It is important to note why Nemik's manifest ends with, "try." It is a deliberate reference (on the part of the writer, not the character) to Yoda's, "Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try." Nemik's plea contradicts Yoda's mandate in order to describe the fundamental difference between the struggle of the Jedi/elite versus the struggle of the masses of "blue collar" rebels. "Do" is the mantra of the brave who go to war that they manifest their destiny in victory. "Try" is the cry of those oppressed who, in the face of unfathomable odds, have no choice but to fight.

I agree. And this is all stuff I am talking about in my manifesto breakdown video. Thank you
@hunterpdx70612 жыл бұрын
I think that Yoda's admonition to Luke to "Do, or do not" is more about teaching Luke how to use the Force. It depends upon confidence and knowing what you attempt will happen. I don't see any contradictions between Nemik and Yoda. Two different statements for two different situations, people and perspectives.
@dasc0yne2 жыл бұрын
@@hunterpdx7061 I didn't mean to imply that Yoda was wrong. His words were absolutely applicable to Luke's journey. It isn't as relevant for folks like Nemik, and it simply highlights the difference between the struggle of the elite Jedi rebels and the rest of the rebellion.
@doc7000 Жыл бұрын
@@dasc0yne There is another way to look at it, Yoda's ideas led him to shame as he retreated to a swamp planet. Because in his mind he failed and as a result he gave up until Luke came around. With Luke he didn't want to "try" because of the excuses that he gave but really I feel that he came to fear Skywalkers, at the end of the day Yoda tried and the downfall of the Empire was the result. It can be looked at as a lesson of being humble, though it took Yoda going from being the head of the jedi council and the one who kept peace in the republic to what he became to understand. The view that people of note can just manifest their destiny is nothing but hubris.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Karis Nemik’s words since Andor concluded. Please do create a video about what he had to say.
@WD-414692 жыл бұрын
We see Nemik incorporate his lessons learned into the manifesto in real time, when he has to rationalize Cassian’s presence at Aldani. He has to make it make sense, that a mercenary might be necessary to accomplish an end goal, such as the heist. It’s a lost opportunity, that he was taken out of the story so early. It would have been a great way to tie a bow onto the various story arcs, to have Nemik read aloud his synopsis of the recent events, witness his process, and include us in the creation of the manifesto, so that we have an emotional investment in the tragedies and circumstances that create the written words. This could have been done in a beautiful way, without spoon feeding the audience. To shed a light on the various machinations and rationalizations that go into justifying death, sacrifice, the mental gymnastics necessary to win, in a game if war, where there are no rules, but the ones we create for ourselves. We need to see ourselves as righteous, and that takes effort. Really enjoying your channel, btw.

If you truly think about it, the show itself is the real manifesto here. It's being read to us. Nemik is the voice if the voice of the writers, and Cassian is supposed to be us. Like people always talk about how Cassian isn't really a good main character because he is so passive and introverted. But that makes him the perfect main character because it makes it very easy for yhe writers to put us into his shoes. Most people who watch this show are Cassians. Most people know about the problems in the world. Most people know about their own oppression but most people also think fighting is useless and would rather just be able to eat, sleep and have a roof above their head. It's why everything in the show feels so real despite being Sci fi. And it's why all the bad guys in yhe story are people who just do their jobs. Like you could make another Jeff Bezos bad show for example. But we've seen hundreds of those and it does nothing to us because we know that he is bad. But you could make a show about the regular Amazon worker who's never even seen Jeff Bezos outside of maybe his television appearance (this is why I think it's actually good that we didn't got to see Palpatine) that struggle with work and where their work struggles impact their daily lives which hit close to home. But then later the workers decide to go on a strike together. And this suddenly inspired the workers of Tesla to go on a strike, followed up by Mircosoft etc. This would make an actual difference because people watching this show will be told to take action.
@thimovijfschaft32712 жыл бұрын
Mon Mothma's role in the show is because we often rather result to vote politicians who try to improve things for us. And yes there is frequent debate on how much yhey actually mean what they say but the harsh reality is that it doesn't matter if they actually care about us or not because they are powerless regardless because the majority of the politicians do not care about us. They don't listen, and politics just go into endless circles of debates that take forever to get somewhere that mildly improves things, while the suffering doesn't wait. There is only one way out: we organize and we fight.

This is an interesting take but makes a lot of declarations and assumes a lot of intentions and states of mind that are not by any means unequivocal. You’re presenting a lot of things as fact that are barely even suggested. For example it is by no means at all clear that Andor thinks that the raid team are all selfish mercenaries- that is never shown or even suggested, it’s merely your take

Watch the scene. He’s content with what had transpired. It wasn’t until Skeen showed his true colors that made Cassian turn on the others.

@@STARWARS_FANATIC We don't even know that Skeen meant it. We don't know that Skeen wasn't testing Andor, and Andor (as is his wont) just went straight to the ultimate option of killing him.

Perhaps I need to watch it again, but I would have preferred *Nemik* stuck around a bit longer. He was so charismatic. Not a popular opinion, but IMO we spent too much time getting off Ferrix at the start. I thought the show was well made, but poorly paced overall. Just look at what shows could do with only 40 minutes. Or films with 90-120 minutes. I'm all for taking ones time...Just not wasting said time.
@hoos30142 жыл бұрын
The reason why the season ends on such a high note is that we spent that time in those early episodes learning not only about Cassian but about Maarva, B2, Bix, Brasso, and Ferrix in general. The head writer Tony Gilroy said in an interview, "You can't cash a check unless you put money in the bank."

The (communist and other far left ideologies) manifesto has come to stay in Star Wars and in other Hollywood franchises.
@STARWARS_FANATIC2 жыл бұрын
Well, it makes sense for this timeline. Not that it’s right or wrong. But who fought against fascism in Europe? It was communism for the most part. We seem to forget that and romanticize it into something it wasn’t.
@ShadowJedi5272 жыл бұрын
@@STARWARS_FANATIC Communism and national-socialism are almost the same totalitarian trash. For some strange reason, the far left authoritarianism is seen as cool and romanticized by the mainstream media. The western entertainment is on decline because Hollywood is prioriticing the (far left) message than entertaining their customers.

Communism, marxism, national socialism, socialism, are all forms of totalitarianism. The individual names mean nothing, they are mere semantics. The end result is the same, a subjugation of the people.
