Great fish!! Caught over 60 fish from our boat on the Tamar this summer from about 25 days fishing, biggest went 56cm!! Interestingly, not a single undersize fish and we now throw back anything under 40cm!!

Thanks Steve, mate I just watched your DVD with bushy,squigie secrets. I hope bushy is still well and fishing. Would be nice to see him again. It's funny how you go back to the early days and still pick up a few tips. In between bushy catching a flathead or bream. Cheers mate 🍺

60cm whiting ??? that's insane ! That is almost legal mulloway size - imagine how hard that would pull ! I'm not really a fly fisher but that water looks shallow enough to me to try the long wand - now a 50cm+ whiting on fly would be epic !

Yes, it’s crazy isn’t it!? I’m still trying to get my first on a lure, but fly would be epic! There are definitely places where it would work…

Well done Steve! Tassie has some stonker fish. I remember 20 + years ago at Sisters Beach NW Tassie, a tinnie pulled into the beach after fishing an offshore reef. 2 blokes unloaded their catch of ocean leather jackets and among were 2 stonkers - one went 7 lbs 8 oz and the other 8 lbs 4 oz. From memory they were six spine leather jackets and since that day, I have never seen any bigger ones than those two.

Ahoy Starlo,,,We often catch em in Georges Bay St Helens on 2 inch Zman curly tail grubs in bloodworm colour while chasing bream. Nice bye catch,,,, Ive had a few escape the esky on the kayak. lively little buggers,,,

Starlo mate you might be right that Tassie has great KG’s as does SA & WA. I was friends with the late Doug Clegg the KG king who taught me to fish for KG. Rottnest Island has monster KG & I’ve had a 2.7 & a 2.4 KG landed on my boat. It was about weight not length when we caught them but these things were big animals. They are still there due to Rotto geography which holds them and I’ve seen 2 others that were bigger than the afore mentioned fish. Seriously consider the Island and I doubt you’d be disappointed.

My biggest was an incidental catch also on an island KI off the rocks that went 60 but compared to the light vibrant colour of his mine was closer to black along the top.

Doms fishing pulled in a 58cm beauty close to shore, south of freo, 56 was biggest we caught in the same area. have to look and be in the right place at the right time. Biggest we pulled up was a 43cm from the same spot a week later. I'm sure the youngsters of today have no idea who Clegg is.

Gee great whiting Starlo. I wish they grew that big in Darwin but I can always get a feed of them if I stop using them for live bait. I think I better stop complaining as already have the best weather and fishing in Australia as you know 😊

Good stuff! That’s an excellent catch of whiting. I have recently tried applying s-factor to a wormburner and baited beneath it with thin squid strips. It works very well on whiting!

Thanks! I’ve simplified things to a basic running sinker rig most of the time nowadays - less tangles! But a paternoster (dropper) rig also goes well on them. 👍
