I think social media killed celebrity culture. Reasons are 1) it exposes a lot of them because they do a lot of dumb stuff online where as before social media everything was filtered by the media and 2) it created an entire culture of fame hungry influencers that have cheapened the meaning of what it means to be famous because most of them also have no talent just like the Kardashians.

I think the K's just woke a few people up because the sham was so blatant. Many neurodivergent people don't understand the worship of anyone - celebrity, royalty, religious figures etc - it makes absolutely no sense, it's all pretend titles, costume and construct. So we do a lot of observing of human behaviour. I honestly think the celebrity backlash is due to the economic and sociopolitical environment, our loss of hope and fear of the future. If society was to recover it's equilibrium, the worship would be back as well. But that's just a personal opinion.

What's really sad is that the Met Gala is actually for funding historical fashion preservation because the fashion arm of the Met has to get funds each year to keep going. It's relevant work that has historical and cultural importance, as well as celebrating an art form that we all engage with every day, ie. fashion. They've relied on the celebrity angle so people donate, but the problem is that it's become so about that that most people have no idea what it actually funds and many celebrities use it for less than great purposes. It's one of the reasons that Kim wearing the Monroe dress was extremely insulting both artistically and historically.

True, but my understanding is that it's generally not the celebrities themselves who pay the ticket price. They are invited by different fashion brands to display their designs. I think it's important to note that the Met Gala is a charity event. It didn't always involve celebrities, that is a fairly recent development. It's a highly publicized event and the optics around the timing were horrible, but it's not the most egregious example, in my opinion. It's just possibly one of the most mediatized. And while we direct most of our ire toward influencers/celebrities, we pay much less attention to the billionaires who do far greater damage (very few artists have that kind of wealth). The ones that can afford to keep a low profile (while maintaining the same standard of living).

Progress is not linear, and it often feels like one step forward, two steps back. While we may not see the changes that we want in our lifetime, the fight is worth staying in, as generations have done before us and will continue to do after us. We have to take it day by day, hug our loved ones and our animals, find gratitude in the little things like reality tv or a great meal, and build community. Hollywood's biggest problem is narcissistic nepotism. Once upon a time, Hollywood was filled with regular people doing extraordinary things. New things. Creative things. It took a lot of people to create such illusions, and they were well done. Sets were built. The cameraman and the sound people and everyone else were just as important as the "star", because a movie couldn't be made without them. And the stars were just regular people like Archibald Leach and Norma Jean Baker and Marion Robert Morrison, who were packaged as Cary Grant and Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne. Nobody forgot their roots. Now..... I don't think there's a single person left in Hollywood who isn't a descendant of a former actor/producer/etc. And they have no real talent. Some do, but they let it go to their heads. Angelica Huston is a great actress? Really? She seems to only have two expressions, and they both look almost the same. She wouldn't be anyone if her dad hadn't been John Huston. All the Carradines owe a huge debt of gratitude to their father. They're ok, but they can't hold a candle to their dad. John Carradine was a hard worker who took most any role for the work. And he threw himself into his performances, no matter what the role was. The Arquette clan would be a bunch of nobodys without their grandfather. Charlie Weaver (Cliff Arquette) was a great man. He was especially loved in Gettysburg for being crucial in helping to save the history of that town. Drew Barrymore? Nothing without her grandfather. Do you really believe Charlie Sheen would be a star if it wasn't for his dad? Emilio tried using the family name instead of the family stage name, but it was still easy to see dad's influence. As beautiful and talented as Olivia DeHaviland was, she still got a leg up because of her mother and sister. Olivia is actually a Fontaine. The list is endless. Some of them got work for having some talent, but most of them are simply riding on their family names. And too many of them are simply spoiled brats. There was a time when actors kept their kids out of the spotlight, and pushed them to get real jobs. Now....quite the opposite. Today's "stars" grew up thinking that they're OWED adoration and a ton of money. They EXPECT people to "worship" them. Nothing is natural about them anymore. Hollywood lost touch with regular people because there are no regular people left in Hollywood. It's just a bunch of brats playing pretend in front of a green screen. Sets aren't even real anymore, just computer generated pictures. They're putting out the lowest effort and expecting high returns. There are some modern movies I do like.....but lately, I've been sticking to watching pre-Star Wars movies. And there's a difference. A big one. And it's easy to see. I honestly can't think of a "modern" movie that's more thrilling than Captain Blood from the 40s, or a set more beautiful than the actual forest they created for A Midsummer Night's Dream in the 1930s. It used to be great stories done well, and that's what mattered. Now ... they'll spend more time and money making sure tons of fake blood pour out of a gunshot wound over making sure they have a decent script. It's more about names and special effects now. Stories and talent got pushed to the side. Oh, and gotta have those gratuitous body/sex scenes in every movie now days! It's rarely necessary to a story.....but they make sure it gets put in there! Sorry this got long. If you made it this far.....then may your day be filled with smiles. 😊 PS - Funny how they chose John's Imagine over another big song of his..... Instant Karma.

I don't see anything worth pining over when it comes to ANY famous person, because I create videos and art and music and I don't think their stuff is any better than mine, they have more fame. But to me, I prefer authenticity and when people create stuff in their own style because they WANT to, and it's legit and not some cash-in.

The imagine acapella omg yes that ish irritated me to the core. And I agree with the Mila kunis & the other guy I forgot his name. I am still disgusted that they wrote those letters and had the audacity to say they support victims. You clearly DO NOT!

The fact that they wrote character letters on behalf of a rapist and then tried to act all high and mighty like they support victims is actually bat-shit crazy.

John legends imagine is basically: there’s no good and no evil there just “is”. Moral relativism. It’s likely a common belief among famous rich people which leads to Harvey, and Diddy. If you believe in moral relativism, you’re going to act like it. He was just as divorced from reality as the celebrities are today.

My hope is that this attitude extends soon the political realm, and we started holding those people accountable.

The only celebrities I am a fan of are my parents. On the other hand, people who have money are not obligated to donate anything. "So and so has milions of dollars, why hasn't she donated?" How do we know she or he didn't or hasnt donated? There's a chance the ones who donate from the heart will not make it public.
