I've been playing quite a bit of _Delta V_ lately, and I can say that the "space mining simulator" genre doesn't get enough love on its own. That game rules, and this looks pretty rad too. Exploding asteroids in half using detonation charges in E:D was one of my favorite things to do.

Yup, I agree. Delta V is very good. Especially the large collection of ships, and the fact that you can hire a colorful ragtag band of crew - something missing in almost all space and naval games these days. Fans of The Expanse will love it. My only issue is the twitchy control system and UI.

Finally a space game I might enjoy. I spent a lot of time in Space engineers mining, when not building. While it looks like you can't build your ship like in Space Engineers the modular way of building your ships looks interesting.

It became more efficient to go to overlapping hot spots, and just laser mine with limpets. Which sucks, because carefully cracking an asteroid is way more engaging

Well you are confusing publisher with devs. Space Trash Scavenger (disclaimer - developed by me and my partner aka SquarePlay Games) - happen to share the same publisher Paradox Arc. We are not working on Starminer.

There is another game coming from Paradox (Paradox Arc) that is called Stellaris Nexus. Dont be fooled by the name, while set in the same "setting" as stellaris, its a completely different game. Turn bases 4x boardgame is the best way to describe it and it features so many great things that make it feel very interactive, every choice feels important and it manages this in a full game of about 1 hour! If you enjoy board games like Twilight Imperium and Exclipse, this is one worth checking out. Simply a brilliant and polished game even in "open beta" and it hits early access in 2 days!

Yeah... Space Engineers is still a buggy mess. Planet Explorers, Midevil engineers, Hellion, Robocraft, eden star all abandoned. Empyrion galactic survival is good with mods. On the other hand, Astroneers and Stationeers are both great indie games...

I think they had demo at some point and in that one you could control your ships like RTS and not direct flight control. Or perhaps that was for another game but very same pitch as this game then where you start with a refiner and 2 ships one for defense and one that you build out for mining.

@@kearseymorton2078 Minecraft would be covered under the "surprises" part of my comment. Not that I think Minecraft is really comparable, the original version was a relatively simple game with very simple visuals whereas Starminer seems to be much more complex and of a much higher graphical fidelity, I have done a little game development, mainly level design, and if it was not for a team of other people doing the assets and helping with the more comprehensive coding I wouldn't have gotten anything done.

I really wish we'd get a game where the Map is just our solar system recreated from the Sun out to the Oort Cloud & you get to build, explore & survive like you do in Minecraft with a simple aim of taking 'Villagers' to other Planets & building Mining what ever you like. I don't like all the pseudo space games where made up space just doesn't feel as good as what we know Space to be in real life, real space within our Solar System alone is Fascinating and would totally carry a game for a great sandbox to play in. IF Kerbal, N.A.S.A and Minecraft mashed together & Carl Sagan wrote the rules for the game, it would be so Beautiful.

If the price is decent I'll be in. I love sneaking off to nowhere to quietly amass a fortune. Things I didn't like about the mining process in existing games that I've tried? 1. I didn't like it that pirates showed up no matter where I went. Sure, you should be discovered from time to time but space is massive and getting lost out there where nobody can find you should be the rule not the exception. 2. Running away should not be inhibited in any way. Too many space games favor the predator and not the prey. If I choose to bug out, am pointed to an escape and have the speed...then I escape. No interdictors, No forced engagements, No warm-up period while the nav-comp crunches the jump. Trying to catch a spaceship in a 3d environment shouldn't be impossible but it SHOULD be damn hard to do. There are an infinite number of escape vectors. 3. I should be able to shut it down and evade in place. If my sensors alert me to a scan then I should be able to stop operations, cozy up to a rock and lay low. Some munchies and a cool one should be a nice break while I'm watching my would-be captors buzz around trying to find me. 4. No space station would stay in business long if they allowed pirates to operate just outside the front door. YES, all of these things should have a CHANCE of happening every blue moon but they are the EXCEPTIONS not the rules. Complainers who will say this makes a boring game should go play whats out there. You can shoot-em-up to your heart's content.

Not sure what to think, i tried mining numerous times in Elite Dangerous and hated it, i gave the gameplay a fair go and built two dedicated mining ships, shooting rocks was so dull that i decided to ferry goods and passengers instead. Fingers crossed the mining in Starminer is more exciting, I'll wait for the reviews.

Wait, you didn't _just_ shoot rocks, did you? Because Deep Core mining with explosives was one of the coolest things in Elite, even if it's not as lucrative as it was (or should be.)

@@_Jay_Maker_ I literally shot at the rocks without exploding them into little bits, no deep core, I think I disliked the feeling of isolation when navigating through the rocks more than anything else. I don't feel I've missed out, I've still made more than 29 billion shipping around passengers and goods. Still glad mining exists although I don't take part, without this weeks mining Community Goal I wouldn't be making 110 million credits for shipping a batch load of Tritium to LHS 3872

Looking forward to Starminer, Starbase has died and left a hole in that area. Starbase required a ton of mining as well to build/buy your ships etc.

Elite Dangerous does indeed have an extremely good mining system, you can chip away at asteroids and have drones pick up the pieces for your refinery to process or do a little surface mining but it goes way beyond that now, I am not someone that is heavy into mining but I can eee how Elite would really appeal to somebody who is.
