If Vader really became that much weaker after revenge of the sith why didn't Palpatine replaced him with Luke. Instead he told Vader something like: The offspring Anakin Skywalker poses a great threat to us, we have to destroy him and Vader had to convince his master not to kill his son. Vader is the second most powerful Sith to ever live after Sidious. ROTJ Sidious is leagues above ROTS Sidious who is also leagues above TPM Sidious who is stronger than Darth Plagueis who was the strongest Sith to ever live at the time. ROTJ Vader is 80% of ROTJ Sidious power.

Plus, he never truly understood what Sidious wanted to achieve; Dooku thought that Sidious was going to create a Dark side version of the Republic, with the Sith in the Jedi's place. Immortality: The Rule of Two is passing on the spirit of the Master to the Apprentice. In canon, Sidious experimented and learned to take the power of the Life Force from clones, his apprentices. This didn't work on some of those clones. It's possible he wanted The Child to experiment on further, as well as the DNA for other clones. Some clones were altered with other species' DNA. Passing on his essence was not good enough. He wanted, more than anything, to keep his body and consciousness. He wanted to become truly immortal but he ruined that concept by destroying the Jedi. It might have been possible to sap the Life Force from several of them. The dyad was the truest satiation of power that might have worked for another century, had Rey not denied her heritage... It's possible, somewhere in the galaxy, Rey could have an uncle, cousin, or brother. Palpatine had so many contingencies that a new strain of Force Wielder is born from his experiments some consider to be _unnatural._

In Legends, it was thought that he would be able to transfer his essence as well as his consciousness to another being, which has never been told in the lore of any Star Wars, EU or canon. While it is possible for cellular memory to hold emotions, which are referred to as hereditary emotional resonance, the actual memory of who you know, what you did, or what you wanted to do in your past life (or an ancestor) is not even feasible. Once you die, the ego is lost. The *Rule of Two* is based on passing on power, not memory. Knowledge has always been learned through training... The stories were rejected based on George Lucas's vision. LucasFilm knows what they're doing.

Darth andeddu is ancient and did this surviving well past the galactic civil war, darth bane learned the technique but failed in his attempt to use it on his apprentice darth zannah at the end of their duel due to her strong will which meant that she was worthy of carrying on the rule of two, the sith emperor darth vitiate ruled for over a thousand yrs by using this technique and could exist as a disembodied spirit if need be. Sidious master darth plagueis knew the technique but refused to use it since he wanted to perfect immortality with his own body. Theres more examples of sith spirits being bound to places, objects or being disembodied such as naga shadow and exar kun on yavin iv, karness murr having his spirit in the murr talisman, freedom nadd etc. This power had no effect or impact on the rule of two and was never even a component of it so ur last paragraph don't even make sense, after every masters death at the hands of the apprentice they will take on their own apprenctice and so on, the only example of it ever being used in rule of two was bane as a last ditch attempt at surviving and testing his apprentice and whether she was worthy of carrying on the rule of two. The technique was stolen from legends where sidious used clone bodies to transfer essence into and made it canon. And given the state of star wars Lucasfilm have no clue what they're doing but hey that's my opinion.

I know about Exar Kun, Naga Sadow... all the essence transfers into inanimate objects, but when it comes to essence transfer into another human being, whether it's a clone or an apprentice, the will and ego of the "essence being" is done - gone - the will of the stronger being takes over. All the secrets they held are gone. Learn what you need to know before you kill your master, otherwise whatever you were waiting to find out is gone. Darth Vader would've killed Sidious long before he did if he knew that's how it worked. And, as promised, "if we work together, we will discover the secret" came to fruition when Vader saved Luke - saving the ones he loved, and bringing balance once again, ending the Sith reign.

The red robes were ceremonial sith robes with ancient sith symbols laced all throughout the robes. He wore it as a type of irony, the public had no idea about the significance of his red clothes, so when he announced to the galaxy that he would be emperor on that day, the importance was two layers of irony. The first layer of irony was how the public did not realize that the person who would lead them to "peace" was a sith who would create decades of horror. The second layer of irony was how sidious showed to the world clear evidence he was a Sith and had destroyed the jedi, but everyone thought that he was a hero, when coruscant is a planet which hated the sith all through history, having fought many wars against them. The victory sidious had was one of pure irony and his red robes were the ultimate symbol of that.

All of this is why I believe Sidious engineered Vader's defeat on Mustafar: an Anakin who realized anything near his potential was the ultimate threat to these plans, so the master manipulator made sure that his apprentice became a near-unstoppable minion but never seriously had a chance to take him out.

I liked this video...kinda makes me think that maybe the original vision for the prequal trilogy, and palptines’ return, had more to them that what we ended up seeing in disneys’ final cut. Palpatine had always been planning for his defeat...telling the story of how he survived his run in with vader/luke, and how the rise of the first order played into that...could have been so much cooler than what we saw. In the process of illuninating empire-era-palpatines character they could have gone into reys back story as well instead of leaving that as a big unveiling in the third movie. Might have left time for them to develop finn, and poes characters...which just felt, wasted.
