Zerg always has the biggest trade deficits EVER when fighting Terran that its actually kind of ridiculous. Sometimes Zergs are down more than 10k resources compared to their Terran opponents.

I've got to agree with lowko. Get ravens. You stress out that every scan is 300 minerals. You can get a raven and save yourself those troubles. Not to mention that you can mess up zerg's pathing with the turrets

It's not like it even matters to terrans. See them drop 3 simultaneous scans on top of each other just to kill a few lurkers. 1 scan might have been enough. 2 scans staggered totally would do it, but nope all 3 all at once. I want to believe ZvT is balanced but terran gets the easy mode range, tech advantage, and aoe. also brrr marines go infinite damage in the densest packed format.

Those words with the "ph" pronounced like [f] - such as "Phoenix" (or "alphabet" or "philosophy") - have Classical Greek origins. These words are actually spelled with the letter phi (φ), which is pronounced in Classical Greek as an aspirated p (pʰ). When the Romans transliterated these words into the Latin alphabet, which obviously does not have a φ, they were spelled with the "ph" instead. As the Greek language changed over the centuries, so did the pronunciation of the φ, resulting it being pronounced more like [f] than [pʰ]. The new pronunciation was imported to Latin, but the old "ph" spelling remained, and thus down through the centuries to languages like English. I hope that's helpful!

Protoss I feel like depends less on being more skilled than the other player, and more on hoping the other player has a misstep (disruptor hits, late-game skytoss?) which is what makes TvZ the most entertaining to watch.

Lowko doesn't play Terran. You can't have a Tech Lab on a Starport past the early game for obvious reasons.

Not that you can't, more that the overwhelming majority of Terrans choose not to: Maru uses BCs and Banshees in mech compositions against Zerg. I absolutely agree that Medivacs, Vikings and Liberators are incredibly valuable and choosing to have a Starport with a Tech Lab is usually inefficient, but Terran buildings fly, or you could keep building Banshees and harassing with them, or keep building Ravens and using them against any composition Zerg has: AA Missile is generally great (especially on defence); Interference Matrix can be used to buy time for Ghosts to snipe Lurkers or against other casters and Auto Turrets can simply add damage and soak to any attack

@@martinhendry2683 Terrans do not "choose to not build Ravens", they choose to go Bio or Mech after their opener and that dictates the options. The vast majority of pro Terrans play Bio and it is not possible to stop producing Medivacs or air Support.

@@glowyboi7175 I'm aware of the choice to play bio or mech and the importance of constant macro, I just think that given the enormous likelihood of seeing Lurkers in tvz, the idea of having a single Starport able to produce Ravens that otherwise can still produce one Liberator, Medivac or Viking at a time while researching upgrades isn't going to break anyone's game. Yes, it's slightly inefficient, but so is losing a load of workers because you don't have a scan available. The Raven would need to be separately controlled which is honestly the biggest argument I personally see for not using them: apm limitations given how poorly they move with the rest of the army

This is probably because vision is not a problem for pro Bio Terrans - they never run out of scans unless they are behind already, and in that situation a Raven will put them even more behind. It certainly wouldn't have helped Cure - he lost because he didn't notice the Nydus spawning in his main, the production was still getting hit, the workers were still going to die.

Then you couldn't spend excess money, and max 200 supply limits it.

That would stagnate even more, slowing down spending. Static defenses are usually not with their army all the time, so they can be picked off slowly. Conversely, they slow enemy movement and encourage engagements due to increased map vision.

One thing that bothers me is how hatcheries are the only building/unit in the game that both sells units and sells research. That wasn't even the case in SC1 where they exclusively just performed research (larvas are free) It's annoying how there's 2 useful techs for zerg to research on the hatchery at the same time as having to upgrade the hatcheries as well as build queens.

You can't use overlord creep until Lair, and Queens are needed to defend in both the early and mid game. Pros do that but only in an all-in.

Can someone explain this to me? Everything I've read says that the queen has 2 attacks: Acid spines, and Claws. Claws is melee for ground units, and Acid spines is for air units... Yet, at 3:42 it shows the queen doing a ranged acid spine attack vs the Helions and the Reaper. But at 3:20 the queen does the claw melee attack on the reaper, and when the reaper gets out of range it doesn't do the acid spine attack. (I'm assuming this is because of the animation lingering long enough for the reaper to get out of range.) My question is this: Does the queen not differentiate between air and ground anymore? And if so, does the queen just have a "minimum" range where she HAS to use the melee attack, and if she's outside of this range she'll do the ranged acid spines attack instead? I've taken almost an 8 year gap away from SCII and I'm trying to get back into it.

I'm pretty sure they just change the animation of the ground attack depending on distance (because it looked ridiculous seeing the queen stretch her claws so far) - but the damage taken is still 'claws'.

They tried 4 races with Warcraft 3 and it honestly had a lot of problems. They had less variety over 4 races than Starcraft does with three. A fourth race would likely lower the quality and diversity as they have to balance a new race. Even Blizzard admitted a fourth race was considered for SC2 but they couldn’t make it work without either breaking balance or lowering versatility.
