Thank you everyone for all your comments, support and feedback! It means a lot to us as we continue our jorney with State Zero. When it comes to the lights on their suits - as these soldiers are not facing human enemies they do not need traditional camouflage. Keeping small LED lights on the suits is important for other soldiers to quickly be able to spot their human colleagues if they get attacked. This short film was done on a shoestring budget by a very passionate team and was meant to hopefully spark interest among people online and within the industry and your support so far has been incredible. We believe that there's always more room for immersive post-apocalyptic stories and we're working hard to bring you more State Zero. So stay tuned and once again - thank you for watching!

The first scene was of an injured or deceased citizen, John Ericsson(Subject #25) being revived and subjected to the “Transformation Protocol” by scientists sanctioned by the State, which was apparently seeking to create either a class of enhanced proles, facile laborers without the intellectual ability to object to heavy or repetitive labor, or a sub-human class, possibly useful as soldiers, who would blindly follow the orders of the State. John Ericsson is dressed in street clothes, and is shown a picture of himself with a woman he is close to. He appears to have been injured and his clothes are disheveled. Because of the posting of photograph of the couple in front of him, it is implied that he was responsible for some harm that has befallen her, perhaps her death, but we aren’t told explicitly. However, the “punishment” is non-judicial, quick and extreme. Whether the other subjects were deceased, or grabbed off the streets or arrested for some social transgression, the end result for them is the Transformation Protocol. We are supposed to assume that some of the surviving subjects of these experiments escaped, joined together and revolted against the State. The State says they are non-human invaders to be eradicated like rats. The soldiers believe this. The returning of the I.D. Bracelet to the surviving soldier was the sending of the message that the “enemy” are basically human, that the State had lied about the origin and nature of the problem, and that the transformation experiments had worked better than the State anticipated. The subjects had gained increased physical strength and sense enhancements, while retaining their basic humanity and their abilities to think, plan and organize. Very well done. Hope we will see more of these. To the producers of State Zero - Watch out for the continuity errors pointed out by others; those errors will diminish the perceived or “internal” credibility of the movies. After all, successful fiction relies on the willing suspension of disbelief (according to Samuel Taylor Coleridge, ca. 1817).

@bigblupro5 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, I think they put subject #25 into the infected population with control over his mind, yet still infected. He is changing the others. They showed him the picture while injecting him to make his human side trigger his mind to stay intact while the injection took over his body. When confronted he gave the bracelet back to the soldier so that when he reports this situation they will know their vaccine is working.

Anonymous98 the retuning of the ID bracelet was also a clear message that the subjects who are part of the Transformation Protocol are sentient beings. @Boss Dog RE: "I see they had their Atropine shot before disembarking." If that was Atropine that the soldiers were injecting, that would imply that there's some kind of nerve agent involved. If that's the case, was it the orange cloud that was spread before the troopers landed or was it already in the environment?

There was couple kind of negative criticism I will give. The first one is the fact that they used L-3 GPNVG-18 ANVIS night vision goggles and then a flash lights. The whole purpose to use night vision goggles is that you can see in almost pitch black darkness without giving out your position. Normally if you use night vision you also use infrared lasers and lights that r invisible for human eye. I understand the fact that these guys will look more "tacticool" with the nvg goggles on and if they would use infrared torches they would need to film those scenes with nvg lens which are super expensive and very hard to find. But as always if you say something negative you should also recommend or suggest something how to make it better. So my suggestion is to change those night vision goggles to full face mask that will look like he would have night vision or thermal imagine capability or probably some science fiction features. Because for people that know how these things work its looking very stupid when you are using nvg with white light (the white light will blind you completely if you use nvg). The second thing is gun sounds, they were not as good as I expected. The sound was like from the LMG that give support fire more than the assault rifle or submachine gun. Not really a big deal but something that would be easy to change in future. Other than that the short movie was that good I would totally pay to see the full movie in the cinema :) The movie have kind of scare parts but it was not like the horror movie. It would have been if the two guys would had gone downstairs to look their dead buddy in kneeling down position, thank god they left him there since I am not big fan of horror movies :D
@kronkwithagun66958 жыл бұрын
I think the flashlight was so that the audience could see. I *would* suggest that they use night vision for the actual film, but IMO it would just look stupid. I hate the green.
@K3S01L28 жыл бұрын
Ya I kind of tried to tell that they used night vision with flaslights because the audience would otherwise see just black and muzzle flashes. They could also use flashlights without any nvg's on or then use some futuristic looking mask and make some scenes filmed from first person view with thermal imagine so the viewer will get the idea they use flir goggles and then make the bigger part of the scene in third person and make the lighting condition different so viewer could see clearly whats happening without using flashlights. Also these days its tactical to use flashlights only in short burst like showing it in one corner for a second then turning it off then again lightning some other area and turning it off again. But remember in real life flashlights are used only when you don't use thermal imagine or night vision goggles. So if those guys use any of those they should not use visible light.

i picked up on the night vision thing too, however, why was only one of them equipped with night vision? should have left the night vision out, it doesn’t add anything, this short already was visually great for being a “simple short” no cheesy lines, no bad acting, good effects and cgi.. you can’t get all of that from billion dollar movies. i expect to see these guys doing much more... or at least i would hope so, there’s a lot of talent here.. acting, directing, modeling, editing, cgi.

BRILLIANT visuals, from lighting to set design to effects and CG. Amazing work, there. Your writers, however, should be taken outside and seriously roughed up. They used every tired military-movie cliché in the book, and it _ruined_ this short for me overall. I hope all of the artists move on to excellent creative new products. I hope the writers consider alternate careers.

Jeremy Rice Agree in everything except it didn't ruin it for me. Its a budget short, I am willing to look past such things. But yeah next time around don't: -talk about mission briefing at the last sec. Audience doesn't need that much info and its utterly unrealistic. Reads like a video game mission briefing or very clumsy screenwriting. -don't point guns at each others -don't use flashlights and night vision -give the dudes a little edge, cut some eyebrows fame acne scars - something - these pretty boys didn't look like they had seen much. -avoid the cliches like rookie hazing when on a mission or sergeant smoking a cigar (I know he didn't here) This unsolicited bitching aside - a great piece and congrats to everyone involved!
@SIPEROTH9 жыл бұрын
Jeremy Rice Have you ever considered that sometimes the writers just don't want to present some super twist and just want to make a nice simple action sequence? If every writer tried to create the next big twist then shit will get tiring fast. Sometimes you just want to watch a nice simple movie about soldiers fighting monsters and relax. Sometimes you just do not want your brain fucked up.

I really appreciate the thought that went into the basic situation and reasoned outcomes. For example: Well equipped, capable soldiers that take counter measures as a matter of course. The Anti Viral shots, the dropping of decoy canisters, the seismic sensor placement... all on a ROUTINE mission. The conflict and resolution are not due to stupid soldiers making a crap ton of mistakes, but due to being simply outmaneuvered by something unexpected. Keep up the solid writing!

@@claudiustefan4565 If you are referring to this video "coming out before the release of The Division", you are correct. However the first "The Division" trailer depicting the Smart Watch or the Intelligent Security Assistance Computer (ISAC) Brick debuted at E3 2013, meaning that the concept of a device that emits an orange glowing ring attached to a government agent during an apocalyptic event was still largely created/propagated by The Division almost 2 years before this video debuted. I wanna be clear, I am not saying this video has anything to do with The Division and I think both properties are epic cool without being related. I liked watching this video and I enjoy this sub-genre of apocalyptic content no matter who makes it. It is not a dig at any property to have homages if that's what this is and it is not that weird an idea that something can be thought of independently by 2 different entities for similar properties, if that's what this is. Things like this device showing up in both properties can be interesting/cool, regardless of the actual relationship between the 2, but I found it interesting that the 2 are close enough for it to be a decent chance at being an homage. Remember next time you say something that project amalgam release dates are not the same as concept release dates.
