State parks are great, we have some wonderful ones here in MN that you'd really enjoy - it's nice and cool on the north shore of Lake Superior in summer... Sadly I've seen many state parks around the country that have been trashed, just like I've seen our beautiful national lands turning into. I say thank God for the National Park Service and what they do for us to protect our lands. We used to go on jeep trails throughout the western mountain states but have stopped now because they've become overrun by ATVs breaking the rules, laws, and generally failing to respect our lands. Camp sites full of trash now, etc... They are ruining it for everyone. What good person would disrespect our lands like this? The BLM/Forest Service/state parks need more help in dealing with these kinds of people. I'm very happy for the National Park Service. Could their rules be tweaked and improved a bit? Sure, but good on them.

Ok Kristi is not just the upgraded American Wife she is the Diamond version of the upgraded American Wife. Thus, the reason that Sean will need the cold showers. Sorry Kristi, you guys just set that one up way too well. I think those hooks by the picnic table are for Coleman lanterns which had a much more romantic glow than the harsh bright white light of the modern LED "lanterns". Keep the good stuff coming guys.

Good video. Something to consider: My brother retired after 30 years as a Sheriff's deputy in Wyoming. He then worked for 5 years as a Wyoming State Park Law Enforcement Ranger. He said he came across more scum and low-lifes in those 5 years than he did the whole 30 years of being a deputy. Therefore, don't let your guard down when enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors in those state parks!

When we’re traveling state parks are generally our first choice for several reasons that you mentioned. They generally have one or more hook ups, lower nightly rates and can be easier to book than national parks. State parks are often closer to towns and amenities than national parks and easier to access when traveling. Welcome back, and safe travels!

Just last month we stayed at Meaher State Park in Spanish Fort, just south of Mobile. It is a great park. Good, level sites that are not so close together. Full hook-ups with showers and a great laundry at reasonable prices. The staff was great, the gate to the park closed at 6pm and you needed the gate code to come in. I was very impressed with such good surroundings in a state park. We would stay here again.

Hi Sean and Kisty, funny niether one of my ex-wives would be helping with the hot water heater. Beautiful and helpful, Sean you are a lucky man. With not being able to film in national parks anymore I am now doing more state parks. The main problem with state parks is the weekenders. They have no camping etiquette, don't know or don't care. State parks are gems, and probably where we camp the most. We live in Arizona and enjoy Dead Horse Ranch and Kartchner Caverns mostly, but others are wonderful. New Mexico has so many wonderful state parks, as does Texas. Seems like National Parks have the excitement of being in a truly nationally-recognized special area but as such, there are limitations as to what you can do and getting in to reserve a campsite can be such a challenge. State parks (and county parks) are so much more relaxed and a great home base for traveling around that particular region. Both are different experiences, though, but I agree with your assessment. Oak Mountain looks wonderful!!!
@LongLongHoneymoon3 ай бұрын
Yes, a few years ago I was speaking with some friends while we were camping on some bureau of land management land out west. Our friends commented that they did not really feel comfortable camping in national parks due to the restrictions with regards to pets and going off-road and so forth. Of course the national parks have the benefit of so many beautiful natural areas and I certainly understand they need to preserve those areas. But the state parks have a lot of freedom going for them, and with freedom often comes fun. I think this particular state park is operated in a way that profoundly benefits the community because so many enjoyable activities are made available

Love the upgrades. We camped at Oak Mt when we dropped our son off at Samford and it was a pretty underwhelming campground at that time but the park looked amazing. Do they still have the water covered road on the northern end of the park? My son did a lot of mountain biking during his years in BHAM. We have recently moved from GA to UT and we took our little piece of BHAM with us, our Storyteller Overland. Your videos make me miss our Airstream years but the van is in its element in UT. Great video as always.
@LongLongHoneymoon2 ай бұрын
Thank you, Gayle… did you know storyteller overland is based in BHM? The road in the park that have water over it has been built up so now it no longer floods over. I had a section in the video about mountain biking but due to a weird audio glitch, my voiceover got lost! So at the 17 minute mark there is a musical piece that was supposed to be some discussion of the mountain biking. I know it is great there. Anyway, thanks for your comment. Maybe we will see you in Utah later this year.

@LongLongHoneymoon2 ай бұрын
We paid the rate they charged ( I think it was around $220 for 5 nights). In 17 years of RV travel I can’t think of too many times we’ve ever stayed in a campground without a charge. The only places I know you can stay where you don’t “have to pay for it” would be Boondocking on BLM land. Why would you expect to stay in a state park for free? I think every single state park in the nation charges a nightly rate for the campground. It’s been that way everywhere for my entire life.

Our pricing was in the mid-$40 range … but towards the low 40s during the weekdays and the high 40s on the weekends.

You guys rock. Easily my favorite RV channel, along with RVing makes Cents. I love your ironic humor. I live next door in GA, and never considered camping in Alabama. I love COE and state parks, and I will for sure visit here in the future! GA needs to step up our game, there aren't any beaches on our lakes that allow pups. This park is a freaking resort!

Thanks! More vids on the way! We will try to showcase some more Alabama camping destinations too.
