The trading card game market has been booming recently, with multiple properties actually having successful, thriving games, rivaling even the old guard. Not be left behind (especially if it can be lucrative), Fantasy Flight Games has released Star Wars Unlimited, a card game to fulfill all your Star Wars dreams! But this is not the first Star Wars TCG, as many have tried before and been lost to the sands of time. Will Star Wars Unlimited have what it takes to stand where so many others have fallen?

Regarding leaders, the current meta seems to indicate that a huge amount of the leaders (almost all of them) are quite viable in at least format. Additionally, because leader readiness speeds can vary greatly (anything from turn 3 to turn 7 so far) it very much changes the tempo of when leaders face each other. I really dig the leader mechanic because when the unit is out, it centralizes the conflict around that leader. But the game itself is so varied because as a whole it is not overcentralized around those leaders.

Great review! You bring up solid points and I share that same fear but I am hopeful it gains traction in the community. Having bought the starter set and a 24 booster box, I have a decent amount of cards to make a few decks and enjoy it even if it doesn't pop off but again, fingers crossed it does!

Amazing review! I completely agree with all of your points. Luckily for me I only really have 1 piece competing for my card game budget right now...and when I can actually get star wars boxes for reasonable prices (not like OP6 which is like $250) then I may have to shift to this game more

usually Yugi-oh is the third big one and these are the classics that have endured the test of time. I guess he refers to Flesh & Blood and Lorcana as the other two "big ones". But honestly, it is still way to early to say if either of those will make it past a couple of years and I assume they both will be out of print in 5-10 years.

@@amtk5163 I totally forgot that Yugi-oh existed. Goes to show how big the jump is even among the top 3 games in the genre. Right now, the biggest games seem to be: 1) Magic, 2) Pokemon, 3) Yugi-oh, 4) Lorcana, 5) One Piece (another game I didn't know was a thing), 6) Flesh & Blood...and there are a handful of others, like Sorcery and KeyForge (and now Star Wars Unlimited) that are trying to carve out their little niche.

Honestly, your final miss is the main reason I'm not interested in SW:Unlimited. I have enough SW games I'm playing on top of playing Magic regularly. Also I was a little burned by Destiny (and also Decipher's SW CCG) as well, so I'm going to stay out of the TCG for now.
