Basically the island it was filmed on in Ireland has all these protected birds on it called Puffins. They couldn't touch them so they added them into the film with these porg characters.

Yeah, but the problem for me it's that by being that way, he reminds me of Hayden Christensen, which it's something I am trying to forget. There is plenty of space between 'stoic and badass' and 'whinny and temperamental'. I really wish they would have gone for something more in between. He is one of the things I don't really like about these new SW films. I hope that he grows a little bit in this one or there is a twist where he stops being the main villain of this trilogy by either switching sides or getting killed.

Nah, the twist should be he kills Snoke in the final film and becomes the main villain. Think about it, he wants to be like Vader, and the natural conclusion to such a goal is killing the mentor. But there's the difference, whereas Vader killing Palpatine was his redemptive act, Kylo killing Snoke will plunge him fully into the abyss. It's a cool idea for this new trilogy, rather than having the hero be the only one train and grow whereas the villain just stays at where they are in terms of power, this can be a movie series where both hero and villain grow in power until their final confrontation.

Oh he can act. To be fair, so can Christensen (watch Shattered Glass) but no matter what your level of acting skill was, there was no escaping Lucas' horrible writing and directing. Driver is good. I just wished he didn't behave like Anakin so much. I guess they are going for that angle of him repeating the sins of the grandfather :(

Felippe - AGREED. And its SO OBVIOUS what his character is going through. Kylo Ren is a badass. He is powerful as hell, look at how he stopped that laser blast mid air and how he pulled thoughts out of people. It didn't matter, he still is nowhere near as powerful as Vader was. He tried to copy him and become what his grandfather was and he couldn't do it. He is LITERALLY a poser. He is not fully trained and has temper tantrums and STILL feels too much to be the Sith he wants to be. That is VERY good writing for a character. Its deep. Its even meta, how can the new big baddie possibly compare with The DARTH VADER. Also how can TFA compare to Star Wars. It can't... But it will do its best to try. It makes total sense.

I often hear comments about repeated beats with each new SW movie and I wonder how it applies to other long running franchises; seven films under their belt and at least 3 more on the way. To me familiar beats are what define a franchise: James Bond, Star Trek, F&Furious, Saw, etc. Personally I really like it in SW, but I love cover songs too.

I feel like this trilogy is about repeating history over making history. (I hope I'm wrong with this.) I'm feeling like this trailer feels very safe. Star Wars IV-VI was like the Lord of the Rings. (Traditional storytelling with some twist) Star Wars I-III was like the Hobbit. (The prequel was not as good as the original) Star Wars VII-IX should of been like a more action version of Game of Thrones(evolution of Lord of the Rings) but pg 13 version of it. (Peace before the changing era/dynasty) Or ask the question like how would the Skywalker's rule(Or someone else or another family) the New Republic? What are the problems and issues that could collapse the New Republic?How would they have treat the ex-Galactic Empire people? How was George RR Martin able to not repeat Lord of the Rings? He ask and answer different type of questions for his series. Repeating history is why Ted 2, Anchorman 2, Die Hard 2, Zoolander 2 etc weren't as great as the original. Repeating history feels like traditional bad Hollywood sequel. Learning from another franchise or other properties doesn't require it to be in the billion dollar department. When Flash Gordon and Akira Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress influence Star Wars IV, they were not billion dollar franchise. Where is the non Star War influence? (Or add something new to the Star Wars mythology) Repeating theme is one thing. (The writer have to figure out a different view point, situation, motivation, and logic to go where the theme never went to) Repeating plot point and beat by beat on another script is another. The feel of the film will feel samey to people who know the property very well. (It doesn't affect people who are new or causal to the franchise) If they made a new Lord of the Rings 2 trilogy like what they did with Star Wars: Force Awaken, how many people would be happy about that? I feel like Kathleen Kennedy could be what D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are to Game of Thrones. Very good at adapting but not so good if they have to start from scratch. They know the surface parts of the series and not the philosophy of the series.

Between the gorilla walkers (*cough* AT-ATs *cough*), to the shots on a frozen planet, to an old, reclusive, and eccentric Jedi master reluctantly teaching a powerful pupil the ways of the force on a remote system in the galaxy, to the cave scene (which it appears they're doing again) where the padawan in training faces themselves and their inner demons, to a powerful dark force wielder offering an alliance to the jedi protagonist, it all just feels like Empire all over again. The whole point with Kylo Ren is that he desperately wants to be a Sith like Vader, but it's just not in his nature. He was seduced by Snoke because he was strong with the force but is unable to fully use the dark side. I'm guessing he will turn away from Snoke and he, along with Rey, will become grey Jedi. "The Last Jedi" probably refers to them becoming neither Sith nor Jedi, but one with the whole force by embracing the light and the dark.

I think as far as being unique, and having an unexpected cultural impact (like A New Hope did) Guardians Of The Galaxy is more like classic Star Wars than New Star Wars is. *And before any die-hard fanboys rage at me, let me explain what I mean...* Disney can copy the originals all they want, but copying the impact of the original Star Wars is something else entirely. GOTG came closer because (like A New Hope) it was a surprise hit. NOBODY expected it to work. Now the characters are household names. In fact, the Marvel films in general have done more to change cinema than the new Star Wars. Marvel's impact on big franchises and pop-culture is undeniable. And they built it all on characters that (before 2008) the mainstream didn't care about. GOTG, like it or hate it, in terms of being it's own kind of space adventure, there's no other modern movie like it. That used to be Star Wars before it exploded and became a multi-billion dollar product. Now, people will go see it just because it's called Star Wars. The trailer was cool, but so was Force Awaken's... I just don't think I care anymore :/

This is how I see it regarding spoilers. YES major spoilers suck! But it’s not like what they spoiled was at the level of a “I am your father!” spoiler which is an example I use to describe what I would consider to be a major spoiler. If a film is a so called masterpiece it should easily rise above being ruined by any spoiler be they large or small. Don’t worry the quality of the movie will survive and remain intact for ages for you to enjoy over and over. The other thing is that the DT show for me represents more than just reviews, they are a superior show because they have been able to transcend beyond your typical YT review show by encapsulating their material within a layer of comedy and social commentary which is made all the more impressive when one takes into consideration the on the fly nature of their delivery. So yeah while I would rather not be spoiled i’m also not going to make a big deal out of ONE MINOR spoiler especially when they have provided years worth of quality entertainment FOR FREE and also because I just comprehend the structure of their show which allows for such free flowing word play all in the service of quality entertainment. I honestly think that Kylo Ren is more interesting as a character than Darth Vader was. Kylo has had more development in one movie and it took 6 movies to flesh out Vader.

Roy Fokker Darth Vader had character but not enough really to call him one while Kylo Ren is being conflicted like Anakin was except a little better than the previous guy from the prequels.

I couldn't disagree more. To me Kylo is Anakin from the prequels, which it's why he is my least favorite part of this new trilogy (he keeps reminded me of them), which it's a problem since he is the main villain. Really hoping that Snoke takes over that role in this new movie.

Ok did I miss some insane moment of development for Kylo in that movie bc he was literally the exact same person at the end of the movie... there wasn't any development at all for him unless you wanna count killing Han which I'm sorry was the most telegraphed obvious death scene I have ever seen. Like where did he change and develop did I miss something? Or is crying in front of a helmet (which makes no sense how he could possibly have it but whatever) seen as development now?

REBELS looks kiddie but it's been very enjoyable to my 30something self. It hearkens back to the original trilogy in a way that the second trilogy failed and Clone Wars cartoons couldn't.

This Movie doesn't look good and it doesn't seem to fit the original movies they just don't seem to blend it seems out of place and forced on us. Example Kylo doesn't act or is believable as the son of Lia and the grandson of VADER. Rey's power seems over the top and doesn't fit the original story's and Luke seems like he doesn't even want to be in this movie. LOL. They don't seem to blend cause they are just cheap copies of the first movies that came out.

I think I’ll enjoy the movie a lot. But I do wish they would do new things but they must wanna play things safe for a general audience. I liked Rogue One but like all my friends didn’t like it but enjoyed Force Awakens.

i wish the next star wars trilogy is set 100 years from the current movies....new cast new faces and new heroes...and for crying out loud no more sky walkers....its a huge galaxy...but feels like it all takes place in one planet or a damn backyard...everyone knows and runs to each other so easily like come on.

After seeing their reaction to the "Rebels" footage, I'd like to see them react to the final Obi-Wan/Darth Maul confrontation, all the way up to the end of that particular episode. Because yeah, while the style takes getting used to, the stories are still very well-told.

I'd say some of the best stuff from Star Wars is the 2008 Clone Wars show (movie's trash) and KOTOR 2 for giving the setting much more depth and nuance.

Im mixed between how I feel about this movie. On one hand I'm a little excite because its star wars but at the same time I wish they would do something new. They can bring new ideas from Star wars as there are many interesting stories they could bring from both new and old canon. The expanded universe is definitely a good source they could use or the knights of the the old republic. They keep making movie like trailers for those games so why not make them one as they have more interesting stories to tell than the same old shit again. As a star wars fan I hope they could change the formula.

Rey is the Darth Side Messiah and she will turn and kill Kylo Ren cause he will go to the light side cause he is to torn and confused about VADER and he will find out the truth that he got tricked by Snoke and Snoke is really after Rey to train her now that he knows she exist.

Rey is going to go through the whole Grey Jedi phase where she will want to know more about the darkside to find balance. She can find that through Kylo Ren, and he can learn more about the light through her. They both might end up being Grey Jedi, with one being more weight to one side than the other.
