At the end, Brolin's answer to Kate's "why am I here" is both literal and figurative - it can equally used to explain Kate's role in the movie storytelling. Presenting everything through Kate's eyes instead of Alenjandro's "creates chaos" and anxiety, and Kate's whole reason for being is so that we can "watch and learn."

I think i read somewhere that Kate's presence as a certain us law enforcement makes some parts of the operation legal, or easier for higher ups to turn a blind eye. Absolutely love the soundtrack to this. Blends well with the atmosphere it surrounds. Award winning film making in my opinion.

I believe much of the reason why so many people love this scene is because it gives us a glimpse into the discipline, tactics, professionalism, and cool detachment of special forces in a very realistic way. They come across as both aggressive and restrained, but when it’s time to act they show zero hesitation. These guys are at the absolute top of the list of alpha males, and both men and women are drawn to them.

@@dbv904If she got off, the cartel police would have gotten their target. And she's practically the entire reason why this operation was even legal in the first place. And the team made sure she's in a position that she has no choice but to do things that go their way as planned. They don't want her to be "competent", they want her to be controlled.

I always come back to this clip for what I imagine to be an example of how those CIA contractor gun fights went that the world will never hear about. Incredibly professional, in control the whole time, ruthless, and making it out without so much as a mark. The world just forgets it ever happened. Like a cleaver, powerful but with a clean cut.
