After thirty-four hours of lying in state, the doors of the Capitol were closed to the public and Nancy Reagan was escorted in, where she had a moment alone with the casket. A military honor guard entered and carried it down the west steps of the Capitol to a 21-gun salute where Mrs. Reagan, holding her hand over her heart, met it.After it was placed in a hearse, the motorcade departed on the five mile-trip to the Washington National Cathedral, where the state funeral service was to be held; crowds lined the route of the cortege as the hearse made its way.

'Days after being shot, weak from wounds, he spilled water from a sink and when entering the hospital room medics saw him on his hands and knees wiping water from the floor because he worried his nurse would get in trouble' Kindness and being humble are the greatest attributes a human being can have. Ronald Reagan had both. RIP President.

About 2 months prior I had gotten to meet one of Reagan's adopted grandsons in Florida during a meeting to propose care and budgeting towards battling the dreaded Alzheimer's Disease. My memory is very foggy, however I asked him how the former President was doing knowing about his illness and his response was "He's doing as well as he can be". It was a hard hit for me, he always represented a light, yet firm side of politics. I know that policy and experience are vital, but being relate-able is what allows a citizen to truly rally behind someone knowing they will make many wise and foolish choices. It's unfortunate that this quality holds so much importance, but with the failures of former Presidents the trust was shattered and the regulations and separation from the common public make politicians almost alien to some. Their world is so very much different from ours and it's a world that changes people drastically.

beautiful service, many moving speeches, including George H.W. Bush's speech. I noticed Prince Charles in attendance. He did not give a speech, but I was impressed by just the look on his face, showing sadness and sympathy. It is a sign of greatness when you have such an important and notable position in the world, and you have the humility to attend an event like this without being the center of attention, and not needing to give a speech.

However i have absolutely nothing good to say about lyndin johnson. He brought us into a full scale war of attrition in vietnam and left the soldiers over there to die.

Politics aside this was a beautiful funeral. And the Reagan’s were a great couple; they loved each other so much. I hope that I can be such a wife to my husband. God bless you all.

+Rose Hurt People die everyday you moron. Why are you idiots carrying on. Is it just because she was famous? Who cares....many young people die who never had a chance to even live their lives. This big headed bitch Nancy Regan lived a life of privilege. She probably never had to struggle for anything.

Rose Hurt So what she is dead. The woman lived a long and privileged life. She was 94 years old......people tend to die when they get that old. What is your point?

The US military is a special organization. The ability to destroy any army with unimaginable force. And also the ability to extend compassion with an arm from a General to help a grieving wife.

Ronald Reagan was a great man and leader. I can't believe it has already been 20 years since his state funeral. I was impressed that he was still alive after battling with Alzheimer's disease while I was born, but he died about half a year later when I was born. None of the Americans will ever forget about the 40th president. Rest in peace, Mr. and Mrs. Reagan! 🇺🇸🫡

i remember when President Reagan came to Atlanta and was at the Loews Anatol Hotel in 1984. We were still simply free and in an uncomfortable situation, but, moving in our dreams and faith, not even unemployed. The challenger crash came soon thereafter, separation from life dreams, but, we live today and shall overcome to make America great again and recover all freedoms
