I've watched a LOT of 'how to get into manga/comics/anime/animation/books/fantasy/sci-fi' etc. videos on KZbin, mainly because these are things I'm passionate about and I like to see whether those videos are good recommendations for my friends. Honestly, this is one of the most elaborate and, as you said at the beginning, you touch on a lot of things that most of these videos don't mention. Great job, great vid! (Now I'm off to check out the rest of your channel and probably subscribe)

I would love a video about how to get rid of Yellowing! I agree that collecting can be very addicting! As a manga tip, I would say read the manga digitally then purchase the physical copies if you enjoy the series. Also collect what you like and don’t feed into the hype. You don’t need to buy a series just because it’s hot even though you don’t like it personally.
@littofox2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you can't get rid of yellowing pages, as that's just something that will happen when paper ages regardless. However you can slow it down by keeping your books out of direct sunlight and controlling the humidity levels around them.
@jollama2 жыл бұрын
@@littofox Fine sandpaper can be used as a short term solution as while it does remove yellowing, it also removes a small amount of the paper as well

I started collecting in 2017 but I only got my first part time job last year, so for a long time I was only getting manga as gifts (only getting 3-6 volumes a year) and that really helped me see the value I guess? Now that I can buy whatever I want I still have the mindset of “how worth it is to buy this series?” I’d recommend starting off collecting small for that reason.

I love how you highlighted limiting yourself through your storage (or lack of it) so you don't amass a crazy collection that isn't as curated as you'd like. I've been reading digital for 5 years and now moved to physical as I got some more money. I noticed that series I enjoyed digitally I did not enjoy physically and vice versa. Digital I prefer romance and action series but for physical I only like comedy and slice of life. Best advice, don't think about getting manga for "Collecting". Just get stuff you enjoy reading without caring about others. I regret getting so much One punch man just because I liked it digitally or wanted a more common series. I would of much preferred to spend that money elsewhere on some lesser known comedy manga. The advice of not filling a gap is good for all aspects of life. All people do it. You see a space and on impulse you buy something to fill it. Yeah, just try not to do this. That space will fill naturally over time with stuff you generally enjoy. Great video and some great advice

Great video as always, love your content! A few things I thought could be added: Storage: the ikea ‘Hemnes’ bookcases are really good as well. Also the ‘skögsta’ wall shelves are great for manga and can be used in spaces that wouldn’t usually be used (because I’m tall my shelves are near the top of my wall, definitely a space saver) Buying manga: I recommend getting a box set where possible to save money. However, people buying volumes as they come out support the manga industry and increase the likelihood of a series being continued through the sales of physical volumes.

I'm right there with you with series size, the only series i collect that is 20+ volumes is golden kamuy, everything else especially shounen i just read on the app since i usually want to binge it and theres no way im gonna buy every volume. usually the physical volumes i buy are either not available online or very old or not many volumes. right now im collecting sayonara zetsubou sensei and its definitely out of print but its readily available second hand for like 9$ after shipping. books a million also tends to say they have out of print books in stock that they don't actually have nor will get, i ran into that problem with fire punch so def be careful with them.

I'll add to, dont be afraid to return manga you don't click with. Especially big box bookstores. Its not often i pick up a series and its not what i like but every so often i do and it doesnt have to stay in your collection if youd rather have that money go to a series ur working on completing or maybe you've been waiting on. Just take it back.

I recently got into it and have put the volumes next to my new ones but since I didn't take care of Tokyo Ghoul properly the first 7 volumes are yellow while my 3 new ones are white. Collecting? Just read what you feel you will enjoy. Don't buy the whole collection of a certain manga, be it One Piece because of the covers or colorful spines or Death Note for the attractiveness in it's box. I do like Dead Dead Demon. I saved 9 of 10 volumes. I did not like where the series was going with Vol 10 so I donated to library. I have about 7 of One Piece because of the art work. I am rereadiing Bakuman. If I like it, I'll buy the indvl. volumes. I bailed out on Hunter x Hunter after vol. 2. Advice: Don't be a completist. Many viewers get "bookshelf envy" when watching youtube influencers. When you or daddy has to put together a bookshelf or run out of room in the childs bedroom then that will tell you where to begin and stop.
