I always just assumed he got busy and joined the Alliance after Yavin, and never got around to it, then by Empire he then says "if I don't pay of Jabba I'm a dead man" and tries to leave to do it, and then the rest happens.

Funny how people never nitpicked this the way they nitpick the new trilogy. How is this any different than Holdo not telling Poe her plan. Both seem like convenient plot holes on the surface that can be easily explained away in your mind if you let it.

Very interesting! I always thought about this and thought it was because the reward money was paid in rebellion issued credits so Han possibly had a difficult time exchanging it! I read in legends material that some friendly worlds would fairly exchange them 1:1 while unfriendly worlds would demand a rate of 25 rebellion credits to 1 on the black market making them worth significantly less! I’m not sure where the Hutts had a stance on this issue. The hutts were pretty much neutral but seemed more closer in association with the Empire than the Rebellion during pre-Han Solo bounty period so I’m guessing they would give an unfair rate! Seems like Han lost his stroke of luck as one of the best smugglers Jabba has ever hired. Lesson learned is to never chase a dollar if your life is at risk or in this case credits! I find it very intriguing to learn that humans would work for Hutts just for a credit! Not all slave girls were slaves and were actually employed by Jabba! I can’t imagine a hot human girl ever wanting to entertain a creature like a Hutt just for a paycheck but I guess humans are much more desperate for money in the Star Wars Galaxy!
