(Muhahahahaha!) You are *very* welcome! I keep hearing how people are having trouble getting into this game, and I do remember myself too only admiring the potential promised by the first moments on the Moon with all the tools and things that may or may not have purpose ... But in my case, it was clearly laziness, I remember that. Once I had played through (most of) the tutorials twice (with some months in between), I was primed to at least give it a thorough go a few times ... and that was the end of it, suddenly 5 months of daily playing had passed. This game is just ridiculous!

These tutorials are really helpful as a new player. Parts 1 and 2 have gotten me a decent foothold on the moon, though I'm still learning on low difficulties for the moment. There's a cozy feeling to this game but I sure wish it had more onboard learning and goals instead of having to look up tutorials outside the game for everything. Still, these have gotten me to basic energy sustainability, and hopefully more soon. Dreaming about moving off the moon but that's a long, long way off. That said I think it speaks to the obsessive nature of the game that half the comments you get are people complaining about incredibly tiny inefficiencies.

Here's a new tutorial, about half an hour, that gets you from zero to station battery (steel), cooling system, potato plant, drinking solution: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYa7mIyme6lonKs Yep, I remember (but sadly can't feel these days) the coziness of this game: Your own reality that you have to take care of but that also supplies ample ways of doing so, engineering solutions, machines, automatism. I miss in most games the possibility to go home into your own cave - and in a meaningful way (Not just decorations or an upgrade you buy for 10,000 gold.), something we've had for tens of thousands of years as part of our evolution, but in Stationeers, you're almost doing nothing but that! Dean said recently they had already spent over 500,000 USD for onboarding means, so he's not too keen on working on that until the game's form/implementation has settled sufficiently. Goals will certainly also come eventually, e.g. an extension of the loosely already existing "Take care of that guy." mechanism we have with traders, namely hotel-like aspects you have to build. They also love the idea of doing a terraforming expansion at some point, but there are no definitive plans for that yet. (An existing mod has shown that not only is it possible with Stationeers, but also many people really want it!)

@@OwnerOfTheCosmos Thanks for all the info, it's fascinating to see how much has gone into this game from both devs and players. I hope you can enjoy the coziness of this game again in time. Thank you for helping bring it to others.

That arc furnace can run off that tiny battery and a 20 watt solar panel?! Also, moon has 2 week day and 2 week night. The game seems clearly right up my alley. So I'm definitely going to start playing it, but I'm surprised they don't address these two things
@OwnerOfTheCosmos
@OwnerOfTheCosmos Ай бұрын
Hm ... I guess the low energy needed by the Arc Furnace is primarily a game balancing choice. I.e. when you start your world, or whenever your entire station has blown up, you're dead if you don't have an Autolathe and an Arc Furnace (and some other things) - I'm saying that the Arc Furnace is one of the first things you need, and what you *will not* have at the beginning is ample energy. But I think maybe there should be the option to have the Arc Furnace consume at least somewhat more energy depending on difficulty choice. I just made that suggestion on the Discord. ---- 2 week day/night: The DN cycle always takes 20 minutes on all Stationeers worlds. That's way too fast for my taste, so I adjust it down via console [F3], enter "orbit" to see the world's current (aka standard) parameters, then enter "orbit timescale XXX" (e.g. 0.03 instead of 0.3 for 200 minutes DN cycle on the Moon). This value does not save, but it's easy to just do it after every load - I mean, a Stationeers session usually lasts a couple of hours. Also to be considered: Plants always stay on their 20 minute logic, so the right amount of light/darkness needs to be upheld despite the world being on a different rhythm then.

Another great tutorial. How do you refill the portable gas tank. I made the mistake using it to pressurise the base but can't work out how to refill. You mentioned putting oxide in but it doesn't seem to work. It just melts when inside without doing anything and does nothing when outside.

Why would you take the cable from the solar panel instead of the cable from the coal generator (that you haven't even used once) when you needed just a few more to wire the auto-lathe? Just didn't make sense to me at all. @27:28

I needed any and all cables, because there's more to do after the Autolathe - didn't know it can also print cables. ... And I do use the coal generator just then a few times.

And there is the "motion sensor....I'm not sure what that does.." ROFL really?

Well, I can't imagine what I was thinking there 4 months ago. But in case you believe that the motion sensor detects motion: That's not what it does.

Great video. Do you have one about eating? I haven't grown anything in game as it keeps dying, so I just play until my cereal bars run out then die and get more. Having trouble pressurizing the base and maintaining all the stats to grow things.

Episode 3 as a bit of info on plants and harvesting (here kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6mqfWZ5fNqMe9U and here kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6mqfWZ5fNqMe9U). I don't have full-fledged video or part of video that focuses on setting up a greenhouse (yet?). Even in my Vulcan base, I just expanded my living quarters and plopped hydroponics down, so it's not dedicated: I normally just set the base up for myself-with-open-helmet and make sure the CO2 doesn't drop too much, it gets the job done. Make a room. Evacuate. Drop down some oxite. Melt it e.g. by opening your waste tank, which is warm so there will be warm atmosphere usually causing endless melting of the oxite. Make sure you don't pressure much more than 90kPa, because ideal growth pressure is up to 100 by default (though plants mutate, so your mileage varies). Your waste has CO2 which the plants need. To get more CO2, you can use (filtered and cooled) waste gas from your normal or Advanced Furnace. If your base has its own cooling, you can just let some super hot waste gas in (after the volatiles have fully reacted away with the oxygen) and wait a few minutes until it's cool again while the scrubber eats the Pollution - which ideally should be filtered away instead, but one of my upcoming 3 vids (not live yet because KZbin is still crunching them) just lets pure waste gas in to get CO2 from 1% to over 3% in a relatively large room without too much of a bother. Plant 1 potato seed. Wait until it's ripe (which is fast; and if your conditions are right, it should be *thriving* most of the time). Replant all of it (seed, 2 potatoes) to have a) that one plant again, b) an extra plant, c) another extra plant. So, your Portable Hydroponics are now almost full, and one such thing is currently enough to get you going. (Will probably change with further survival development by RocketWerkz.) Just don't forget to plop the Water Canister from your lander into the thing. Plant lighting: On the Moon, you just need glas around. On Mars, you need to use the Grow Light that comes with your lander nowadays. Don't let it run too much, the plants also need darkness. Just synchronizing it with the sun via MIPS (which is simple) will do the trick on Mars. Make sure your base doesn't get too hot, because it usually heats up - if you're not on Europa.

@@OwnerOfTheCosmos I'm just not doing something right. I have killed off my potato and tomato seeds because they are "growing well toward fruiting" nothing changes and then "they are growing poorly" then well then moderately then dead.

@OwnerOfTheCosmos 9 ай бұрын
@@sarumitai Damn, I forgot to mention the Plant Analyzer Cartridge for your Tablet. Did you use that one yet? It will tell you exactly what's wrong with your plants. If it's related to illumination stress, here's how that works: Too long in the light = darkness deficient. Too short in the light = light deficient. (There's tolerance, so you don't have to hit the exact threshold.) Any one of these deficiencies will cause illumination stress to go up. The higher it is, the worse the plant grows. I think it can even kill the plants. If you remove the factor that causes the stress (You have to give it ~30 seconds to actually show up, plants are not appliances.), the stress will no longer go up but will start to go down, but the problem is only gone once the stress is gone. A little stress, though, is not relevant.

I can't get my head around how the advanced airlock is working. Why is there a vent from outside?
@OwnerOfTheCosmos
@OwnerOfTheCosmos 8 ай бұрын
It's very simple. Let's say you're on Mars - which has atmosphere. You don't want that in your room, you want your own atmosphere in there. Now you walk outwards through the airlock. The doors are now all closed. - What should happen next? Outdoor opens = you lose station atmo, so you want to pump that back into your base. - And what's with the opposite direction? Doors are closed, Mars atmo in airlock. - You can't pump that into your base, so where should it go?
@Lee_Hall
@Lee_Hall 8 ай бұрын
Ah that makes sense. I was thinking on the moon there is no atmosphere so would make no difference if you just sucked everything out of the airlock before opening the outer door. But like you say on Mars there is an atmosphere so want to balance the airlock with whats outside.
@OwnerOfTheCosmos
@OwnerOfTheCosmos 8 ай бұрын
Ye, and additionally, the Advanced Airlock has a valuable feature the simple Airlock does not: You can define the target pressure for repressurization (which I always set to 0 so far). The default for the simple one is ~100 kPa, so if your base has less than that, you have to manually abort the repressurization cycle. And have fun trying to do that when you're trying to cycle the airlock while not being in it yourself.
