I have owned 2 Chevy Bolts. They were phenomenal cars. I got hit hard in the first one at 106,000 miles and it saved my life. The second one had 163,000 miles when I traded it in for a Lyriq. Both cars never saw a dealer after the initial purchase. They just need tires. My hope is the Lyriq follows this amazing trend but it is infinitely more complicated. Still, GM builds amazing EV's and they are highly underrated. This video is the best charging video I have seen. After 7 years of EV driving, I couldn't have said it any better!

Great video, Tom. A point that I like to drive home with people is or relates to cost. You pay kilo watt hours on your meter and a watt is a watt, no matter what is pushing it as voltage. Your watts can be delivered to your battery from 110 V Are the same cost as the watt that is delivered by 240 V. It’s just the rate of which those watts are delivered in simplified terms. If your Lyriq would need 20 kWh to receive a full charge on a level two charger, it will be the same amount of cost delivering those same 20 kWh on the level one charger. The only difference is the time factor.

Something else to consider before deciding between 2 free years of using EVgo, or the $1500 credit towards your Level 2 Charger installation is to make sure Q-Merit services your area. When I inquired about Q-Merit performing my EV installation, I was told they did not service my area.

Another thing to consider… make sure there are EVgo chargers near you lol. I did not and fortunately there are 2 near my office (30miles away). I live in a major city too. Plenty of chargepoint chargers everywhere, very few EVgo chargers.

I would’ve gladly taken cash instead of the free charging from EA for my 2023, IONIQ 5. But I’m more happy with my purchase clocking in a 0% to 70% and 17 minutes and topping out at 82% from 0% after only 22 minutes. I can fully charge my vehicle in 47 minutes from 0% to 100% but I’ll never do that publicly. It’s not very kind to those who are waiting for your last 18% and if you can’t find a charger closer than the range you can get with 82% of your battery then you need to get another app to start searching in a different way or start carrying destination adapters. 🤷🏻 Nicely done Tom💯 36:17

Fantastic video, as usual. Mr. Moloughney produces the most scientific content of all the EV KZbinrs and it always worth your time. This video is a good example (especially his comments about having an EV-expert electrician install your home EVSE). Along those same lines, I would take argument with one of his comments about setting level 1 charging to 12 amps instead of the default 8 amps. In my opinion, the only time a 12 amp setting should be used is if the circuit it is on has a 20 amp breaker and there is nothing else on the same line (a rare circumstance, especially in a garage or outdoor plug). It is important to not intentionally load circuits to their max, that is why an EV-expert electrician would install a 48 amp level 2 charger only if the supply circuit breaker and wiring were 60 amp rated AND there was nothing else on the circuit. As Mr. Moloughney said later in the video, EVSEs are unlike anything else in your home in that they pull the full power for the duration of the charge. So, imagine the car was set to pull 12 amps on a 15 amp circuit...Not only would that exceed the safety margin that is supposed to be used for household circuits, but tripping the breaker would be common if anything else were plugged in to that circuit. It is likely that many garages that were not designed for EVs have only one breaker supplying the whole area. Therefore, a car pulling 12 amps on a 15 amp circuit will blow the breaker when someone activates the power garage door opener or the spare refrigerator turns the compressor on or maybe even if the lights are turned on. It is just bad practice to set your level 2 charger up for anything other than 8 amps, especially when traveling and the user has no idea what the electric circuits can handle in the place they are staying. Quite frankly I am surprised that Cadillac even has this option available. Just my 2-cents. All the best.

Not only is it not standard on the 2024 Lyriqs, you'll also require 100 A service and the Ultium EVSE or equivalent. So add in $1299 for the EVSE and what ever it will cost to install 100A service for it. I'm not aware of any L2 commercial charging stations that offer more than 7kW.

Another point. Some utilities have a demand (how many KW peak) rate (mostly commercial users) charged. So just using the Fastest setting without a good reason, should be avoided. The Luxury Trim standard charging module is the 11.5KW module. The 19.2 KW charging module is not available on the Luxury 1 model (1SC). It is available as an option on the Luxury 2 (1SD) and Luxury 3 (1SE) models. My 2023 order was changed to a 2024 Luxury 2 order which was placed in June 2023. A week later GM said there were constraints on Super Cruise so the order was changed to a Luxury 1 model. The car was built in July 2024 and was held in the factory parking lot until late November when it was delivered to the dealer on 11/29/2024. I took delivery on 11/30/2024. Most cars built during that time were low-optioned cars and all came with the 11.5KW charging module. From what I can see on local dealer lots at this time they are still not receiving any of the higher trim levels.

I've been using a regular extension cord to charge since day 1. It doesn't add very much time unless the cord is super duper long like 100 ft or something because then the voltage goes down slightly. We currently charge on the driveway and leave the EVSE just inside the garage door and the cord goes right under the rubber part without a problem for our situation, this is better because the EVSE is inside and the part that could be damaged is cheaper 😂 The main thing you have to look at is you can only use a maximum of 80% of the max load for the cord.

I use an appliance cord to extend my EVSE further from an outlet when traveling. No problems and it’s cheaper than extending the J1772 end.

Does anyone know if GM/Cadillac makes a 6-50 adapter that fits inside the EVSE to use rather than the 14-50 that it comes with for Level 2 charging?

First thing you do is transfer $50,000 into your checking account for the deposit on a DC fast charger.
