That's not a good advice. Confining yourself within the bubble of your own mind/knowledge/beliefs isn't good. Many times these _beliefs_ aren't factual in real life. I don't care how smart someone is. They need to read a lot, experience a lot and _still_ listen to other people. Even listen to what "newbies" or "beginners" have to _say_ . Not necessarily to take what they say as "gospel", or in search for a "step-by-step" guide... but at least to inspire new ideas/solutions to develop in your brain...... or to give you a reality check on what can actually be done and/or should be done regarding a particular point....etc. What you should have said was something along these lines: *Stop being that dependent on other people and what they say. Some of you are addicted to spending tons of money on courses, or just asking questions all the time, while not actually doing the work. Be more "action oriented".*

I can't say I am guilty of making the perfect plan. My very first business, the plan was on a napkin, took 10 mins to write and I still got funding for it. I ran it for 6 years before selling it and forming a new business with a small group of friends, that had no plan at all and I was part of it for 3 years before getting bored, selling my shares to my friends and moving on to making my third company... The plan was just a bunch of drawings and squiggles.. Now I am making my third company and I am taking it seriously this time. 100 hours and still working on marketing. Still not over planning though. It is really casually written.

Passion carries your business further, you might think your making enough money and dont need anymore, maybe you want to do something else, and start from scratch. if you did what you loved tho you wouldnt stop you'd just keep going. I suggest you learn how to properly decipher what someone is saying and understand he's trying to teach not brag.

Home services is the one industry that can still survive without dedicating a lot of time online. Why? Because it is very much word of mouth driven. What a great list of “Do Nots”. It is particularly relevant since a lot of people are wasting time starting businesses they have zero interest in; just so that they can make money. I guess we sometimes forget that growing a business takes time and full of twists and turns. In reality, there are two types of businesses to start: 1) A business centred around your passion and hobby 2) A business based on exploiting an opportunity. Most internet based businesses that people spend time on are the type (2) which requires entrepreneurial flair, web knowledge, SEO etc. Many who start such we end up quitting because the “5 Clicks To ...” promised will not happen overnight. When problems occur (which it will) people simply give up. But if you start a type (1) business; in a space you love, you can weather the pain to the reach the other side - success. If I am to add one more “Do Not” it will be - “Don’t Borrow Money To Start A Business”! Even though I teach people how to raise money; I always try to persuade them not to borrow money or at least reduce the amount they want to borrow because borrowing costs, it is stressful and most times an unnecessary waste. If you need $50k before you generate your first sale you probably need to avoid that business. Hence, I agree with Evan when he says - “Start a service business first not a product business.” I will only add - start a product business if it is not costing a fortune. Meaning with an amount you can afford to lose!

Great video, Evan! I only disagree with you on 1 point which is that "you don't need a website". You do! And it is worth the small investment. For as little as 16 euros a year and for 5 years it is around 60 euros I have webhosting plus a domain name, which gives me 5 years to make it a success. With adsense only i earn back my investment, so it is free. Especially when you want to sell your service you need a great website that offers lots of free quality information to attract clients! Having a great domain name is important, short and to the point. Promotion is free! But you need the domain and website. In Wordpress anyone can build a great website. Study the do's and don'ts before you launch and you're on your way to amazing success!

I agree with you Anja. When people contact me through my website, most of the time they are ready to spend money. If you had a talk with a person you just meet and is not about the bussines you have but you want to keep in contact, you give the your bussines card, next thing you know someone else is calling on a referral from that person. I admit this videos have good information but is completly based on his experience. No everyone is the same. I like to be organized, so i will get a space in my house that am not using and repurpose it as an office, imaging you are looking for an invoice and all you see around is grocery list and kids homework. When starting a bussines not always one size fits all.

I was considering making several versions of a Mexican Sweet tamale. Tamales are big around the holidays at least here in So Ca.The sweet ones are not that popular I believe that is because they are not that attractive. I figured a way to do that. I have reconsidered though.I really enjoy cooking (for family/friends I've learned) but I decided that I do not want to be doing this on a regular basis. I would have to hire people to make them for me and get a kitchen to do this. I want to start something that does not require much capital .I am willing to put in the hours required but I must enjoy doing what I'm working on to keep me motivated. So #1,3,7 all hit home for me. I'm taking a step back. I do have an opportunity for a service type business that I will explore more. I'll stay in touch. Thanks for all the stuff you put out by the way.

Someone should start filming themselves and regardless of the outcome post it in you tube, like a whatever happens vlog, people take the time to video themselve talking about things we dobt even know are true and because they are enthusiastic while they talk about we belive them, and the end we get misguided or discouraged and quit trying altogether. A failure only means what you want it to mean not what a you tuber thinks it is.

Dude I am going through the process of starting a business right now. Evan is 100% correct on this. If you are serious about starting a REAL business and not simply be self employed (two totally different things) it takes an ungodly amount of time and energy and you will not see any real money for the first few years on average. While money is obviously important its not everything. People start businesses to be to be free and for passion not just to make quick cash. If money is your sole motivator you are much better off just working under someone else and I am speaking as someone who has both worked within the corporate and entrepreneurial markets. Being an entrepreneur has to be something you MUST do not simply want to or you will definitely fail. If you just want money go search for something on indeed.com. However if you feel deep within your soul what we do then Welcome to the club. Whatever you decide I wish you the best of luck

Evan Carmichael Could you do a video on different types of businesses, one can start with little to no money, capital, experience etc. Could you also make a video with Good suggestions for a new type business to start. Perhaps, matching personality traits with the best choice of business. I hope you can understand my delima and request. I'm a person that wants to start a business but don't know the best business to start as #1)I'm one that needs to find fulfillment in my work. #2) I also value having time to spend with my family.#3) Enough money to work ONLY in my business with no extra job needed to supplement. I know that owning a business is hard work, often times more difficult than working on a job but are there any (easy to manage and maintain type businesses) that offer the 3 aforementioned desires I have. Please advise.

I'm starting a service based business, so I was so happy when you suggested this be the first business to start. I totally agree. No overhead, except your time. But I'm stuck at the numbers. The best business entrepreneur "knows her numbers". I don't and I got some buzz about my business, but have not solidified material cost, labor, hours per job, cost per job, insurance, worker's comp, taxes . . . my head hurts. But right now I need to get my knowledge of numbers straight. There is another bright side for me after listening to your video. I'm starting this business to make money, yes, but it's primarily a service for teachers and children.

When I started out nearly two decades ago, no one in my social circle was business oriented either. I hanged out at online forums (related to business/marketing..etc. very informative forums), where I got to communicate and build friendships with other _new_ people, who shared the same business/action-oriented mindset. There were newbies, intermediates and experts. We shared and received tips/advises among each other. Case-studies and all...etc. Nowadays, the internet has evolved a lot and it's much easier to reach similar like-minded people man.

so on point my bro.. i was 14 yr old high school drop out. i established my business Healthy Organic Products a year ago.. invested my dol money by the hundreds, jumped right in with launchin a product that was unique triditional moari medicine 100% organic, we done well then our product sat on the shelf gathering dust, i then lauched a service in reflexology, massage of the feet while using and promoting our product and selling them also, i am now just putting together my business plan as i know i use the profits from my service and products to support my family,, now i have potential employees around the world to sell our products but im re thinking as to what you had just said in this video about partnership been like a marrage,, an as a 27 yr old devorsed solo mum i take relationships very very seriously.. so thank you for that as i was just keen for people to sell our product out there without investing first. also my question is, because my product is not mainstream medicine and i have no certificates for my practice of reflexology,, would that hurt my business in terms of funding from other sources???? thank you for the vids and knowledge.. honestly top man for sharing. shayna maats

well one of the most effective ways to engage,and boost your sales is creating website and an app to brand your business and am an expert I can help you with this services
@nighz2cupeeps7794 жыл бұрын
Okay so, to summarize that up : 1) Picking the wrong business --> Be genuine and be passionate about your business rather than focusing on earn money because sometimes focusing on earning money too much will lead to a failed business and your vision for your business might become blurred. 2) Making a "Perfect" plan --> Focus on feedback from other customers as that is another way to grow your business other than relying too much on the "perfect" plan for your business 3) Spending money --> Be your own business advertisement rather than spending a lot of your money on ad commercials, business cards, or billboards as you'd have to concern with its costs. 4) Doing it alone --> Sometimes having others to volunteer to help you will lessen the costs of hiring workers 5) Being in a wrong partnership --> Co-operation and evaluation of skills is key in a business partnership 6) Operating in a bubble --> Think outside the box, and learn from other entrepreneurs than focusing on what you've learned. It's best to ingratiate what other entrepreneurs have learned on your own business. 7) Start a product --> Sometimes starting in a service-based business will help you understand what kind of age-group you're going for and the type of desire that people would want from your product you're planning to sell.

Thanks for the summarization #Believe :) #BTA1637 Veljko

There's no such thing as the "perfect plan" because #1 - you might realize how risky starting your own business is and stop, #2 - your plans never pan out because "life" happens and you'll have to adapt. And I think that's key...start with your minimum viable product, put it out into the market and see how the market reacts and then iterate, pivot...just keep going from there! Great video!

I can give an Amen to #5. Another factor is that Life happens. Times change. Personally, I never suggest a partnership of any kind. But instead, recommend time-bound win-win agreements. That way if life happens and a partner needs to move, take care of personal situation, etc., no hard feelings. No need to deal with shares, etc. The agreement could be annual so at max, you are stuck with someone for a single year versus indefinitely. If everything works out, then the win-win profit arrangement makes everyone happy.
