Waterproof Cable Entry Cover: amzn.to/3spCqOA
This video will walk you through the full installation process of installing a Starlink on your roof using the Volcano mount. I will also be installing most of the hardware in a closet with the wifi router located in an open space centrally located in my home. I will compare the initial speeds for download, upload, and latency when I used a temporary mount as compared to this permanent mount and installation

This is the most professional installation I've seen for Starlink. My mom got Starlink and it failed after some heavy rains. We got a replacement cable and it worked for a little while and failed. Apparently failing cables is a common problem with Starlink. I've been reading in some online forums that the service loop alleviates a lot of cable problems. Thank for you the in depth explanation of how to install the cabling.

The marine cable clam you used was something I thought about using for my install, though I went through brick, and I didn't know if I could get the four surrounding screws to go in cleanly (one always seems to chip out when you drill holes so close!). It's good to see how others do their install, and also happy to see you have it all working. The interior finishing was top notch, wish all installers would be so clean and tidy with their work! I hope Starlink serves you well.

That was a really nice install. The one thing I would have recommended doing differently is to site the roof mount on the slope of your roof that is in the direction the terminal (i.e. "dish") faces. In the Northern Hemisphere (US, Canada, UK, Germany, etc.) Starlink terminals will face north. In the Southern Hemisphere (Australia, New Zealand, etc.) the terminal will face south. So, assuming you're in the US or Canada, I would have put the terminal on the north face of your roof
@EverydayHomeRepairs
@EverydayHomeRepairs 3 жыл бұрын
Hey John, good point and thanks for calling that out. I was trying to "tuck" the dish on the back side (south side) of my house away from the street and although it looks like the Starlink unit still has enough range of motion to position in the needed north-facing position I could see this being an issue with roofs that have a little more pitch.

Best video I’ve seen yet. I have to say I’m a bit nervous and unsure of how to accomplish this task and do it well. I bought this house 2 years ago and the internet came in from under the floor. The line that came from the street would screw into a box on the outside of the house connecting the line under the floor leading to the modem. The internet was sooo bad that I discontinued the service and went with Viasat. When Viasat hooked up they just connected to the box outside. You think I can do that when I get Starlink or should I do it more along the lines of what you did in this video. I know it’s a long comment but you really did complete an excellent video and will probably know the right solution. Thanks for taking to time to be so thorough.

Thanks for this vid, I've been curious about Starlink and decided it was time to learn more about it. You may have mentioned pre-drilling for the lag screws to prevent splitting the backer board. I also wondered if running the cable straight up to the ridgeline and along the face of the ridge cap would lesson debris accumulation and encourage rainwater draining. Just a thought.

Hey Bob, thanks for the feedback and I am sure there are a number of routing improvements I could make but for the most part the hole coming into my attic is tucked away out of 95% of the weather we get around here since it is facing East and most of the rain / precipitation comes from the West. 👍

Yeah, I think things will get a bit interesting in a year or 2 but I am curious to see what the limit is on the satellite capability. I think SpaceX is sandbagging a bit on what they really think the connection speeds can be with a mature mesh of satellites. The deployment will take a bit but I will be along for the ride and provide periodic updates 🚀

Slick install. Question though, on average I see roof installs where the dish is placed on the South slope of the roof and then when the dish aligns (Northward) the lower dish now rests a mere inches from the roof slope. Would a North install on the roof improve the lower edge of the dish to rest several inches higher from the roof surface thus reduce the likelihood of potential winter icicle buildup and forming a bridge to the structure? Love your wire routing into the house...envious!

Absolutely great video. I have a deposit on Starlink but since I live on the Mississippi gulf coast will probably not be getting it until the end of the year. I have been watching as many of these install videos as I can to determine what is the best for my house. I am curios if you can use the tripod mount that comes with the kit as a roof mount. It has a bolt hole at the end of each of the legs and would increase stability because of the larger footprint. It may be that they want as many bolts as possible going into a rafter. However using a 2X12 as a back-up as you did should eliminate any problem. Thanks again not only for this but for all of your great videos.

That night, it snowed. Next day, no internet. The snow had melted perfectly, but the dripping water formed an icicle that then froze to the roof and stopped the dish from moving. Result : broken drive unit. He said SL customer service responded promptly and replaced the dish. However, even if the dish was a bit higher off the roof, would the weight of icicles become a problem? Time will tell.
