Joe's back with a new iteration of his Stay or Go series, and this week it's all about Chelsea & Graham Potter. The Blues suffered a 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge last night to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, with their questionable squad building and below par players highlighted despite a decent performance from Potter's side.

The reason Badiashile was given a 7.5 year deal is nothing to do with the player quality. It's so they can amortize his fee out over a much longer time frame and therefore not infringe on their other spending. They were going after Enzo as well, might go after Mudryk now. They've spent so much they need to think about FFP and doing things like giving out super long contracts helps them do it.

They are giving out such long contracts to help with reaching FFP regulations. The transfer fee is immortalised over the length of the contract. Meaning transfer fee divided by the contract length is the yearly total outgoing

You could even include Kovacic in that sell group, except that then you are needing a whole new midfield. Fernandez is too much at £100 mill though. Need a CDM and no8. Bellingham? Rice? Mcallister? Caciedo? My instinct would be to get the World class CDM, and see if Gallagher and Zakaria can work with him. Also, can Ampadu be James understudy at RWB?

Agree with that squad. The midfielders we have in jorginho and kante are well past their best now. Got to spend big on that midfield. Rice and Fernandez must buys to get us back to where we need to be. Also need a back up at RB/RWB and a goal scorer. The RWB slot is disastrous this season with James injured. The back 3 formation was Potter's favoured formation at Brighton and we have been unable to use it due to the amount of injuries we have had. Again why I think Potter deserves time.

Aubameyang was always a short term signing. I agree with most of these, but even though he's been going through some bad form, I'd keep Mendy. Hall and Zakaria as well. He's been impressive. Spot on with saying Kovacic is our best midfielder. Chukwuemeka should definitely be playing more. Hudson-Odoi is a tough one. I always felt like he never really got given enough of a chance and that's why he's on loan I guess, but like you said, with others wingers coming in, (Mudyrk has since joined since you uploaded this) it might be for the best that we sell him. You're right about Havertz. There's definitely a player in there, but maybe he needs more time to unlock his full potential. Plenty of work to be done over the summer window.

I think Chelsea have something fundamentally wrong with them since abromovich left as owner. Alot of lazy players on big wages not showing much for the club. if you don't perform or weren't motivated for Chelsea you were not getting played and getting replaced immediately under an unforgiving regime. Transfer wise Chelsea have been so poor, be it plagued with injury but letting the midfield become that barron is unforgivable. Will take another 2 years to get anything that looks like a team.

Agree with a lot of your choices but I would keep Zakaria if possible and I would also keep Hall and Ampadu. Potter imo looks to be going 4231 and playing two CDM's there who can also pass maybe the key. Zakaria is one but I think Ampadu could do well there if given the chance. I'm on the fence with Kovacic and Mount, I rate both players but both are putting in some dodgy performances although it isn't all their fault. There might even be a case for keeping Baka for a backup but I can see him going if an offer came in.

Proper review and understanding of our issues. My changes would be: Buy Zakaria he's a steal and has shown some high quality; keep Hudson Odoi we need backup wingers, splash some money to bring in a proper goal scoring right winger, play nkunku/havertz at ST/CF in a deep lying role (Havertz really needs the team to pick one position for him and let him work), and bring in Declan Rice to allow the rest of the midfielders to press higher. Half our issue on attack is we barely occupy the enemy half and take a counter-attack approach as deployed by most bottom half premier league teams.

I can't but agree more with you over every single one of them. Zakaria seems decent, but we should be done with decent players now as a club and looking at great players. I'd sell Koulibally though, even if it means cutting losses or loaning him out to any club that can share in paying his salaries. Unfortunately, Tuchel had so many transfers that I disagreed with and totally criticized. We're only now seeing the effect. Of course Fofana in the CB is still there and with Joao Felix in, I'm waiting to see how we can tap the talents of Felix, Sterling, Mount and Havertz especially as we're still in the hunt for a formidable goal scorer.

Zakaria is a keep but aside from here spot on. Some of the sells would be so exciting at other clubs, could see Hudson Odoi kill it at Newcastle. Loftus Cheek solves problems for literally any midfield below top 6 and even some of the teams in it. Ampadu still feels like a player who could be great but he just hasn't been managed correctly, Villa or Wolves with Emery or Lopetegui could turn him into the player he always should've been.

The seven+ year contracts are to do with FFP and spreading out the actual finances over time allowing Chelsea to make such crazy expensive signings while also effectively negating FFP, the FA & UEFA are already making rules against this which will come into play next season. Just a way to allow Boehly (who effectively makes the signings anyways) to spend ridiculous amounts with little to no repercussions

Looks like kante will be staying as chelsea are ready to offer him a new deal, and chelsea fans would like him to stay because of the love for him. Colwill is getting that LCB spot over koulibaly next season. It will be a question of healthy competition between colwill and badiashille. Chelsea are ready to offer him an improved contract and he's very highly rated by everyone at the club. Hall is a CM and not a natural LB. I'd keep him personally. And one player you forgot to include is ian maatsen (at burnley). He's been the standout LB in the championship.

What I make… too many years of mismanagement and not understanding how teams work. Every team I have played on has succeeded more not when it was all the top guys on it, but all the guys who love spending time with each other and on the pitch. That is what chelsea needs to look for, a team, not players. Give them time, let them learn from each other, let them connect. Bring in young guys who love the game. That’s how you bring home silverware. And we will. Just trust the process and the young guys.

putting zakaria in 'contract exit' is the biggest disgrace, he is great definsive and good at turning defense into act at only costing probably 30m he wld be great cheap option at only 26yrs old

Being from the USA, I’m obviously a bit biased when it comes to Pulisic, but I think he should stay. I think he was good under Lampard and showing his quality, but then Tuchel came in and pushed him to the bench or played him out of position in cameos. Ziyech could be a world beater if they played him in his comfort zone on the right wing and allowed him to cut inside with that beautiful left foot of his. But we can all agree that Jorginho needs to go. He doesn’t offer anything other than a lateral or back pass and his pressing/defensive actions are poor, yet he’s always in the team
