You two make such a good team! What you are doing is fine, if there are any issues years in the future, you can address them at that time, as you stated.

I'm an advocate for doing things that I can do rather than paying someone to do it for me. At the end of the day/project I've learned new skills. But there is a point and tasks where a pro makes more sense. You do your research that's the way to go at it!

You know what the say about "opinions", especially on social media. Do what you think is right for you and you'll be fine. You're gonna make mistakes from time to time and that's ok. This is how we learn. Everything looks fantastic so far!!

Ive got three stumps in the garden. I cut the trees down 7 years ago. They’ve still not rotted away and this is rainy England. You really wont need to worry about for a long time.

Fairhope is my home town. I haven’t lived there for many years but when I was younger I helped a friend cut down many trees over time. I cut a large pine tree on my property and in the six years between cutting it and moving away I never experienced issues. I think in the case of a pine tree the resin in the stump preserves the stump for a longe time. I know that pine stumps left above ground last for many years. I chipped fat wood off of pine stumps and it is a tough job. You did good. You always seem to use common sense and that will serve you well. Have fun.

Looks good to me. I don’t know how fast people expect wood to rot when it’s sunk 6’ underground. The wood you cut down above ground rots faster and it still takes years to rot entirely. That stump underground is gonna take a century to rot away even 50%

There isn’t ever really any water in there surprisingly. I thought we might have to when we bought the place, but after talking to neighbors and having several multi day storms, no water has ran through there. We had 11” of rain last week and had zero water in the bottom.

surprised there isn't any mesh in 6" of concrete, unless it has fiber mesh in the concrete. Take a 1/2 or 3/4 inch copper pipe about 3 foot long. drill small holes and cap one end. Put a garden hose connector on the other end and hook it to a hose, turn on water, and start shoving it in the area thats going to sink, this will wet it and compact it so that you can finish filling it. We did this when they cut a new sewer entrance to my house... got rid of that mound in two weeks. I built a dry concrete block wall about 4 rows high and filled the holes with mud and ran a hose to in it like a vibrator in wet concrete... wall is still standing after 5 years.

Hmmm, have you bridged your Damp Proof Membrane for the house brickwork? The concrete shouldn't go right up to the house brick, should be a drainage gap, preferably filled with gravel so that rain water on your patio will not soak into your brick & cause damp inside the house! (Same reason Molly dug a trench for gravel around the rest of the house)

Please don't paint the house! Brick built is more common in the UK, so we experience proper upkeep more. If the house is painted you will change how it breaths, which can lead to damp issues (depending on where you are based). If you want to hide the brick, some free standing lattice in front may work better.

I can't believe you haven't got any mesh in the concrete!!! Err, you did say it get mad in the comments 😋😂 Hmm, just thinking about your stump issues 🤔 Well, it's kind of the spring so it's sap would have been rising so what you've done if bury a huge chunk of pine full of sap. From what I've learnt recently, this happens in regular pine stumps and the sap goes really hard and it can be chopped up and sold as "Fatwood" fire starters, which are meant to be the best thing to start a fire. What it means gor you is that you will more then likely end up with a fossilized tree stump buried in your back garden and due to the sap slowing decay the only movement you should see will be just soil and NOTHING to do with your stump!!! ....... Unless Dylan can't get a fire going in 10 years time, remembering reading this comment and digs up the garden again 😂🤣😂🤣😂. Re the thickness of your concrete pore, the guy's whole did it kind of do it for a living and if they say it will be fine that sounds good to me. At the end of the day they were missing out on a sale of the mesh. They definitely have the right attitude if they have the integrity to be happy to miss out on the commission as they know it wasn't needed. Any locals shout be asking for the concrete guy's phone number! 😂👍👍👍👍👍👍

Love you guys and the success you’re having but gonna unsubscribe for now and check in again sometime in the future. Interested in your woodworking business but not in home maintenance. Between our property and helping various neighbors also on acreages of various sizes I get enough of that ha ha. Woodworking and the details of running a woodworking business is super interesting to me though. Seems right now you’re just documenting anything you’re doing in life. Maybe in an effort to grab folks searching for home improvement info or how to work chainsaws and tractors? I don’t know. And don’t blame you for the shotgun approach. But not for me. Once the dream shop is built and you start woodworking again I will be a very happy and willing subscriber.
