I love how fast Pike seems to trust his crew, from the very first episode when La'an suggests to raise sheilds and he immediately commands it.

I realize it was just for the drama but there would've been severe official consequences for Uhura ordering the torpedoes to be fired instead of Pike ordering them to be fired on her request to do so.

Starfleet isn’t a military organization

I mean, Pike nods confirmation of the order to La’an before the torpedos are fired. Pike’s still in control of the situation, he’s just letting Uhura take the lead because he trusts her judgement of the situation

The thing that it shows also is there is the captain and he trust his crewman enough that if she says there is a Life form there, and that it has been trying to communicate that there harming it and this is what Hass to be done he only goes and let her do what Hass to be done but he also is concerned about her well-being enough to say, and after you’ve done all that go and take a nap and that’s an order it shows what kind of a captain Pike was. He was so much better than Kirk. please bear in mind that I am using voice to text and it doesn’t write things as I would write them but I cannot use my hands and this is the only tool I have that works so if it spells the word has as HASS at times it’s because it does what it wants and unless I am very clear and precise with my diction. It doesn’t necessarily get what I’m saying and I am not always precise with my diction. It is a part of my handicap.

Something tells me they didn't bother doing a proper survey of the deuterium before extraction. I know we do something like this IRL you when prospecting for oil and gas we have a look at what's being pumped. I mean after that incident a call for proper surveying will be needed so this doesn't happen again. Note Im not very good with star trek so I could be wrong.

We cannot detect any lifeforms. We cannot see them, hear them, detect them on sensors, most telepaths cant detect them either. We do however have an obviously panicked and unstable bridge officer insisting we have to destroy this massively expensive and tactically important refinery right now. Welp, guess we just fire torpedos. Fuck it.

I wonder if military Officers or cadets at West Point have to watch the leadership qualities exhibited by Star Trek Captains like, in no order of preference, Picard, Sisko, Janeway & Pike?
@kermitbohlen84012 ай бұрын
Honestly, I would hope not. Despite the military trappings and nominal military structure, Starfleet is NOT supposed to be an actual military organization in the traditional sense, and that's skipping past the fact that it's a construct of a tv show for telling humanist stories. It's far more humanitarian and exploratory than anything currently in the US military. You'd have to entirely re-tool the mindset of the US military before characters and storytelling like Kirk, Picard, and etc would become useful. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the US military re-tool for a vastly more humanitarian focus - but that's the kind of thing we'd all have to agree on as a nation, and there would be dangers involved.

It was Kes, not Tess for one thing. Secondly, there's no indication that Uhura will continue to do this. It's probably due to her connection or influence by the aliens. Plus, she is the communications officer.

Hey, quick question, what the hell are you talking about and do you even know what "virtue signalling" is or do you just use words in a "when all you have is a hammer" philosophy? TOS had the characters act on whims all the time and that is considered a classic. Same can be said with other shows that are beloved, like Columbo.
