My 58 year old brother with learning disabilities has lived with me for 10 years, I have tried to get him interested in hobbies to no avail. When I started doing gluebooks, I asked him if he would like to try gluebooks because I have been doing his scrapbooking for him and he saves EVERYTHING. So he came up with some car magazines full of classic cars, so far we have made 2 books together. He really enjoyed it. I think mostly that I am giving him a lot of attention.

Gayle, Could you explain, how a glue book is to be used? How does it differ from a junk journal?

The way I use my glue book is that I glue in images, sayings, etc that inspire me. You can glue them in just to save or create collaged pages. After Christmas, I’ll have to have another session in my glue book so you can see me work in it. ❤️

Thank you for your videos. I find myself sucked into the process and forget what I was doing! If you want to know about rights of using the calendar or magazines or anything else you buy, it's called the First Sale Doctrine and official words from the U.S. Dept. of Justice are as follows: "The first sale doctrine, codified at 17 U.S.C. § 109, provides that an individual who knowingly purchases a copy of a copyrighted work from the copyright holder receives the right to sell, display or otherwise dispose of that particular copy, notwithstanding the interests of the copyright owner." Basically, if you buy it or they give it to you, you can make it into a physical product and sell it and they can't really say boo about it.
@gayleagostinelli_ct5 жыл бұрын
So do you think then, that Daphne’s Diary magazine can’t really say that we can’t use bits and pieces from their magazine to decorate our journals? ❤️
@dnash64065 жыл бұрын
Yep, absolutely. Amy Butler is a fabric designer and tried the same thing. All she did was make everyone mad, stop buying her fabric and that's when all the quilters found out about 1st sale doctrine (including me). They can say it, but you are free to ignore it. As long as you're not copying the pages but using the originals that you purchase, they've got their money. Time to start ripping apart those magazines now??? @@gayleagostinelli_ct

Isn't Daphne's Diary a UK based magazine? I don't know if the first sale doctrine applies to copyrighted goods manufactured outside the US.

@@AndreiiArt11 I hadn't thought of that - so, of course, I had to check! It applies to all goods sold in the U.S. Makes sense, since just about everything is made outside the U.S. and we wouldn't be able to use or resell anything if that was a limitation. Petal Passion Crafts I always loved books and reading but never had many books of my own and luved at the library. But we had books from earlier decades. As a matter of fact, Keeko was a book I remember as a child because I misplaced it and got in BIG trouble because I had to pay a 10 cent fine, a LOT of money in 1966 lol...didnt get an ice cream sandwich for two weeks. It is funny that in like 20+ years of scouring chilrens books I never came across a copy and Gayle has had two! I had a knack for finding rare out of print books that were in demand among homeschoolers or other books as well and sold them on homeschool curriculym boards online.

I jammed mine first time I used it on chipboard and they sent me another! The hubs fixed the first one so I had an extra and ended up giving that one away. Number three, it's fun watching you put these together. I always jump into things and devise my own methods, and then with KZbin, I get to see how others do things and learn so much. Gayle, I learn a lot when I watch you select the fabric, the pages, the embellishments, etc. I learn how to do my journals better watching you go through your process.....seriously!

Your old valentines from 1960s are in public domain...even if they were copyrighted to begin with. For anything published before 1977 IF and only if copyright wasn't renewed, pass into public domain. Disney lobbied the Congress to pass a law in the late 90s that changed the length of time before something passes unto public domain. That is why you see those old Aunt Martha iron on embroidery transfers for sale on digital downloads in Etsy and other places. By the time the copyrights came up for renewal, housewives weren't sitting around in the evening listening to the radio and embroidering doilies and tea towels etc. TV ended that and us Boomer gals, if we were taught to embroider at all plied that skill embroidering peace signs and flowers on our jeans. 😉 So many passed into public domain, only to make a comeback a generation later.

Here. What ya'll do is called 'derivative work', and 'fair use' I believe. This fits: www.legalzoom.com/articles/what-are-derivative-works-under-copyright-law
