Clay, this is a wonderful video collection! May I ask a question, because it looks like a miracle: at minute 6:40, you demonstrate a 9-o'clock swing where your stance is strongly rotated towards the target. This swing seems so easy-going, but - as you mention - you get some 150 yards. This is so amazing because it looks so effortless. Do you have a guess of your clubhead speed for this swing?
@TopSpeedGolf3 жыл бұрын
I don't think the clubhead speed is that high, but Clay's definitely delofting the club quite a bit hitting it like almost like a punch shot, which is why it's almost making it to the green from 150 yards out. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor

I live in Gainesville FL I bowl a lot when I was young and then had 3 back surgeries but my brother in-law got me to start playing and I started playing golf more down around West Palm on very nice courses start out shooting over 100 with my back I couldn't practice because it hurts bad I learned from him telling me to try to hit the ball into the ground and he didn't let me take a extra shot he passed away mid 2010 and I still hear when I play after he passed I got down to a 9 Handicap then I mess up my wrist and my knees so at 56 I have started again and after 27 arounds I am a 14 handicap
@marksamarin80423 жыл бұрын
With practice it becomes very easy to control the ball this way. I use this on the course when the flag is back and there are no bunkers up front - it works great (especially to a left-back pin). You just have to get a feel for your distances with each club.

Regarding the first drill in this video, I can do the first 45 degree drill great. When I move my feet closer to normal, the ball now shoots (pushes) off to the right. My club face must be open......what can I do to get it straight? I can also TOP the ball with normal swings. Is this the left arm pulling up??

Should you add ulnar deviation to square the club, or just roll the wrists? This has bugged me for a long, long time. Rolling my forearms and hands really causes me problems. Everything goes left! Should I be actively uncocking my wrists.
@TopSpeedGolf3 жыл бұрын
Bow the lead wrist and put the trail wrist into extension. I would make sure my hips and shoulders keep on turning - without this, the ball hooks. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

Start slow without a ball and add each piece as you get the one before it down. Then add speed until you have the whole thing. Then add a ball and go slow until you're striking it well and then add the next piece and more speed until you're at full speed. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

Isn't tilting the shaft 10deg forward at impact reducing the designed-in bounce of the club? Isn't that a bad thing? 10deg shaft tilt would reduce the bounce of my 7Iron to zero.

Clay, would strengthening the grip at address help close the clubface at impact?
@TopSpeedGolf3 жыл бұрын
Taking a stronger grip can mitigate the necessary amount of lead wrist bowing to square the face when delivering the club on a shallow plane with forward shaft lean. That being said, grip alone cannot totally compensate for this move. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

The hard part is the rotate the hands/underarms to square up the blade before impact. When I try this I just get too low and hit the ground.

I basically solved my iron shots off the ground guys, i just Slither up to my ball in the fairway and Lets say im 135 to the Green and i take a 7 iron and i just Relax Like Chi Chi Rodriguez and i hit a Cut shot and dont even think about golf Mechanics, just open the face and take an extra club and dont sweat the mechanics and swing it and cut it like chi chi and walk towards the flagstick and boom your on the putting green, and then pull out your sword like chi chi and make those putts boys, and hit the damm ball past the hole on putts, dont putt like a scared little girl coming up short on those crucial birdie putts, remember boys just swing it and cut it like chi chi and dont sweat it.

That left foot sure wiggles alot. Golf can be as simple or complicated as you want it to be. Breaking it down into basic concepts like the double pendulum is how you find it's purest form. Shouldn't be walking into a shot thinking about 25 things your body needs to hit a clean shot. Want to be a better ball striker? Practice chipping using the hinge and hold. If you lean the shaft forward/de-loft you have to regrip before you take your swing.
