Thank you for making videos like these! They are more helpful then you could possibly know. And needed now more then ever with EPA scapegoat rule hanging and crackdowns on Cobb, etc. You are going to see a lot more interest in open source tuning in the very near future. Especially especially when it comes to e85, and CEL shut offs and bypassing. With all the major polluters out there, the fossil fuel industry, big shipping, the cruise industry, airlines, military, etc., they go after the small, and arguably insignificant Enthusiast Tuner, and hobby market, who’s cars are probably burning cleaner than their factory counterparts. And I’m sure, this is only the beginning of the war on ICE technology, and it’s eventual demise. I could go on, but suffice it to say, they’ve left us no choice but to go underground to accomplish our goals and needs until they figure out their greed structure. And it’s guys like you who are helping many of us to make our own choices, with knowledge and confidence. And for Thank I thank you sincerely.

Personally I just like arming people with knowledge and making things easier for the next person. I never really thought about the real impact that it could have beyond that and I'm glad you painted the picture for me. You need the right definitions paired with the tune file you've been provided. You also should keep it to just the definition for your car CAL ID. Don't add any of the other definitions.

Should come with the tune files. Go to the Open Flash Performance website to request for your link to download the latest off the shelf tune files and the definitions for them.

hey so you might not know the answer to my problem but its worth a shot. When I try to use the "upload data" tab on Open flash manager, it gives me an error of "Unhandled exception" do you know how i could possibly fix this issue?

I would love to be able to turn down the revs when my 86 first starts up and idles.

On cold start idle the car does reduce timing which makes it grumbly and louder than usual. This seems to be more of the noise compared to the revs alone. I've read that if you poke your accelerator, it will turn this off. Alternatively, there are forum articles which describe what parameters to adjust in tuning to adjust the cold start revs and timing so that it isn't making so much noise. You will also want to turn off a particular DTC because these adjustments tend to cause the car to think something is wrong and it throws your check engine light on.

Any tips how to help my advance multipler? It’s been dropping and lowest it went to .45 I know 1. Means good but highest it’s been is .7 anything to I can change to help with that?

Honestly I'm not an expert but I'd start with checking if it stays that way when running a new tank of fuel from a different gas station then troubleshoot further from there. Are you running one of the OTS maps, unmodified?

@@RRCsteve yes I was running stage 2 plus unmodified and it would drop that low but using different gas made a Little change. I changed it to a pop tune that I edited and the adv multiplier was almost 1

I can't get anything to pop out in my ecu definition manager once I press it and find where I have the files I'm not sure if I am suppose to unzip . I'm kinda loss

The definition files are in XML format. If you go to OFT's website and go to downloads, and grab the GT86 OTS tunes. Unzip that folder. The defs are in the XML folder. Select the correct one for your car from RomRaider from that folder.

It's my understanding there are no definitions done yet for the most recent models. I could be wrong. Either way, I wouldn't recommend trying to work around this problem unless you know for sure you have the appropriate definition file for your particular car.

Currently my FT86 has installed EL tomei header, GReddy full exhaust system, and Custom open pot knn air intake, can i run OTS stage 2 plus tune? Because someone told me that the stage 2 plus tune only can apply with the stock air intake.

Russell, I believe that is correct based on this article. support.openflashtablet.com/support/solutions/articles/42000033273-openflash-performance-off-the-shelf-v4-0x-stage-1-2-2-and-2-e85-hardware-requirements I believe you have to fix your MAF scaling in the tune to work correctly with an aftermarket intake. I would guess there's probably articles about how to do this in the ft86 forums or people there who might be able to point you in the right direction of how to do this.

what up guy you will need to open the particular tune you want based on the calibration code for your car, and edit the table using romraider which enables launch control and the speed at which it is enabled.

I seem to recall that you only want to use the files available from the Open Flash Tablet downloads section. I'm not certain Shiv has actually release OTS tunes which are compatible with the 2017+ models, but I could be mistaken.

What does the definitions file do....just curious, why you have to choose that BO1C file and then the image file that has the actual map?

This may just be a gross generalization in understanding. I'm sure someone else can chime in to correct me. The "tune" .bin files are just a file containing all of the bits of information (values) that need to be stored in memory. The definition file in XML "defines" all of those tables and where those values are actually located in memory. The ECU probably just looks at a certain location in memory to get these values. Think of the definition file as a spreadsheet with all of the columns filled out for what each value does. Then the tune files are the actual raw data that will get matched up with those columns.

Hey don't know if you're still responding to these but Ill give it a shot. I downloaded my tunes of the website and loaded it onto rom raider but it says in the top left that the car is a 2017 Subaru brz but i have a 2019 gt86. Could the oft manager be wrong about my ecu?

Oof unfortunately I don't have any experience with the newer cars to be able to help you with that. Maybe someone on the ft86 forums, subreddit, or at open flash performance might know. I seem to recall that the newer cars had to use a different tune file and/or definitions. Maybe all of the newer cars are all considered 2017+ BRZ for the sake of simplification? Just a shot in the dark there.

Shambler, i got question, ok my frs 2013 i buy the SBD-500x-V3 turbo kit and i will install it soon, how do i tune it with the openflash tablet? is that plug and play if i have a turbo??? or do i still need call and buy programming license to a (tuner/my tuner/call a tuner) to tune my car?

I'm not the right person make a custom tune. At this point I'm only really comfortable making minor changes here and there from the OTS tunes provided from OFT. I've only done some minor mods to improve drive-ability and get some exhaust burbles/pops. That's it.
