Post scarcity isn't in Starfinder. It is explained away by the UPB, the 'universal polymer base.' It is a small pill-like object that can be reconfigured into almost anything . . . or part of anything at least. So you get enough UPBs together and you can make almost anything if you have the technical know-how. Most economies are based around the UPB, with one UPB=1 credit.

Very nice, concise and informative introduction to the setting. I don't know Starfinder at all, and I only know Pahtfinder in general, and yet I feel I now have a rough idea of the setting. For me personally, the Star Trek comparisons were very helpful :D

While not as big on an organizational scale, I would have added the Starfinder Society to this mix - they are after all the centerpiece and namesake of the game and its organized play program (who have a pretty significant and consistent impact on SF's story, probably moreso than the Pathfinder Society does in Pathfinder) - though they are arguably a subset of Pact Worlds, but still.

I’ll probably talk about the Starfinder society at some point, but the sad truth of the matter is, they just aren’t as big as the ENTIRE pact worlds. Certainly in the midrange factions though.

My one and only critique about Starfinder going 2e is the ever lingering threat of Paizo biting the bullet and making the playable races, alien and humanoid alike, humans with funny hats. In 1e if you wanted to play a space spider, go for it. There's nothing holding you back aside from the DM's discretion. As someone who's put more hours into Starfinder than any other module, I've never sat in a pod and wrangled with the DM about playable races and the expectations surrounding them. They're unique, they feel natural and not forced. Are some arguably better than others? Yes, but that adds to the appeal. It's another stepping stone for your character to either overcome or ignore entirely. 5e fucked over its player races by making them all equal and rewriting titular aspects of the races that were more pc and reduced the experience. You look at a table and everyone might as well be a human on paper, indistinguishable from each other aside from class and background.

I am really curious to see the new playtest adventures because one appears to indicate from the initial blurbs the patra world in the vesk home system is now a member of the pact worlds so I think something must be getting spicy between those groups again.

I thought the bugs dispersed 'spores' into space that then made planetfall. Not, like, launching into space. And I guess realistically they would have to have some sort of FTL travel, but, I mean, I don't think we see it? I'm not as into the Starship Troopers universe as I am into Star Trek, sorry.

"Star Empire" is more evocative of the Romulans than the Dominion, in my opinion.

Eh. . . The Veskarium are more like the Klingons. I’m not SUPER into Warhammer 40k lore, but from what I’ve heard from the Tau, they aren’t about the glory of combat (they conquer because they genuinely think it’ll help the galaxy, right?). And the Azlanti are. . . Bad. I think they get a perverse pleasure in subjugating other species, where as (from what I understand) the Imperium of man are about survival. Also. . . like, this galaxy has both hope and a bit of whimsy, which seems to be lacking in Warhammer 40k.

I'd say the Imperium is worse than Azlanti. Azlanti believe themselves to be superior to everyone else, but there are non-human races in the empire, like the Gosclaw, who managed to worm/strongarm their way into citizenship despite not even looking human. Meanwhile all, and I mean ALL, aliens are shot on sight by the Imperium, even ones that appear harmless or friendly.

To be fair, the Imperium has a track record of everything trying to kill them, so it’s like a survival tactic. I think the Azlanti get a perverse joy out of torture. I guess we can just leave it at ‘they are both just bad!’

I hope Paizo don't chicken out and release an adventure or AP around the Azlantis and just lean into the fact that yeah, they are fascist, and you can't convert them with a Diplomacy check

So far in SF1 the azlanti's we have seen are very solidly fascist and even their more grey area holdings that are more on the criminal side and less under the thumb of the govt still seem pretty solid azlanti supremeicists and facists. Now with multiple worlds and billions of people one must assume there are more than a few who don't believe that but the govt over all and from all of the NPC's I have seen in adventure paths they are loud and proud about what they believe and make real good and punchable bad guys.

I mean, bug monsters in Sci Fi/Science Fantasy are not exclusive to warhammer 40k. There are the bugs from Starship Troopers, The Zerg, the replicators from Stargate (if you count robot bugs), Doctor Who has several, Several Star Trek Episodes have bug monsters, the entire ending fight scene from Star Wars II . . . like, there are a lot of bug alien monsters in Sci fi/sci fan out there. So yes, but also, bug monsters are hardly unique to Warhammer 40k

That’s. . . Why I put the definition up on screen in the video? Also, socialism (any form) is where the means of production (industry) is owned by the state. The definition I used doesn’t say who owns the means of production (implied through dictator, but it isn’t stated outright.). And we don’t know what the means of production is in the Azlanti empire. Source: I’m an actual Anthropologist with a decent degree of training in sociology and geopolitical theory.
