Starting zones to AVOID! - Teek & Tormax - Everquest TLP

A quick video looking at starting zones in particular ones you SHOULD avoid!
not all starting zones are made equally and these ones in my opinion have issues!

Congratz on being compeltely wrong. My friend and I started a Dwarf Cleric and Gnome Enchanter and met up in GFay. Mobs were spawning like crazy. We had 0 issues getting mobs and leveling. It's a great place to actually start leveling a character.

If I make a character in Erudin, Ill run them to Paineel noobie grounds to level.

I love the GFay start. I always get a group at orc hill and then crushbone. Then I go to Unrest and stay there a while. Just those few zones all relatively close get me pretty far.

Best simple power level starting zone, with Druid Buffs you can get level 10 in 2 hours running the goblin camps

Best bet is find a guild that matches your time zone ! Get in the discord and ask. Eq guilds are typically good communities at helping new players and showing them the ropes!

@@taylormitchell6118 there will always be there. It is a way they make krono to fund live accounts. But they added a delay on mob spawn for when you can attack. Sadly enough i do think its going to be another bad year for box armies!

@@TBCNexus Vaniki is/was the most casual-friendly TLP. Because you're 10 levels lower than normal, the autogrant gives you almost all of your AAs that matter, eliminating the need for endless AA grinding. Once you hit max level, you're basically good to go. And now that it's deeper in the timeline, it's insanely casual-friendly in the sense that you can just get level 110 tradeskill gear and wear it on a fresh level 1 character, haha. There's no feeling quite like having 20k hp at level 20 while sporting a weapon that hits for 8k damage every time it procs. Each proc death touches your target while you're leveling up. :P

@@TBCNexus Later on, it does become the only starting city that a druid can teleport directly to. But yeah, it's awful during PoP. To get to a PoK book, you have to traverse the entirety of Qeynos Hills to get to the book in North Qeynos, which even with a 64 Velocity Fast mount takes painfully long.

I always go Erudite. Since we have DB Bottle of Buoyancy, Bottle of Speed, and Bottle of Endless air that cost only 80 DB points each, you can easily get south Ro and North Ro and bind in Commons Tunnel until you hit level 12 and self-bind.

@@chrisgayler2733 what I mean is make erudite , create new persona of any class in Freeport, when if fp , switch back to erudite and hey presto you are an erudite in Freeport in less then 1 min!

@@TBCNexus I thought I was going to try to sell ports on Teek, which I haven't done much on past TLPs, but I'm sure a lot of people are going to put those same pieces together and use Personas for mobility. I think there may not be much of a market for ports from now on, haha.

Its quite funny when you panned through gfay near felwithe and all i saw was mobs no people 😂 In terms of the list if you pnly take in ro account the start of a tlp then yes gfay and def nek to avoid. Apart from that all the ones you mentioned are geat zones to start in, some of the best maybe apart from inno but then again you have guk right there. Plus big races usually have no problem with the water.

For overall mob density and visibility (which is important -- if you can't see the mobs, you can't find them to kill them), Qeynos is actually the best starting zone in the game. The problem is that there are a lot of people that compete for the mobs, plus your point about the remoteness of Qeynos stands (and Humans are objectively not a good race with their lack of night vision and mediocre stats). However, it's worth remembering: where you start only matters at the start, lack of night vision is only an issue until you get worn Faerune on all your helms (PoP), your racial stats only matter until you hit the stat cap circa PoP...but your Origin point is forever. :P Origin remains your last-ditch means of travel when all other travel clickies are on cooldown essentially forever on TLPs, unless you're a druid or wizard. Qeynos isn't a bad origin point, but the best one in the game is probably Kelethin because there's a PoK book right near the city. Just drop down and run over to it, and you're in PoK. If you're a bard, the book is only a few seconds of running away from your Origin point, which is quite handy. For this reason, I'm going to wait to make certain personas on Teek until Crescent Reach exists, just so that I can have that as an Origin point, instead of being forced to run a gnome rogue through Ak'Anon, for example.

I love Gfay. It's probably one of if, if not my favorite zone in the whole game, but it's hard to disagree with you here. For as many great things as there are about it, the mob density is just so low and there are so many players that start there, it can be a bit crazy. But at the same time, there are a ton of groups that start up there and from the moment your fresh level 1 pops into the zone you can find people grouping up to take out mobs in the newbie area, so it's really social. But I still don't know if that counter balances the fact that mobs are just too sparse and player count is just too high.

Id agree. My first char was HiElf Wizard and spent a LOT of time in Gfay. Hell that was Sept 1999. Needed every bone chip and scrap I was able to find. Orc Hill near Kelethin is another spot I spend a lot of time. I think they got rid of multiple zones in Felwithe, where its all one zone as opposed 2 or 3 like in 99. Nice nostalgia..

Iskar seems like a good option, with many mobs and adjacent zones that can easily get you level 30.

All this is subjective... If you are in a static group, any zone is doable, what really matters is where you go from there.

I like your videos. Its only slightly disingeneous to rename the ones you made for the last the TLP to apply to this one, one issue is that this round includes Kunark, although probably no one would put Cabilis as the worst, although maybe LoIO would be good to reference as a crap xp zone compared to FOB.

Tox didn't make the list? It's all the problems of Qeynos with the addition of an ocean for some extra loading. Toss in some over population because highest int is highest int and it just stinks.

Paineel is a *crazy* good newbie zone. If they had Warrens open from the get-go, Odus would hardly be beatable for the first 15 or so levels. But after the Paineel newbie area peters off, then you're kinda stuck having to go elsewhere and that journey can really suck.

I would advise just avoiding the entire server. FTE is a terrible mechanic and if this server is popular enough it could mean FTE being rolled out to other servers, as they said. It should be avoided at all costs to protect the integrity of the game. I swear to god, if I end up with FTE on Mischief because you guys couldn't go play P99 for your classic urges then I'm going to be so pissed off.
