Still was a struggle for Starkiller, Vader's lightsaber strikes almost broke his wrists if I recall correctly, and Vader only lost because Galen was more creative with how he used the force.

@@doccock2115 No he wasn't, read the novelization and literally all legends source material on Vader, his raw power was only second to that of sidious's, and the novel implies that Galen and Vader matched eachother in force combat, while Vader was the better duelist. Keep in mind this isnt even Vader at his prime, return of the Jedi Vader is 8/10ths sidious, and Return of the Jedi sidious is stronger than the Sidious who was Yoda's equal in Revenge of the sith. The best wank you could possibly give Galen is that they are equals in terms of the force.

@CVK That's the general consensus, the fact he was able to land blows on Vader due to superior agility is an incredible feat when his bones were close to breaking. It seems like he was tagging him where he could like Luke did in ESB to even stand a chance, and then he finally found an opening.

Thanks for your continued delving into legends continuity. I know not everyone’s a fan but I was someone who basically read the EU novels as they came out since the original Thrawn trilogy. It sucks that they no longer let people write in that universe as there was a lot there to work with and some plots weren’t really resolved. Especially Karen Travis republic commando series.

I didn't know that Anakin's old blue eyes were peeking through when his face was exposed. For that to have happened, the hate must've left him for a few moments. Was it just pure exhaustion, or was there possibly some part of him that cared about Galen? He could never have replaced Luke, but in a sense, Vader did "raise" him. This fact about the blue eyes is very intriguing, & unfortunately, we'll probably never hear any more details about it, as it's been erased from canon.

He raised Galen like the son he thought had been lost with Padme. He also likely regretted killing his family and fellow Jedi only to end up a slave to Palpatine, so he must have very briefly accepted that he was getting what he deserved.

Josh Donoho I like the thought. My thought is this. Tell me what you think. In that moment, what if Vader didn’t turn to the light again, but instead was happy. Happy? Yes because he knew his body in it’s current form couldn’t possibly defeat Palpatine, even with more extensive training and knowledge. But in his defeat he saw his former apprentice, Someone whom Palpatine himself said was capable of being his equal, grow powerful enough to defeat the man that planted the lies that essentially ruined his life. Now that that idea is there, the debate could be argued for light or dark side in that moment of Vader’s imminent defeat. God bless!

The problem is that there is a lot of difference between the "sad and pathetic" Vader of legends and the powerful Vader of the current canon. If you want the Star Killer story to be canon, the fight between Vader vs Star Killer should be remade, cause the battle would last much longer. And I honestly prefer the way they are showing Darth Vader in the current canon, as an unstoppable machine full of anger

It’s not as simple as that. The Emperor is literally the most powerful Force user in the galaxy, capable of defeating Yoda himself. And before you start talking about Anakin, Anakin never reached his full potential. I’m strictly talking about the other Force users in this time period as they were, not their full potential. Anyway, Palpatine is literally so powerful that he was able to implant visions of Padme dying into Anakin’s dreams. If he can do that, he can probably influence somebody’s thoughts from “Yeah I’ll kill Vader then I’ll kill Palpatine later” to “Yeah I’ll kill Vader and take his place, power sounds cool.”

Gerard Clarke he was trained for about 10 years, but while I do see your point, I just feel that the fact that he matches Vader (who at this point trained for around 30 years and is the chosen one) is far fetched. Even if he was trained to fight Sidious (who had been practicing the force for over 70 years) at this point, him coming to a stalemate with him seems far fetched.

I hated this story. Starkiller was the author's personal character insert. He stole Luke's thunder and even went so far as to make the Rebel Alliance symbol based on his creation's family crest. So childish. Starkiller is little better than Rey in terms of lazy writing and stealing from the original. The new cannon sucks, but I'm glad this is gone.

When another Jedi was fighting Vader why would they not just force grab Vader’s mask of as its not a physical limb so it can’t be resisted

Yeah, I would imagine it would be so tiring to be so angry and sad all the time. And to hate yourself so much as well. Vader is a villain but God help me sometimes to do feel bad for him. Sometimes
