Okay, so I'm going to direct the question directly to pastor Mark and hope that he actually answers it: my small group leader is a stay-at-home dad and his wife is a full-time educator. He's a handyman as well, and he takes care of his children. They're very young. So is this dynamic fitting with what you're trying to say in the title of this clip? I hope not.

I agree that work is a good thing that we should pursue. However, to state that one is "not a real man when he does not work" is way too oversimplified at best and extremely painful and short-sighted at worst. I myself have always been working, but because of chronic illness I have not been able to do for the last year. The mental challenge is overwhelming at times. Thankfully, my identity and worth is in Jesus Christ, and not in what I do. God bless

For thousands of years, men worked from their homes, and god took them seriously. They did not work for money, they worked to provide food, shelter, and security for their families - many lived their entire lives within a short distance from where they were born, and never held "money". god took them seriously. You, God does not take seriously at all.

@@Slugnworm do you actually tell your wife staying home with the kids is not work? If so you’re the one who’s tripping and undermining your wife. Staying home with kids is by far the hardest job I’ve had as a woman and of course I feel blessed that financially we are able to keep me home with them. But sheesh there are days going to back to work full time would be easier aka less stressful mentally & emotionally and your house wouldn’t be a constant disaster as no one would be home most of the day! I worked hard with good work ethic from 16-35 years old in restaurants, bring a hairstylist and the last 13 years in corporate banking & real estate title company. After being home for 3 years with the littles I’d definitely say my job THAT PAID ME was absolutely easier (my kids went to day care till they were 4 & 2). Now I work harder everyday rarely sitting down, I’m more mentally drained and stressed and I do it for no $ … but it’s absolutely worth it to raise them for the Lord.

I run a couple of businesses and spend a lot of time caring for and looking after my three children under five. Looking after my children is work and very fulfilling work at that. A provocative video titled to engage. Beta males? I don’t remember that term in the Bible. Beta meaning subordinate to others. Philippians talks about considering others better than yourself. This is drama and engagement over love. Gifting and not godliness. True he’s a gifted guy. Love your wife as Christ loved the church. Don’t tell your wife looking after your children is not work, that’s really sad and I pray that God shows you his heart. It is an honour to be at home. It is also your honour to be earning money. The definition of work is not if it’s paid or not. ❤. Thanks all for sharing.

I was lucky to been raise in a home with a God fearing Mom they gave me Godly love . my father could careless about our spiritual life but my mom was a rock ! 🪨 main point is don't let money control the way you parent focus on the spiritual things and trusure the moments (time is more valuable than money ) I would pay all the money in the world to relive the moments with my babies . 👶

5:18 that is the definition of what he himself does. He pontificates and puts on a show for his audience. He doesnt have another job, this has been his career for decades. Plus to be honest it doesnt seem like he spends the time at home reading the bible since almost every quote he uses is misconstrued (or he just cherry picks what fits his ideas). My father was a stay at home dad for me because my mother wasn’t supposed to have me otherwise she’d be crippled and disabled. She chose my life and suffered immediately and became crippled, deformed and ultimately my dad was her only care giver. The worse she got the more she relied on him. They both died of heart attacks. I can’t imagine why. So- this preacher needs to think before he acts as if he knows the dynamics. My father raised me so dang good- teachers hated him for the time he’d spend with me. Teaching me and preparing me for school and LIFE. HE ALSO had to be the one to raise me how to be a wife and mother one day and he’s ALSO the only one who raised me on the word of God and never gave up on me and he lived long enough to witness and enjoy my salvation for 2 years and he passed.

Someone need to do it so might as well be the one whose salary is lesser at that moment in time. Men contribute hugely to the household. My husband renovated the entire house, fixes plumbing, electrical, appliances, broken doors, gates, garden, etc, and he cooks. But his real worth is the heart and love he has for our four daughters and the time he spends with us instead of going out for beers with his buddies! Everyone should aspire to be like my husband! ❤

I was a stay at home dad for 24 years while my wife worked a day job. Reason? She was made to work as a kid amd i wasn't. I knew how to take care of a home AND do all the things my carpenter dad did. So i played both roles at home and worked hard at it. But... After 28 years of marriage i finally figured out why my marriage always had problems. It was because of the role reversal. It made her too hard and me too soft. When we switched to proper roles it fixed everything. So i agree with this video. Men should be providers and women keepers of the home and children. If society had always been that way we wouldnt be seeing so much evil being promoted today.

I was talking to some Christian counselors, and they were telling how many Christian men they are treating because of things arrogant pastors say to hurt people. I will say again that pastor Driscoll is obsessed with this topic. When Jimmy Swagart was involved with a prostitute, he was preaching often about being faithful. There is a theory that preachers preach to themselves about things they struggle with.

Wow, yes, you say a lot here. I am still concerned about Driscoll. He seems to like to belittle as a modus operandi. I do understand that there are times when men need to step it up and be men. We would all admit that about ourselves at certain times, no doubt. But Driscoll seems to want to belittle and shame in an almost fixated way. What is he like behind closed doors if he is like this from the pulpit? Has he not changed from his time in Seattle? Maybe not. I think as Christian men we have to stay careful and discerning with Mark Driscoll. We may see a repeat of all the events that happened in Seattle. I look after and support my family in many other ways. I have followed you from 2007. Despite some of your shortcomings I did not judge you. But it is particularly damning words from your mouth that misrepresent the truth. It is times like this that your brain should of dwelt and prayed on this topic a little longer before your tongue spoke, it does not fully show God breathed and inspired doctrine. It is simple times a shepherd of a flock will see the sheep bolt through the hole in the fence. Please slow your roll and give more time to God given words of encouragement then what appears to be you losing it with society. It is the 'old man syndrome'. I can't quite keep up with the ferocious and quick uploading of all your works. But I will pray for you as you like me are merely man and I pray you don't end up in a situation where it is only your spouse being the worker. It would humble you to the point that sometimes your pain and suffering tells your body, hey, let's take a quick exit stage right to be with the lord. Mark is addressing a generation of men who are CAPABLE of working but would rather NOT and instead let their wives be the bread winner. It’s men who willfully put the burden to provide on the wife when the man HAS the ability to carry it. Why? Because God created the man to provide and work. I work from home full time, and have for 12 years come this June... and I am one of the hardest working people I know. I operate two businesses and organized my company structures so that I don't need to commute. I guess if I had kids, I'd be a worthless according to this. Work doesn't have to be getting up at the crack of dawn, leaving your home, and driving out to a construction site, or to a factory, or to farm, or driving from site to site 1,000 miles a week, staying in hotels during the week and driving home for the weekend because you're on a high rise running cable, or standing post protecting a building, or bouncing for an Arena. All of which I've done, and more. The Protestant work ethic is highly, highly productive, and it became the foundation for the country's economic system, and it changed our education system to produce workers and employees out of the masses. Even business management or business administration degrees don't teach you how to start a business - just how to manage one. When I wanted to start a business, you know what I had to do? I had to basically pimp out my skills to millionaires for free while I learned from them, and after that it took me three years before my business was profitable. I love the Lord Jesus Christ with all of my heart, and I appreciate that he was a carpenter's son. And I love pastor Mark. But I learned that work isn't just physical labor, nor does it only mean a traditional job. Afer the 08/09 crash? I couldn't find work on labor day. I was out of work for 18 months. So I did what I had to do, and by the grace of God, in 2012 I was able to make enough money that nobody had to help me with my bills. And I've been doing that ever since. I'm a homeowner now, hopefully will find a good woman, have some kids. I'll provde and protect. As long as the money is legal and ethical, I don't care where my money comes from. I'll do whatever I have to do to provide.

hmm, I think working hard to raise children as a widower is a virtuous thing. If you do your best and you pray and are lead by the Spirit, then I don't see any sin in that. I think if you're doing your best it shouldn't bother you. If you feel that you weren't doing your best then maybe it should bother you. So only you and God can determine that with prayer and reading the scripture. Good luck brother.

I understand Mark's perspective and acknowledge that there may be "stay-at-home dads" who fit the description he is criticizing. However, it is important to note that not all of them fall into that category. For instance, there are individuals who are unable to work due to legitimate medical reasons but still actively contribute to household upkeep and their families. Among this group, we can include tradesmen who have expended their physical capabilities through hard work. This situation resembles the tendency to make sweeping criticisms about the homeless. Often, people assume that all homeless people are mentally ill or drug addicts, implying that if they were to clean up their act, they could obtain stable employment and housing, making their existence worthwhile. We call these the "visible homeless," and indeed they do exist. However, it is crucial to recognize the "invisible homeless" as well who have, through no fault of their own, ended up on the streets. They do not engage in substance abuse and some even hold full-time jobs, if they are fortunate enough to be employed. Nonetheless, they face countless obstacles that hinder their ability to escape their predicament, which is not a case of "creation rising up in rebellion against them." Like for instance I'm a rideshare driver and I have heard him not once but twice insult us and say that we're not doing a real job. Tell that to the many people who I've picked up that would have been in a car under the influence otherwise. He's starting to remind me of this one pastor who told me that my mother didn't love me and that she wanted to abandon me. And when confronted about it later said he didn't do a thing wrong.

I work harder now than I ever did. And here you are telling me God thinks I’m a joke and I’m some beta male because of what I do for my family. You know not of what you speak. I honestly have great gratitude to all the stay at home moms that did this mess for centuries before I came on the scene. Currently my wife and I work full time but we just had our first child, and we're trying to decide the best course of action when he starts schooling since she makes over double what I do while working from home. So, what is better? 1: Have my children be raised by public school teachers and daycare workers who will fill their heads with their worldly principles because no one stays at home? 2: Have my wife quit her job that pays over double what mine does and hope that I eventually work my way up to provide the standard of living her job could? 3: I handle the homeschooling, cooking, cleaning, daily spiritual enrichment etc while my wife makes $70K from the couch, giving my children lives where they are with both parents as much as possible and making memories daily? My father worked 60-80 hrs a week, and now his body is failing and he very well may not see all his grandchildren be born. Taking care of numerous children plus a house is a full time job unless you send them to public school and daycare and waste a ton of the money you'd earn by both working, plus increases the likelihood my children fall away from faith. But hey, if literalist interpretation is more important than making sure the next generation is raised right, go right ahead.

@@HalleluYAH-b5d no it isn't. The very title of the video is stay at home dads. Raising children is a job. And sometimes a woman might be in a better position to bring home more money than the husband. There is not and should not be anything wrong with this. Sometimes it's for a season, sometimes it's long term. But if both parties are doing what is best for their family then who are we to judge? Both husband and wife are providing something. And it's not like it was just twenty or thirty years ago when many families could raise their kids on one income. So if they are able to make that happen and someone can spend time with the children that isn't a stranger then I say more power to them. This clearly isn't about someone just free loading. It takes a lot of work to raise children and maintain a house and nothing in th Bible says it is a woman's job to stay at home while a man goes out and works. Let's not forget the Proverns 31 woman 10 [a]A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. 11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. 12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. 13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. 14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. 15 She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. 16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. 18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.

Try working manual labor 50 hours a week in the elements or some corporate job with tons of massive stress: reports, long hours, travel, reports, phone calls, 125 emails a day, a jerk boss, a sales goal, a sales funnel to fill. Or try being a financial advisor, constantly trying to get new clients, research, presentations, stress of watching the markets and determining an investment strategy for people. That’s work. @@FerallHog Parenting is still WORK, though. People work as nannies which involves cleaning houses and taking care of a couple of children there. For some reason that counts as a job but it doesn't if you're a parent doing that same stuff? That's just bad logic. You're setting the threshold for what constitutes work at an arbitrary level based on the most stressful of jobs. Those aren't the only jobs in existence, you know. Some people work office jobs that don't involve much of what you'd call "work" or "stress", but that's still a job. Parenting can be more stressful than those jobs, but for some reason it's not work? All of the things you're suggesting about parenting like it not being stressful not only isn't true of parenting but actually apply to certain other things you would recognize as jobs. Went to welding school young, been doing great in my career, worked all the way up to doing 12 hour days 7 days a week, now I build nuclear submarines and have been clearing 6 figures for some time.. well while making that, I have gotten my family almost debt free, paid out of pocket for most of my wife’s education and given the wife and kids a beautiful house. We now have young kids approaching school age as she is approaching finishing her masters. We have a small farm, planing to make it much bigger and then to homeschool the kids via standard school teaching and farm work and I’ll teach the kids to work on tractors, take care of animals, do math. Etc etc. we DONT want them in the school system.. however my wife will be making SUBSTANTIALLY more than me after college even at my above average salary now. Would it be wrong to still work on the farm, raise my kids, when it has nothing to do with my lack of work ethic. Mathematically it makes more sense for her to be the “bread winner”. But imm conflicted about my role as the man of the house.

How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.”

Title is a big miss. I'm a stay at home dad who also works from home. I can agree with the general sentiment of this video. Men need purpose beyond family.

you are doing a decent job as pastor, BUT - we cant say God doesnt take them seriously. Most can or cannot be clowns. Not upto us to say who God does or doesn't take seriously. But yes, men are meant to serve, to work (you better build the house and work harder than the mom, rather than just sweeping the floor) Bring a balance of lion and lamb, heart and brain.

If you can't tell a SAHM that she doesn't do real work, you can't tell a SAHD that he isn't working. In todays world a woman can sometimes have the higher earning potential.

Does this apply to Men who have worked, made enough to retire and focus full time on his family? Define work??? Is looking after a family not considered work? Or should a man keep working to make more and more money and have less time with his family. A FAMILY MAN is a REAL MAN. A REAL Man is born to protect and serve and help. If we spend more time working to make more and more, then we run the risk have ending up with a zero. Either family, money or health. REPENT...it is written

GOD just expects someone to be physically active, like if you did your own garden and farm chores, your working hard, obviously for a person to be lazy and do no chores or any work at all, that is a sin!

Bro what? I am team Mark, but dang this sermon ain’t it, bro. If a man is a dead beat playing video games and neglecting his responsibilities…then yes, he’s worthless. Stay at home fathers…that’s hard. I’m a full time SAH mom and work part time…there are some days I would rather be at work than home 😂

I got paid to take naps while being a contractor for the DOE at one of their sites. We all did, worst job ever then the one I currently have. My current job is not a hard job and beautifully busy work. Problem is listening to the bosses always whine like women, even thou our site is the best in the country for two years in a row. Im seeking an out.

Mark 1. You are implying that those who stay at home to take care of a home and children....do not work. Nothing could be further from the truth. 2. I know families who made the choice for the dad to stay home with the kids because the mother had a higher income and better insurance. 3. Not sure God would appreciate you calling His children clowns because you assume they are not working.

"Then to Adam He said, ......“Cursed is the ground for your sake; in TOIL you shall eat of it ALL the days of your life." ~ Genesis 3:17 Retirement is not biblical. Able-bodied men NOT working are NOT in right standing with God. This includes the officers/priesthood/levites most of the time.

Honest question: When was there ever Work in our lifetime before this Curse? It appears the curse he’s referring to is Adam & Eve (Genesis). It appears he’s asking the audience a question we can’t answer.

Nowhere in the Bible is the concept of a man being a stay at home Dad condemned or looked down on. Stay at home Dads do work inside the home. Yes, we are made to work and work is important.

I agree with what you're saying. In fact I don't even like a church that the pastor doesn't have a full-time job through the week. My pastor runs a welding crew Monday through Friday and then preaches on Sunday.

Every pastor should have a full time job, a full time ministry, and be 100% above reproach 100% of the time. If he’s not, he’s not a real pastor, he’s a fake and God won’t take him seriously.
