Few reporters or news stations are willing to do this type of INVESTIGATIVE reporting anymore. Kudos to the reporting team, the channel, and the editorial staff of that channel that supported their dedicated reporting team that allowed this story to get out. Some of these journalists...TRUE JOURNALISTS...put their careers or even health, safety and sometimes lives on the line covering this sort of privileged or high level criminal activity.

We had a local cop here that billed the city for over $7500.00 in overtime pay while he was starting a side business. He was neither fired, nor did he have to make any restitution. The sherriff at the time also used an unmarked police vehicle to go up north on vacation. He wrecked the car and by doing so was caught. He denied all charges and fought it in court. He too kept his job and played no restitution. The biggest problem with this is the example it gives to the younger, upcoming cops. The truth is that they should be held more accountable than an ordinary citizen because of their positions. The same with all the crooked politicians.
@jdbreaux80805 жыл бұрын
I think anyone that see this would *wholeheartedly agree with me* that all of these individuals should be prosecuted to the absolute fullest extent of the law, lose their pension and be put in prison. Those people that got citations from them while they were shown in 2 places at once should receive punitive damages and at least twice the citation amount from those officers pensions. These are not mistakes. This was premeditated fraud. The payroll amounts were more than any grand theft. They should be in prison RIGHT DAMN NOW! *Several officers made more than the United States Vice President!*

Im from Massachusetts but we have similar problems here as well. I feel like the state police in all states in this country are where the majority of major corruption takes place. My uncle was a trooper and when fellow troopers complained to him about a certain group of state cops abusing the OT / going to court duty of their job. when we went forward, he and the other 4 officers who complained were all demoted. in fact my uncle, who at the time had 3 small children all under 10 years old, was transferred so that he'd have a commute of over an hour just to get to work.... when before he had a commute of about 5 minutes. eventually the 5 sued, won a small settlement, got their old positions back but no one was fired. and im sure all those who "ratted" were never allowed to be promoted past a certain point. my uncle retired early (around 53) with his full pension but said the politics / ass kissing was worse now than it was when he started which was say 1990

There should be journalists funded by taxpayers to do exactly this! Film everything,match hours on duty to time sheet claims,etc..essentially police the police in effort to expose wrongdoing. I'd gladly help pay that salary,which in turn would likely lighten up the tax dollars that are just handed over to police like this.
@becausetheconstitution30085 жыл бұрын
There are people out there already that are doing this stuff for free. Easily found on youtube.. they're called First Amendment Auditors, Second Amendment Auditors, Cop Watch Activists, Copblock Activists, Photo & Video Journalists, etc. Journalism is NOT a "profession" - anyone is free to do it. It's our 1st Amendment guaranteed right & it's something that ALL citizens of the free world may "engage in". So perhaps instead of you gladly helping pay salaries of unknowns.. pick up a camera & ENGAGE in journalism. Remember.. it'll then be you that determines the when, where, how or even why you pick any particular story/target to share as matters of public interest. But it's YOUR story from your point of view & could very well be picked up by other news outlets & go viral. ;)

Are they implying that this department had enough money to pay these huge overtime amounts to the cops but not enough to bring the equipment into this century????? 🤓🤓🤓

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The attorney for Former Louisiana State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson says Edmonson has been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing. However, federal prosecutors Thursday refused to comment on the attorney’s claim. The former head of state police was accused of assigning troopers to shuttle family members on personal trips, getting free meals that he should have paid for, and letting friends and family members stay in hotel rooms meant for troopers during Mardi Gras. Edmonson retired after the allegations were raised in a state audit released in 2017. His attorney, Grey Sexton, said Thursday the Louisiana Board of Ethics has investigated matters raised in the scathing state audit and closed the file without recommending any prosecution.“All of the investigatory matters have been concluded,” Sexton said.

Every cop and State police department has men in blue who break policies and the law. Falsifying documents, turning in time sheets with added times, theft of property ect ect. I've seen cops in my home town with expired licence plates on there own personal vehicles. My favorite "cop exemption" is the night shift cops, 90% of them have lunches "at home" while on the clock that last 2-4 hours. Then take naps behind the mall and school buildings in there cars, instead of patrolling. Morale of the story ? Cops are people. People that will do bad things if there not supervised and made examples of when caught breaking policies and laws. That's just the nature of being human.

In my city, if you're going through a divorce and have minor children, the city judge will appoint an attorney to represent your children, one for each child, all at the expenses of tax payers and that's just one of thousands of ways they steal our money.
