Actually, I think Tychus accepted the deal just to help Jim out...even if he wanted his freedom, he knew that Jim would have hunted him down to get his vengeance. Also, if Tychus really wanted to kill Kerrigan, I don't think he would have had any problems doing so without letting Jim react fast enough to save her and take him out. Since he knew he would never get the chance to be truly free, he simply chose to make the best use of his remaining life span: help his friend.

@Doctor Doc, MD in lore its to save energy. "helmut down" mode is apparently a high energy thing to do. Also it provides minimal protection, the main purpose is to provide an advanced combat hud for the wearer. obviously it would protect from rocks and punches, but not a gun as you see multiple times in cinematics marines getting domed through the helmet by bullets.

Throughout the campaign, Tychus always gave the personality of a battle-hardened war veteran tired of fighting and living as a slave for others. I think this was his way of saying goodbye at least on his own terms.

Tychus was letting Jim make the choice, he knew he wasn't the right person to decide on something that important. He gave him the opportunity and got dealt a bad hand. He could always reappear but I'm not sure you'd ever be able to continue to do his character justice working with the good guys. I think the story was a testament to his character, in the end he knowingly sacrificed himself for a cause his friend truly believed in.

@@alm5851 right but he did give Jim the choice. If Tychus REALLY wanted to kill Kerrigan, he would have done it the moment he had that sight on her forehead. You don't hesitate and pause for the kill, you go and take the shot as soon as you can. Tychus and Jim are good friends, but Tychus got stuck dealt a bad hand: Kill Kerrigan which sets him free, but betrays his friend, or don't and he is stuck in his "prison". Also, dickhead Mengsk is watching as well via Tychus' suit. The suit is rigged to kill Tychus on the spot under Mengsk's command. Tychus gave Jim the choice, hence the dialog they had.

Earlier in the game, Matt tells Raynor about why Tychus can't leave his suit, and they find out that its wired to all his major organs, so if Mengsk presses a button, he dies. In that situation, Tychus is a dead man anyway.

@@Broockle Nah, we've seen marines in and out of their armor before with no implants to control the suits. Raynor is one of them, actually (albeit former). There are implanted aggression inhibitors - though those aren't universal. Not all of the Marines are convicts. Even the Confederacy had only about a 50% criminal conscript rate.

If nobody hasn't note this, I'll tell you: You remember raynor wanted to kill Mengsk by his pistol, saving 1 shoot (you see this when he met valerian) And as tychus is controlled by Mengsk, we could say that, metaphoric, Raynor killed mengks, cause it wasn't really tychus ideas, just he had to follow orders or he dies. At the end yes, raynor "kills" mengsk dominion and give Tychus the wings of liberty And the second, when Raynor knew tychus made the deal with the devil, the conversation is two side meaning, they seems talking like raynor understod tychus choices and gonna kill him, and tychus seems like he was gonna kill kerrigan, but at the same time, when Raynor says "we all gonna our choices to make", he means the decision that tychus chose, knowing he signed his dead sentence. As tychus says: "Damm shame" you can see in his eyes sadness, as knowing he was going to die, so the phrase means it's a shame he has to die like that. At the end, that's the wings of liberty

Tychus is a true warrior. Walking into his own end knowingly, submitting to fate, and being loyal to his friend until the end. He served his purpose until the end, which he basically spent his last days of freedom helping Raynor to save Kerrigan. He redeemed his past and his honor. He will not be remembered, he will never be understood. For that makes Tychus Findlay even more honorable than any other Protoss.

Poor Tychus, as he said he made a deal with the devil, only difference between mengsk and the devil, is the devil at least keeps 'his' end of the bargain, Mengsk, he probably woulda pushed the button anyway just so that Jim would suffer even 'more' if he didnt die. That's why in my opinion first he 'hesitated' and waited so long, it wasn't a western showdown, if Tychus really wanted to kill Kerrigan, he coulda shot while Jim's guard was down, didn't need to 'ask' Mengsk if he was watching or not. Tychus gave up the deal with Mengsk, so that at least his friend would know 'why' he was doing what he was doing, and could hear the regret in his voice. Its like what Tychus said, he went to jail for jim, and Jim owed him, thats why Jim trusted him so much because he was his friend and trusted him with his life 'despite' his criminal record. Tychus went to jail while Jim got a new life as a Marshall, he knew he owed Tychus and wanted to help him out however he could, 'like old times'. So when it came down to the final moment, Tychus waited, waited as long as he could, gave Jim all the time he needed to react, and he only wanted his friend to know, he wasn't doing it because he wanted to, it was cause he had 'no choice'. Any man will pay 'any' price when their life is on the line, forget his freedom. So at the end, he chose to deny Mengsk his prize, a dead kerrigan while she's human and helpless, he chose the '3rd' option, die by his friend, rather than die by mengsk because he either broke the deal or because Mengsk decided to break the deal just to watch Jim suffer more. Plus i think Tychus knew, deep down perhaps, that the Kerrigan who was lying helpless and human, wasn't the Queen of Blades anymore, she was in essence 'a new woman', a different Kerrigan, not the butcher who slaughtered her allies when it was convenient, who betrayed 'everyone' who even dared to trust her, and slaughtered a retreating enemy who had no hope of fighting back. In HoTS, she isn't that queen of blades, she lets Warfield's men go after she's beaten them back and forced them to flee char. She only kills those 'necessary' to ensure her survival, and when Mengsk taunts her with Jim being alive, despite spreading news across the dominion that he's dead, she doesn't trust his word, but even if there was a 'SLIM' chance jim was alive, she threw her swarm to rescue him, despite knowing that the man she loved... would hate what she became to save him. So in the end, Tychus was the real hero of Wings of Liberty, not Jim. He may have made a deal with the devil, but sometimes you have to make a deal with the devil, but sometimes thats what it takes to be the hero.

My belief is Tychus didn't want to kill her but had to for his freedom. That being said, he couldn't betray his friend, and let Jim decide his fate. I don't think Jim held a grudge further into the plot. He felt sad for his friend's death, but understood that there was no point in losing tears: everyone is trapped by their destiny.

I know this has been brought up a few times but I believe Tychus was in fact trying to plead with not only Raynor but also Mengsk. If you notice he asks Mengsk if he was reading all of this, like kerrigans change and such, in a way saying is it still necessary to which Mengsk says you have your orders and thus shows he can kill Tychus. In that moment he could've unloaded on Kerrigan but instead slowly draws the pointer up, again pleading even though he should know by now Raynor wouldn't allow it. When Raynor responds with anger and ultimately says we all got our choices to make and unclapse his gun I believe Raynor did it like a warning and with Tychus having no other choice and regret he says its a damn shame, slowly pulling the trigger for Raynor, his now friend to end it.

Who else do we know who's involved with the Moebius Foundation? 2) Who else has a vested interest in the removal of threats to his own ambitions? 3) Tychus isn't too bright. "I made a deal with the devil, Jimmy." This is actually a much more telling line than you might think. "She dies, I go free." Is not what a deal with the devil is. It's quite the opposite, a deal with the devil has you reap the benefits right now, but you have to pay for them in the future. But Tycho *has* made a deal with the devil. He was given the information about the Xel'Naga artifacts. He helped Jimmy find and assemble them. Through his connections to Moebius, he got Raynor's Raiders funding for their rebellion against Mengsk, put crown-prince Valerian into a position to become the rightful ruler of the Dominion *and* set Jimmy up to redeem the Queen of Blades herself. All for the small price of his soul, which the devil came to claim in this moment.

I can't wait for Heart of the Swarm and see how this awesome story continues. Honestly I was expecting Starcraft 2 to be one of these crappy rushed "casual" games that are ruining awesome franchises (like Empire Total War or CnC 4 Tiberian Twilight) I'm glad I was wrong, Starcraft 2 actually turned out to be one of the best games I've ever played, not only in terms of presentation, details, easter eggs, gameplay, EVERYTHING. Few games come out as polished as this one.. Blizzard quality...

@AbyssalZones Several things come to mind however. 1. Mengsk is a self absorbed, narcissistic man who might just be crazy enough to trust Tychus. and 2, perhaps he never intended for Tychus to cause so much damage but wanted Tychus to be freed so he could meet up with Raynor, and knowing that Raynor has a personal vendetta againt Kerrigan, would egg Raynor on until he wanted to hunt her down. If they failed, why would he care? That's 2 people he hated out of the way.

If you think about it, even if Tychus killed kerrigan, mengsk probably wouldn’t uphold the end of the bargin. He probably would’ve been able to kill two bird with one stone. Stop the zerg queen, and no witnesses. Even Tychus was hesitating, dying to a friend is better dying a gruesome death. The suit would destroy his organs, but he probably be conscious till death.

@DexWulf123 How about this for SC3: - new XN ( non-corrupted t+z hybrids, magical faction ) - humans ( mainly UED, industrial superpower faction ) - Kalathi ( vengeful barbaric faction ) - Voice in the Darkness ( shadowy cthulhu-esque faction ) whatever arrangement Blizzard adopts in the future, I'll be happy as long as the SC universe gets expanded and we get to see some new species :) ( instead of confining the main plot to the Koprulu sector which is what SC2 seems to be doing ... )

If they didn't show Tychus dying, then, to me, he is still alive. Earlier in the game, Matt tells Raynor why Tychus can't leave his suit, and they find out that its wired to all his organs, so if Mengsk presses a button, he dies. I doubt they would simply leave Tychus like that.

He is very much dead. It's brought up in Heart of the Swarm. The entire point of his story arc is that he's a dead man walking.Taking away that would severely undercut the emotional payoff.
