yep either their transmission antenna's or their fiber setups would be perfect. I myself would run a fiber line to each building and run a router per building, but if these buildings are further apart, I would run the antenna's. there can be a bit of interference, so the fiber runs is the better of the two options.

“The dish is nothing fancy” he says. You couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s really a phased array, not a dish with a single point of feeding the signal. This gives it the ability to see multiple satellites at the same time for seamless transfers from bird to bird and ultimately the ability to get signals from more than one at a time. That nothing fancy dish probably costs over a thousand bucks to make even at the volume they are making them. A couple years ago they’d have cost three or more times that. They really are rocket surgery.

Look up using Yagi Directional Antennas and Wi-Fi repeater/extenders. They offer being able to do longer distances to different LOS (Line of Sight) locations. Also, to better handle LOS issues, mount your antenna's high up like on top of the highest point on a building. Directional antennas can increase signal strength (and thus less dropped packets) by focusing the signal in a particular direction, rather than omni-directional antennas. Good luck. 🤓

Good video. I am glad I stayed right to the end. You should have no problem beaming signal to each of your out buildings. I use TPLink CPE210 for this at my place. But there are others. You may need two transmitters pointed in different directions to cover everything and you are smart to put these up high to get line of site. I would not put your dish way up there. I see some snow. I would put the dish in an area that you can get to it easy. Yes, the dish will melt snow but some have reported icicles forming and if the ice reaches the base, it can lock the dish and burn out the motor. You want to be able to get to these icicles. A longer pole will help. But you have so much clear area and no trees, you should be able to place it in a convenient and clear location. Can hardly wait to see your progress. My dish is in a FedEx warehouse a hour away, so hopefully soon.

Nice to see tech making the lives of those who feed us easier for a change! I'd suggest going for two starlink setups anyway and then if you have issues with one you can fail over to the other, If you can trench a cable between your buildings I'd highly recommend it but otherwise a good wifi setup will work, even if you can't get line of site solar powered access points setup as a mesh will give you good coverage and can even work out in the fields to keep your phones off cellular data.

I'm currently living in a middle of nowhere village in southern part of India. DSL was the only option available if we wanted internet. It used to cost a fortune even for a 1 Mbps downlink connection because there was only one company which provided it. But around 4 years ago our state government took an initiative to connect every home in the state with optical fiber. As a result, I'm now paying only 600 Indian Rupees (about 8 USD) a month for a 100 Mbps connection included with TV and phone. This is cheaper even by Indian standards. There are other plans that go up to 1 Gbps for 1000 INR (about 13 USD). This has made my work so much easier.

I don't agree with that wholly. What they do is use the budget in unorthodox ways, like when they put a Tesla roadster 1 on a Space X spaceship. It wasn't just to show what they can do that but rather advertising both the companies all over the world as the first car to be in space and reach mars (hopefully). Doing that task took a huge amount of financial resources which I'm almost sure is coming from the "marketing budget". Anyway, making brilliant products also helps a ton.

My proof was, i bounced the modem it was attached to and verified with the account # of customer(I worked in that industry). Other thought is, wifi is a SHARED connection. So it gets cut down. If you can run Cat6/7 less than an 150ft, hardwire everything and use switches. Full power! :) GL!!!

Very interesting video and nicely done. I'm really interested to see how this works out I think it will work out well for you guys, just remember to make sure you have plenty of security and passwords that are strong so that nobody can hack into your system and steal access to it. I'm not casting any aspersions against your neighbors, But with speeds like that in a rural area, they'll definitely be others that will want to try to jump on your signal. Good luck with everything and I look forward to more videos on your antenna installation. One other note I would make, for your Starlink dish, altitude is less important then line of sight to the satellite is. Unless you've been told something different from someone else I would keep that antenna lower on the building just making sure that it has an easy access to a good satellite. Now your local transmitter antenna will definitely want to be at the top of the barn But your Starlink antenna you might wanna have a little more of a convenient place to a get to it and it being protected from wind and other elements. Just my personal thoughts on the manner, good luck gentlemen.

I remember our first satellite dish was only 16 feet across...it was so tiny! You can transmit the Starlink using microwave technology to one receiver at each site then use a single router to split it up to each computer at that site. It would lessen the chance of signal failure and lower the cost of hardware by a huge amount. You can also use your phones through the transmitted internet to keep your data costs lower off the cellular service side.

Got my email from Starlink a couple weeks ago too. I’ve had a 1.7 mile wireless link to my DSL modem for 16 years now, (country living). For the past 10 I’ve used Ubiquiti equipment. I started with 2.4GHz with external grid dish antennas until the trees filled in then switched to 900MHz. I use a Nanostaion M2 to fill in wireless access around yard and garage. Their lower end Wifi radios alone would work for your farm and with external directional antennas you can easily get up to 7+ mile link line-of -site. Most of their radios can be configured as an access point or a client. Some of their newer radios are dual band which I haven’t tried. I think they receive on 5GHz and broadcast on 2.4GHz You may want to call them and describe what you need covered.

It doesn't _need_ to be high, but it needs a decently large and completely clear picture of the sky for the phased-array antenna in the dish to be able to accurately pick up and track the satellites passing over. Putting it up high is the best way of getting everything out of interference range.

Here's an idea: Get a Ubiquity router. They are not cheap, but extremely easy to set up and will provide the necessary technology you will need. You may also add a switch to it. Then, get the long distance antenna dishes and receivers from them. I think a dish can also act as a receiver. They make those too. Use the router or switch to connect your home plus the antenna (for best speeds and so on, get one antenna for each area you want to provide service in, so five of those). There are cheaper alternatives, but if you are not akeen to that stuff, Ubiquity is the way to go as it is almost as easy as a pretty standard router.

I'm very familiar with Line of Sight PTP links. Those will need the highest point on the barn and is basically fixed position. The StarLink dish on the other hand is is a Moving Mechanism which is much more fragile. It also does not need the highest point as long it has clear view of the sky. Mount the DIsh somewhere lower with more wind protection a safer location for the Dish. From experience is much easier to acquire PTP Antennas than Starlink Phased Array Dishes.

Best Starlink video of the ones I have watched already. I ordered mine 2 weeks ago and can’t wait. If Musk made Kool-Aid.....I’ll drink it.

I was getting 280mbps down sometimes and 40mbps upload in southern Colorado with starlink. Avg was about 150mb download. I ended up returning it because it's just not consistent enough for daytrading and gaming yet but the speeds are there and if you just need it for streaming or downloading/uploading stuff it's great for that and way better than traditional sat. Once there are more satellites up I doubt I'd have issues.

Thanks for this info. Will a major snow storm mess with the line of sight reception between the receivers? TP

Depends on distance. 2.4 is good balance. 900mhz really punches thru a lot.

Heads up, you wont need 2 systems, just get some underground ethernet cables installed and lay it to all the points that requires internet. You can connect the dish to a ethernet port switch to allow multiple ethernet connections. If you like these ethernet cables can go to different ethernet switches and can possibly connect to wireless routers or even computers and so on. Hopes this helps.

Consider mounting the dish in the most convenient place that is open on the sides. height does not matter. Then use ubiquiti Unifi routers and access points to shoot the signal to various barns. That will work great.

Don't worry about putting the dish high; a few feet won't matter when shooting at a satellite. Put it where it's safe from damage but convenient for a service call. Pick the location that's most central to all your buildings. Your speeds are great for your needs; the delay time thru the satellite to the Internet and back may slow up anybody game-playing.

@@thislldofarm I think I am going to dig a cable from the house to the barn and workshop, but I am only 500 feet and 300 feet not to much money for direct burial cable so it can be shallow. One time cost hopefully.
@jdilksjr3 жыл бұрын
@@salmonhunter7414 500 feet is to far for ethernet cable. The limit is 100 meters (328 feet). You would have to use fiber cable instead or put a network switch in the middle of the run.

You need to check out ubiquiti gear. There are some other vendors that do the same thing, but there is no reason that you need two starlink systems. You can basically set up your own wireless ISP on your property. The best fit would probably be their airMAX ac stuff. One Access point should be good for your whole site. The antennas can be up to 30KM away.

That dish has a heating system in it too so you don't have to worry about frosting I'm pretty sure.

I just got my email today that Starlink is available and I could not be more excited! For the past year we have had Viasat and it has to be the worst internet service imaginable. We are hoping Sarlink will change our internet experience for the better!

Yeah try using a mesh type router like Orbi with the extra outdoor satellites for distance. The mesh type system sends the internet signal to the other satellite routers with minimal loss of signal.

Only concern is . . . is your barn roof corrugated metal? If so, you might want to reconsider your setup to make sure you're not blocking with any conductors or living organics.
