy.

I do not think Finn is a coward. He just did not want to have anything to do with wars and murders anymore. Cannot really blame him. It does not mean he is a coward.
@johngun74189 жыл бұрын
rey really shouldn't be more competent than Finn since he was trained since he was young in combat. being a scavenger having to survive by yourself doesn't necessarily make you a great fighter. And no its not because she's a girl that I think that(not saying that to you specifically but people assume)
@michaelfires48279 жыл бұрын
"being a scavenger having to survive by yourself doesn't necessarily make you a great fighter" Not necessarily, but skilled to some degree it does. Finn was trained since he was young, yes, but his first battle was at Jakku and look how that turned out. It took a lot for him to actually step up and use all the training he had. And even then he utterly failed against Kylo. Which is completely logical.

@nicosimioni7363 Жыл бұрын
At least Episode VIII has its moments, but IX is insufferable from beginning to end. By far the worst of the nine, imo. It's so true that now we appreciate the prequels a lot more. They may have a lot of issues, but I 100% respect the fact that it's the pure vision of the creator of the franchise. A mess at times, but at least they were made with passion and love. I watched them again fairly recently and I enjoyed the crap out of them.

When Kylo Ren kills Han I so wanted the dialog to go: "I love you" Han solo said. "I know." Kylo Ren said, a tear rolling down his cheek. He activated the light saber ripping the light side from his heart and with it the life of his father. Han Solo looks in to his son's eyes for the last time and gently reaches up and pats him on the cheek his thumb wiping away the tear.

+ayleelya It sounds nice on paper, but that would have been an incredibly cheap and unoriginal way to pay homage to the original, it would have soured one of the most iconic and beloved lines in film history. Literally rewatching those movies would ruin those lines since all you would be able to think about would be this death scene. Plus, it was already rehashed in ROTJ, I think it would have added insult to injury using it a third time.

It's like people don't realize this movie is part of a TRILOGY. If everything was explained in The Force Awakens WHAT WOULD BE THE POINT OF HAVING TWO MORE MOVIES!!? Having unanswered questions is a GOOD thing. If the Emperor wanted to turn Anakin to the dark side he should have just made him read the KZbin comments section on these Star Wars videos. The hate is strong with these people.

Apply that judgement to the Phantom Menace and ask yourself if it was a good movie or not. You will say it sucked because that's what everyone says and it doesn't matter what's in the next movie because the movie itself was bad. But you won't apply that logic to this move you fucking hypocrite.
@CommanderDragonLily9 жыл бұрын
Seena Zabihi First off, take a high school level English class before you try and use words like hypocrite, amateur. I thought this movie was good. So I disagree with people who thought it was a bad movie. And I was addressing the point of everyone bitching about unanswered questions, saying that it's a good thing to have questions after the first movie in a trilogy. You didn't even address my point and then proceeded to make yourself sound like an idiot.
@legendofthefall70829 жыл бұрын
+TheShockmaster I did address your point but nice bait and switch to cover up the fact that you're a hypocrite. One of the biggest criticisms of Phantom Menace (which I think is an average movie btw) is that it doesn't do enough to answer questions about the origins of the SW timeline. But when people criticize The Force Awakens in the same way, idiot fanboys like you come out in droves to claim that you need to give the trilogy time to develop before judgement. Treating one movie with a different set of standards than another movie but still comparing them by calling one good and the other shit is hypocrisy by defintion. Sit down and shut the fuck up.
@CommanderDragonLily9 жыл бұрын
Listen hun. TFA is better that the Phantom Menace, so I'm not using a different set of standards. We can look at the prequels as a whole and see that many of the main questions were never answered. You have to be patient and wait for the next two to come out before you can say the same thing about this trilogy. And please look up the definition of hypocrisy. I know you probably like to use strong words like that just because it makes you feel intelligent. I'm sorry to say, but you are, in fact, a dumbass. Goodbye.

Rey was so suddenly able to defend Kylo Ren because, not only had he just fought and defended Finn, she had already been shown being a formidable fighter way back when Unkar Plutt sent his three goons to steal BB-8 from her, and she wiped them ALL out in quick succession. Whether she's using a long metal staff or a lightsaber, having raised herself completely alone on the scavenging world of Jakku, she's obviously learned to defend herself well enough to survive in such a harsh and unforgiving environment. I'm actually convinced that JJ Abrams decided to include that scene of Rey whoopin' the SHIT out of those guys so her apparent strength during her final fight against Kylo Ren would be more credible. The Force Awakens in her, making her even more formidable than she was originally, which was pretty bad ASS from the start. Awesome movie, far from perfect, but awesome nonetheless. 👍😊

Thank you, finally someone understands!!! Everyone complains about how she was "overpowered" and "barely trained" yet somehow was as powerful as kylo ren. That's the point...they are a dyad, equally as strong as the other, and around five minutes ago, kylo got shot by chewie, was still emotionally unbalanced by just killing his father, got his arm injured by finn, and altogether wasn't even trying to kill rey in the first place. So ofc she had more advantage in this fight lol. And as you said, she already knew combat with her staff making her basically kind of self trained.

We bonded over those and now we can bond over this new one! I can kind of understand why people say its very similiar to a New Hope but its Star Wars! There will be jedis, light saber battles, and the old characters! Of course it'll be similiar because JJ Abrams is a smart director! There are plenty of new fresh ideas in this movie too and it all blends so well together! He did really well with the new Star Trek movies and I have faith that he'll continue to do well with these movies!

+Abel Juarez The movie's brand new and everyone's wearing their nostalgia goggles right now. I walked out of the theatre thinking this movie was fun, but rather lazy. The slow moments were it's not cutting from action beat to action beat were seeping with melodrama. Whoever in The First Order thought the new deathstar was a good idea should have been killed right away. How would that sales pitch have gone anyways? "We know the empire's plan of a giant sphere of death failed, twice. So how about we do the exact same thing as they, only _bigger_." The movie's a lot of fun, way better than Phantom Menace but it steals whole plot points from New Hope. To me it's a 6/10 when taking the originals into account. If this was a standalone, or someone's first time in the Star Wars universe, I'd give it an 8/10.
