@@1un4cy banelings do 18 + 17vs light I believe and in the next patch itll be 15 + 20vs light so they do 3 less to everything but light units now it doesnt seem like alot but theres probably a bit of a drop in usefulness even more so because they kill themselves ever attack

@Kyler Dowling nice dude, dw zerg is a bit weird like that, it's harder below diamond for some reason but as you get closer to master league it gets kinda easier, at least compared to Terran, I can't speak for toss as I rarely played toss. And then (basically m1/absolute bottom gm it balances out again with the other races) hence why I never got past that point, my apm and micro was never good enough to keep up with the creep spread/injects required at that point, and as for Terran my micro was just plain shit haha

As to your early statement about the PvZ matchup, that's a consequence that comes naturally when you balance the game around the highest level of play. So many units have immensely high skill floors (not just skill ceilings!), and with that extra skill, a unit goes from useless to broken OP. That's why the PvZ matchup does a flip over a certain skill floor, from zergs struggling below that level to zergs dominating above that level. So yeah, you really can't complain, and not just because you're not "good enough" (I'd say you're pretty darn good), but because this is something you preached: balance for the top level of play, add more micro potential, make A-move strategies weaker and skill moves stronger, etc. The issue? Now you're below the skill floor, and you're pretty high up there in skill. This is the logical conclusion of what you've asked for.

I would say Lowko has the right idea, concerning skill floors (a concept I've never really thought of before, tbh), though this is purely from the perspective of an observer, rather than a player. High skill games are simply more fun to watch. Still, it might be worth it for blizzard, from a longevity perspective, to make sure the skill floors match for all races (or maybe create a pewee league balance for the plebs, lol). Most of the e-sports audience (and players) are going to be drawn from people who play the game at a lower level of skill, and if its too frustrating to play as their favorite race, they might sour on the whole experience.

​@@SomeGuy-ty7kr Yep, you're largely right. It depends what the developers want out of their game. Right now, Starcraft 2 is the most relevant and successful (long term, at least) esport ever. Its existence is sustained by its entertaining HIGH level play, so it does make sense for the developers to focus on that. But that almost always comes at a cost to the rest of the more casual playerbase, and that can outright kill a game that relies on lots of people playing it to survive. There have been a good number of well-balanced, skill-based games that have just died because a select few players got so good, stomped on everyone they played with, typed things like "gg ez" at the end of the match, then wonder "where are all my victi...I mean, the other players?" when everyone else takes their ball and goes home to play something else, because its not fun anymore. That probably won't happen to SC2, because so much of its revenue comes from esports viewership, but who knows.

@@spamhere1123 yeah, SC2 has demonstrated some remarkable staying power already, so it's probably fine for a while yet, although I suspect it will get refreshed by a SC3 before too long (which I'm not terribly excited for, but w/e). I think a big part of it is that there's lots of other things to do in SC2, like the campaign, the arcade, co-op mode, etc. so even if you can't cut it in ranked, you can still engage with the game (which may drive some interest into the e-sports side).

@@SomeGuy-ty7kr You are completely right with this. I for myself never played more than 1-2 ladder games per season. But I play everything else, the campaign, coop, arcade. Sometimes I try to bet the brutal AI but since my winrate against it is not 100% I don't dare to try ladder games.

@@vuhdoo7486 You know, I think the strats for dealing with a brutal AI and the strats for dealing with humans are a bit different, so I think as long as you can pretty reliably out-macro the brutal ai, you can probably still do decently on the ladder. lol, not that I'm necessarily saying you gotta or anything. Personally I find pvp kind of stressful, so I don't like doing it outside of a casual environment. Having to tryhard just takes any fun out of it.

The problem with protoss is they keep getting buffs on already very good units, this means that on the ladder, they're allowed to make mistakes but the units are so good they make up for it, then when they get to pvz in tournaments, they have a ton of zerg players who've been beaten senseless by the tiniest mistake and have had to up their skill significantly to compensate

And thats when they dealt 18 dmg. Latest patch is 15 damage (against non light units) So archon 350 shield + 10 hp = 360 360/15 = 24 banelings

They're like hellions or adepts. They deal 40 damage vs light units like workers, marines and zerglings, and only 18 vs everything else; hellion and adepts have similar bonuses vs light units. It's also worth noting that vs buildings they deal spell damage (I can't remember how much) instead of their normal attack. This means that it takes almost as many banes to kill an archon as it does to kill a planetary fortress.

Can anyone explain to me this: Lowko has said that top level Protoss always seem to want to do more with their lategame comp, as most they can do is landing some storm or a good feedback, and maybe micro the Mothership a bit. This makes their army too predictable and conventional than the Zerg. But why isn't anyone adding some Disruptor to the mix ? Their Purification Nova seems to be the ultimate zoning tool the Protoss have. Surely against those like Serral, Reynor, it is almost impossible to land a good hit but it will certainly force them back to gain momentum. So why isn't any Protoss player doing that ?

ground only aoe that freezes the unit in place and isn't at all reliable at actually dealing damage while requiring colossus levels of investment and can only attack once every 21 seconds. It see's plenty of use in pvp and pvt as zoning tool but you'll rarely land a hit on zerg ground if they even have any when late game zerg air is where it tends to be at. Just the fact you need a robo bay to make them hurts their use in pvz as you really need to be pushing or preparing for air game. It see's use in roach ravager match ups (like this game) but generally due to the creep speed boost and high burst damage of zerg units you sort of hoping they stick on roach ravager and that you can jump on them after they miss biles.

If you check balance report at aligulac you can see that protoss players win too much comparatively to their skill (at the highest level of the ladder). So no, if you wanna get to GM with the least effort you should practice Protoss.
