Fifth was the only villian in SG1 I genuinely felt sorry for, I really felt bad for him in this.

Reese was kind of a victim too

What Jack O'Neill did to Fifth was the reason that Fifth turned his back on his own humanity. Fifth was like Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

He could have had a ghost protocol hidden deep. Jack did the right thing...

Honestly this moment caused so much tragedy for so many people all because of Jack’s own biases. It is because of him, the replicators just got worse. In this instance of sheer manipulation, he was no better than the system lords lying and manipulating others cause he thought he was superior.

I felt bad for fifth also but when you really think about it there was no other way, they couldn't take fifth with them it was to much of a risk and even if they did take that risk the others would have stopped fifth before he could make to the ship as there would have been more time on the clock.

This is one of the hardest hitting endings in SG-1. Both the Characters and the viewer realized that exploiting 5th Humanity was wrong from a moral standpoint. You can't condemn machine intelligences for beeing heartless and then exploit the one thats Humanlike am emphathises with you without deserving a spot in hell. Thats all that matters to 5th and why he from his POV was fully justified in seeking revenge against SG-1 and viewing "Intelligent species" soely as a threat to be obliterated. I understand him, though i do not agree of course. But on the other hand, Jack has a point. This foul deal bought the Galaxies one and a half years of peace and left only 5th in charge. It could have even bought decades under the right circumstances. If the Replicators had come out on their terms with all Humanforms intact there would have been no escape. They would have swept over one galaxy after another like a plague, becoming more unstoppable with everything they assimilate.

At work so didn't have the episode on hand. Was listening to Lana Ray's One Upon a Dream and thought of Fifth

Is it just me or did the various _Stargate_ series each express an anti-robot/android/AI sentiment? With the exception of Daniel Jackson, I can't remember *anyone* pushing back against the "It's just a machine." argument. What makes *this* scene particularly egregious is Jack's lack of evolution ever since he saw his *own* robot double die.

And we meet again lol. I will point out again that Sam also thought we have moral responsibility towards AI if they experience the world like we do. She started to think about it that way when Urgo told her he was afread of dying and then she went down the list of what she thought it meant to be alive. But i do agree that jack does seem to be stuck in his ways and ultimitly not to be learning anything. Although it mostly seems to revolve around trust with him. And because he is a military man his first thought is eliminating risks. I also think that because philosophy and science both search for truth or atleast make use of critical thinking skills sam more easily sees where Daniel is coming from. Jack is more practical and his morals seem to revolve around moral codes but lack the depth that a moral philosophy has.

@@yannickm1396 "She started to think about it that way when Urgo told her he was afread of dying and then she went down the list of what she thought it meant to be alive." If she learned anything meaningful, she must have forgotten it by the time Stargate Command met Reese.

I don't like the way the character of Richard Dean Anderson thinks and I don't like the fact he gets to be the only actor under the label 'Starring' in most episodes...

I get what you mean he does have the typical shoot first military attitude but you can tell in his eyes he didn't like what he thought he had to do to fifth
@victorselve83498 жыл бұрын
considering his actions throughout the series his denial of fifths humanity was probably more of a mental self defense mechanism trying to justify what he knew was wrong. we usually don't realize how strong the classic us them way of thinking is embedded in the human behavior until we see others do it to the misfortune of somebody we sympathise with and even then we will do the very same thing without a second thought still claiming to be better then those we just condemned for the very same thing. It's really a rather ironic human trait but not the funny kind of ironic but the tragic one

That was the brilliance of the show each of the characters had their own immoral decisions and their character development was what made the show as good as it was. for example following actors on SG Atlantis weren't as good combined with average plot it was bad in comparison
