The first thing I feel every morning for as long as I can remember is ‘I don’t want to’. I don’t want to get up, I don’t want to socialize, I don’t want to rush somewhere, I don’t want to go to work, I don’t want to deal with such and such, etc. The only thing that gets me out of bed is the fact that I must get out of bed for whatever reason and hunger. Left to my own devices I don’t get out of bed till noon. I think since childhood I hate my life and I hate conflict. I don’t want to feel that way anymore. So I’m just going to have to start living authentically.

Hunger gets me out of bed too. Try to find something that gets you excited to wake up for. Something small & easy that you look forward to. I hope you feel better after you get up and start doing stuff. Maybe you have depression. Listen to Mel and other positive people. I hope you feel better. ❤❤

Oh man me too. I feel you!!! I've been trying to shift my life to one that aligns more closely with my passion and purpose, but when I zoom out and look at what I am drawn to, I get frustrated because I dont know how that will translate to enough money to survive. Yet that fear of not being able to survive is what is keeping me stuck in survival mode and in circumstances that do not align with my passion or purpose at all. And so the cycle continues... until I break it. Somehow

@NikkiGregory With all due respect and kindness, most of us who feel that way are well aware of these suggestions you mentioned. And to be completey honest, they come off as being sort of toxic. Toxic positivity diminishes what a person is going through and doesnt allow them to sit with difficult feelings. And sometimes that's exactly what we need to do -- sit with those bad feelings and figure out why they're there. If we make them go away before we've listenes to their message, or drown them out with toxic platitudes of positivity, we might miss their message. That feeling of dread when we wake up every day is likely the universe letting us know that our life isn't in alignment with our true purpose. Having a positive attitude won't get us closer towards it; It simply makes it more tolerable to deal with being on the wrong path. I deeply appreciate the positivity you're trying to send; however, I encourage you to seek to understand people more than to shine a light for them when they are in a dark place. Why? Because we need to feel seen and heard and understood more so than given advice that we likely have already thought of and feel bad for not being able to make happen in our own life. Just a thought...

something that helps me alot (when i remember to do it) is to visualize waking up like cinderella. birds are flying around me helping me get up and its a beautiful day with the sun shining and im happy and energized. i feel happy and as i sit up in bed the morning is going great, a sweet blue bird brings me my workout shorts and they help me get dressed as i sing la di dahhh... i know this is so far from how i feel when i wake up - i have adhd and really really struggle with sticking with waking up but i swear this helps!! it sounds crazy but it helps~!!

I’ve just slithered! I was so busy concentrating on what Mel was saying and taking my iPhone with me to the bathroom to listen 🤦🏻‍♀️😂that I realised I was up and had forgotten the inevitable thoughts that arrived as soon as I realised I’m awake😊 At one point whilst crawling, I thought Mel was going to say ‘Gotcha! You’re out of bed now!!’ 😂 Thank you Mel ❤…love your podcasts anyway but thank you for going all in with this one for your listeners ❤️💕 Plus…normally I take my coffee back to bed with me, but before you said it, it felt taking it back to bed would undo everything, so instead, I’m sitting here in the living room on the sofa with the sun streaming through the window, ready to start my day 😊🙏

This really was eye opener for me. Mel, your vulnerability and honesty here helped me understand something. I was sexually abused by a family member over several years in my childhood. I’ve understood with therapy that is was the cause of my lifelong insomnia. By the way, the abuse was always in my bed at night. But, what this video showed me is my problem with getting out of bed in the morning is another manifestation of the abuse. They’re not separate problems. I’m going to try the slithering and see if it helps me. Thank you for sharing your therapist with us as well. So kind and generous.

This was a jaw dropping episode Mel, and I am sharing my story, (which I did with you 11 years ago~in which your reply helped me immensely). This technique works. How do I know? I did this, without knowing the technique, and “only” by intuition (my very fragile and weak soul, at that time), to physically “do” these mobility moves. - My horrific trauma caused me to “naturally” flow “just” like this. But…much, much slower. Sometimes I had to physically sleep on the floor (for reasons I will not go into), but will just say “after” the main problem left…I still found my self sliding out of the bed and crawling into the bathroom. Sometimes I could not make the crawling act in one ☝️ flow, but needed to stop halfway. But I did not stop.😌 It wasn’t until I listened to this episode that I realized what I had done “for myself” without knowing. ❤ These actions were the beginning steps to mentally and physically move forward. Again, I share this with you…”Mel”…and with you…her wonderful listeners, to offer encouragement and hope to know that this method worked for me. Keep moving forward dear ones! Know matter what the speed, just keep moving.😌❤️

Another thing I like to share. This video brought a tear to my eyes because i felt how much you love your therapist and how much she has helped you. I once had a therapist, knew her for gosh I think over 20 years. Anyway, she moved away, out of state. I didn’t see her consistently, only when I needed her the most. My brother committed suicide and I really needed her because I didn’t know how to process his passing. I felt alot of guilt. I proceeded to try to make an appointment only to find out she had moved away. I not only lost my brother but I lost my therapist. I felt so sad because she really got me, she knew so much about me. I didn’t feel that I could find another one like her so I dealt with my own pain, the best way I could. Never take your therapist for granted and when you find one that really gets you, hold on to them, you’ll find a really cool and caring person in them, not just because it’s their job but because they feel like a friend

This really hits, My mom passed away, my health failed all at once and need a double knee replacement so can’t stand and lost my job. It’s so hard to get up because I’m in pain and have trouble walking. I just got approved for disability but it’s not enough to pay my bills. I just feel hopeless. I’m single and have children. I have to keep going but I just want to stay in bed. Everything is a struggle. I’m so overwhelmed and just feel panic as I may lose everything. I just don’t know where to start as it’s just me and zero help. Fear has overtaken all my thoughts.

I so wish I knew this as a parent for my kids! Why don’t doctors (and therapists) tell us this if our kids are having trouble getting out of bed?! Thank you for sharing because making our kids get out of bed (like they tell you) according to this information, will just make it worse!

Mel, this was very helpful to me. It gives me hope bc your share resonated with me. Maybe THAT'S why I wake up with dread, resistance, and extreme heaviness. I thought it was my job that was the problem or an incompetence on my part at my job that needed resolving. But maybe it's something deeper, older. Thank you for being willing to bring us into your safe space and demonstrate this scenario! You've given me a gift today. THANK YOU MEL!! Melissa Lovelady

I have gotten a lot of good information and insights from Mel. This one is not for me, but thank you for sharing it with who can benefit. I am one of those (annoying) morning people, I love getting up, embracing the day, feeling high energy in the morning

This makes sense. Slow and low effort movements when you feel you can barely move.

Very raw and real☺ Mel, thank you for this unusual movement. When you were showing how to do this, it came to my mind; it almost seems like a birth at first ( slithering from under the sheets, like through the birth canal and out) than the laying and moving just after the birth. Little bit later the crawling that babys do. Just had that feeling. For sure I am going to try this.

@@rosemarylopez1520 I couldn't handle the anxiety so went to my doctor. She prescribed Sertraline, an SSRI, for me. The difference has been like day and night. No longer have anxiety. Just a suggestion.
