To be fair, there's a lot Disney could do outside of the Skywalker Saga, but we aren't necessarily bored with Luke. There's interesting comics, books etc of his time after the Empire falls that are equally as interesting in my opinion. Disney are mostly just milking it to make money.

This scene made me cry tears of joy. I think calling Mark in again is the right call because he deserves to see Luke done right. He deserves to make the call about what to do with Luke because he IS Luke Skywalker. I think so long as he's involved with the whole thing as like a Luke mentor to Max, I'm all for it.

The only thing missing in this behind the scenes special is I wish they would have chatted with Max Lloyd Jones. I would have loved to hear how the experience was for him. He looked to be loving it though, right down to hanging with Grogu himself. And I do think they should bring him back as prime Luke should the story call for it.

I think his resemblance to Mark is close enough that they could make that work. Sebastian Stan is a closer match, but Max would do fine. One thing that could mess it up would be if his voice pitch was significantly off from Mark's.

2:52-2:57 Look at Grogu! The puppeteer keeps moving him and it's both hilarious and adorable. Aside that, I have to say that Max Lloyd-Jones gives me more Luke vibes than Sebastian Stan. There's something about his stance, his stillness, the way he moves. It's as if he'd internalized Luke's goodness, his patience, his spirit. And let's not talk about Luke's fighting style. Totally him! Calm, thorough, lethal. But even in lethal mode, there's peace within. I don't know if it's all in my mind, but that's what I'm feeling. The embodiment of a Jedi. And at 0:28-0:30, when he's passing his lightsaber to the other hand, look at his face under the hood. I swear he looks like Hayden Christensen.

i agree and tbh whether they get max lloyd-jones or someone else to play live action luke in the future, physical resemblance isn't the only thing that matters (even though they don't have to look exactly alike). it's also the way the actor carries himself when portraying the character. it makes sense for luke after rotj to have a more calm demeanor because he has matured and been through experiences that have taught him more patience as a jedi knight, and eventually jedi master. not only that, but the actor should also bring a certain warmth and kindness to the role because that's who luke is. having a new actor to play younger, post rotj luke is the way to go instead of cgi. the popular sebastian stan fancast doesn't work for me and i prefer the new actor for luke to not be heavily involved the mcu.

@@Jason75913 idk about that, since they plastered that cgi face over max and the script only called for him to interact a few minutes at most with the characters. so I wouldn't write say that performance itself was really lacking in warmth. there was a lot going on and the stand in actor could only model himself mostly off of what the directors told hamill to do. i did like seeing that gentle side of him more during the bts footage (like when he was soft with grogu, already way better than the deepfake puppet's stilted interactions in bobf) and the more calm way he carried himself during the fight scenes so it really comes down to the combination of acting, direction, writing. we won't know unless disney stops trying to resort to cgi/deepfake uncanny valley and takes a chance on new actors.

You just don't get it...If Luke isn't played by Mark Hamill or without Mark Hamill's voice and likeness then it just isn't Luke, it's Luke Skywalker in name only. You might as well create a different character at that point. Very few people would be able to buy into it mentally, because once you associate a face with a character it's very hard to separate the two. There's a reason they went through the trouble of making it look like Mark Hamill instead of just using the actor on set. Can you imagine if at the end of that epic scene he lifted his hood and it was just some dude who almost, sorta kinda resembles young Mark Hamill? The moment would have lost 99% of it's luster. Everybody knew it was Luke while he was fighting through the hallways, but what made the moment, and what made everybody gasp in excitement was when the hood came off and it was Mark Hamill's Luke. The technology will only get better and I believe they'll keep using it. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see a de-aged Harrison Ford show up as Han Solo in either Mando Season 3 or Book of Boba Fett

I love how they use the glowing "real" lightsaber props instead of the red sticks for rendering back in the day. Must give the actors and atmosphere a new realistic feeling. Also, how cool for them and Mark for him to be there. Amazing what star wars has become for people.

Moving forward, I would be okay with Max Lloyd-Jones helping to portray Luke in this time period. Max was involved in redeeming Luke from Kathleen and Co, so Max has my blessings as Luke. It's too bad that Mark is 70 now, but like the analogy Mark made wrt James Bond, sometimes you need to have several actors involved in order to fulfill the greater mission of keeping the character of Luke Skywalker going.

I´ve never been a Star Wars fan, such I am a Trekkie. But I love "The Mandalorian" and that final scene killed me. I burst into tears and don't really know why. Memories came back and all sorts of emotions and next thing I know I was crying. That doesn't happen often on TV. The funeral of Princess Diana was the last event that made me cry. Wow. I honestly wouldn't have minded them just using this young man as their actor, with no CGI. I won't know something about the whole CGI deepfake thing feels weirdly dystopian to me. As powerful as the nostalgia hit was, it's the character we ultimately care about, not the actor, and if an actor is able to deliver him as a well-written character, that's really what I'm here for. This feels more Luke to me than the entire sequel trilogy.

I agree that Max could play Luke Skywalker without the CGI face. The fact that he had only 10 minutes before he started shooting to figure out that he was playing Luke Skywalker, and convincingly played him, proves the high caliber of actor that he is. Most actors have at least several hours if not days or weeks to prepare for a role, and he performed it beautifully.

Disney needs to undo the vandalism they did to Star Wars. The third trilogy turned Luke into an emotionally damaged washout, then killed him, and pinned the future of the franchise on a weak female character that runs around humiliating male characters and never faces any meaningful challenges.

I love the way they made Max Lloyd-Jones look exactly like Mark Hamill he looks close enough it was an easy pull off with technology to transform him into Luke. I wonder how he felt that they didn't use his face And Mark was behind the scenes doing the movements that Max mimics, so it was Mark but not. I'm glad they gave Mark Hamill the opportunity to be part of this sense he was the star in the original movies. Kudos 👌👍 to great acting and technology that made it exciting entertainment

They don't look exactly alike. And they could have deepfaked it to be Mark whether there was resemblance or not.
