I think I'm there with you. I was there when All Good Things was a brand new episode and remember having my mind blown back then. I still have to finish the first season of Picard (I stopped watching it figuring I'd get around to it later). When heard rumors of Q I was like "no way". I haven't watched any of season 2. All these Q scenes are spoilers. And I am STILL hyped to watch this new storyline. He sounds exactly the same. INCREDIBLE... as if 20 plus years haven't passed. And he still steals the scenes that he's in. Still that cheeky @sshole f*cking with Picard. This really makes me want to catch up. I know we're all getting older, so I'm trying to enjoy these actors before they go to the grave. They're really good sports to come back and entertain us (I'm sure a tons of cash may have swayed them as well, but you know what I mean).

@@MS-tl6hc If you get yourself away from the noise factory of the internet and watch the show on its own merits, its actually better than many shitposters would have believe. In fact, if you can avoid that source of information and the hypervigilance about the race of cast members and "wokeness" and just be carried along by story itself.... it's an action adventure show with an interesting plot and amazing special effects. Not necessarily the best Trek, but definitely not the worst. In the grand scheme, there were individual episodes of TOS and TNG that were worse than any episode of Picard to date. We just tend to look at those through rose colored glasses.
@MS-tl6hc2 жыл бұрын
@@StevenIngram I hear you on taking the internet's opinion with a grain of salt. I think I stopped watching by the second last episode of the first season. I wasn't as triggered as the internet was. Where I left it, picard and the gang were worrying about romulans closing in on the planet with all of data's children (iirc). But I've heard about data's death, I've seen some thumbnails of other clips so I see riker's going to show up again and I've been hearing about Picard and synthetic body. It hasn't been enough to ruin my experience with that universe and what it is. It really more makes me appreciate that we're getting older and I can see where life has changed (when you notice things from tng looking dated). Major stuff has happened since the early 1990s. Technological growth, changing politrix country to country. The invention of KZbin has been an absolute gamechanger. All Good Things I would argue is one of the greatest series finales of any show to date (yes, someone in the future after I'm dead is reading this and thinking tng is dated trash - forgive us, this is the entertainment we had at this point in history - and it was absolutely worth the price of admission). I always liked how it tied back to the first episode and tasha yar was a good sport to come back from the dead. I always hear fans decrying best of both worlds to be the best. I wasn't watching tng till a little later, but looking back on it, I can imagine the dedicated viewer went through torture having to wait a whole summer to see what happened after riker ordered worf to fire. What's nice about it is that show has aged so gracefully. We can still talk about some of the human existential questions it brought up. But I am going to catch up on Picard. To be honest, the only thing that made me raise my eyebrow 🤨 was the accents of the tal shiar romulans. Absolutely see things going woke... but we're wise enough to notice it... and I can see the world is shifting away from broadcast television along the way. Social media gives us so much more opportunities to bounce ideas off each other wherever we got a spot on this rock. And I 100% agree picard first season is not the worst the star trek world has to offer. I never made it past the first season of enterprise (sorry quantum leap, wherever you are in the world. I know you did your best), disliked more Voyager episodes than the ones I liked (but to scorpion is still a legendary cliffhanger). DS9 was good enough for me. The internet needs to chill the fuck out.

I kind of just rewatched this and the look in Jean Luc's eyes and tone of his voice when he spits out "G******* Q!". It's not fear; not surprise, doesn't even seem to be plain anger...just a dark cold rage that Q would actually show up and be the cause of his disorientation. And the return look from Q...not the jovial, prankster Q, or even the arrogant condescending Q. I get the sense that Q senses Picard's almost venomous greeting and turns menacing in his reply. His slow methodical approach to Picard and the measured, deliberate speech. I felt the tension between them and I'm sitting here eating an orange. John DeLancie and Patrick Stewart, even in the older ages, are masterful.

my guess is that this is the real Terran empire as it would have evolved without Q's involvement. Remember that without Q, first contact would have taken place without Enterprise E in place and thus gone really differently. probably more like in "Enterprise". so no Federation and no Spock to plant ideas of disarmament, thus a strong empire. Great job of de-aging John deLancie, and then in a snap of the fingers he is "caught up" to be an age appropriate for the 30 years difference. Also, having Q again give Picard a "second chance" ala Tapestry (ST:TNG) again will prove interesting. I just hope the writers now have watched that ST:TNG episode and understand the story and its complexities of having a second chance to change something (mistake or otherwise) in your life and the ripple effects it can have. As Q said "... the very end of the road not taken." A play on the Robert Frost poem "The road not taken." I may have to subscribe now to see this season and just ignore ST:D (disaster) all together.
